QUOTE(azimlatip @ Jul 20 2011, 07:31 PM) Eh? I don't have any problems using B137. Lol. But now I'm flashing to void. #draco with franco's 2nd kernel.. Wanna try So fast. HahaTry locking your phone. Then when the screen is off, press the power button. Mine takes about a second or so before I can see the time |

Review of our X5 from The Star
QUOTE The Huawei Ideos X5 is an Android smartphone that has a lot to offer for a small price tag. HUAWEI may not be one of the brands that immediately comes to your mind when you think of getting an Android smartphone. The Ideos X5, however, may change that because it's packed with attractive features and is a lot cheaper than other Android phones. The X5 is entirely black which gives the smartphone a chic look-and-feel. The first thing you notice about the phone is the large 3.8in screen which dominates the front. The bright and sharp screen has a resolution of 480 x 800-pixels and is great for viewing photos and watching videos. I really enjoyed watching YouTube videos, for instance, while on the go. Eye-catching features The review unit runs on Android 2.2.1 which is a tad old because most new smartphones already ship with version 2.3. The later version has a new user interface, better power management, improved copy-paste function and more. Anyway, an update to version 2.3 is expected to be available from the company's website in the future. If you are new to the Android operating system, it may take awhile to adapt to the user interface. Before long I was loving the multiple homescreens and widgets, and was downloading apps from the Android Market. The Android Market has a lot to offer - it now has tons of free and paid applications. You can even download Angry Birds for free but it is ad-supported. The X5 comes with 4GB memory and a microSD card slot, so you will not be short of space to store your apps. However, you'll have to remove the back casing to access the microSD slot which can be a bit of a hassle. Decent camera The X5 has a 5-megapixel camera which is great for casual photo taking and video recording. It has all the standard functions such as zoom, white balance and exposure. The camera works best when there is good lighting. It has a flash but it's best used as a last resort as the results can be iffy. It's too bad that the X5 doesn't have a dedicated camera button and instead you have to use the on-screen button to capture your shots. This can be a hassle especially if you are used to having a dedicated button. The other problem is that the camera is a tad slow and it takes a moment before it captures a shot. This is rather annoying because you can miss important moments. It is perfectly all right if you are shooting a still object but for action shots you are better off using a better camera. For video recording, you can adjust the quality and use colour effects such as sepia, negative, and solarise which can be fun. The colour effects can also be used for still images but it's rather odd that the setting for it is only available on the video recording screen. Most Android smartphones have a 1GHz or faster processor but the X5 only has an 800MHz processor. The slower speed, however, did not hamper the user experience. Scrolling through the contact list, surfing the Web and even downloading apps was a breeze. Definitely no complaints here. The X5 works okay as a phone. The voice quality for calls was satisfactory and it was easy to make and receive calls but typing text messages was frustrating. The phone does not recognise taps accurately - I needed to repeatedly tap the same letter to get it right. Typing text messages can take annoyingly longer because of this. The X5, which is powered by a 1,500mAh lithium polymer battery, can last an entire day on a single charge which isn't too bad. Conclusion The Huawei Ideos X5 is designed with the budget conscious user in mind. It may not have the fastest processor or a whopping amount of memory but it still works fine. If you are new to the Android OS and don't want to invest in a high-end phone then the X5 is a good start because it has all the important features. Overall, if you always wanted an Android smartphone at an affordable price, the Huawei Ideos X5 is worth checking out. Pros: Affordable; 4GB memory; decent 5-megapixels camera. Cons: No dedicated camera button; microSD slot hidden under back casing. IDEOS X5 (Huawei) Android smartphone NETWORK: GSM 850/900/1800/1900, HSDPA 900/2100 OPERATING SYSTEM: Android 2.2.1 DISPLAY: 3.8in touchscreen (480 x 800-pixels) CAMERA: 5-megapixels CONNECTIVITY: Bluetooth, WiFi, microUSB MEMORY: 4GB EXPANSION SLOT: MicroSD (expandable up to 32GB) STANDBY/TALK TIME: 380 hours/7 hours OTHER FEATURES: A-GPS, digital compass, 3.5mm audio jack, SRS professional audio, 720p HD video recording DIMENSIONS (W x D x H): 62 x 120 x 11.6mm WEIGHT: 130g PRICE: RM899 RATING: 3.5 |
