QUOTE(Phonzy @ Jul 17 2011, 02:39 AM) hey evohahn, seems like u are reading lots of tie-ins to flashpoint. any to recommend? can't afford to get all tie ins Many? No lah. I only bought two so far based on recommendation on the net. I'm buying Batman Dark Knight of Vengeance & Deadman and the Flying Grayson - both are Batman related title. I'm searching hi and lo for Project Superman, but havent been able to find a copy.My recommendation - Batman Dark Knight - the story is not tied to the main Flashpoint story, you can enjoy the story without reading the Flashpoint story. |

QUOTE(eric.tangps @ Jul 14 2011, 02:59 PM) You need more people for what?I haven't bought single issues since I came to Malaysia in 2003, they are hard to find and the price is ridiculous. It's a comparison thing, with Diamond delivering direct to the UK you don't actually pay cover price in the shop. I used to get 38% discount, so a $2.99 comic was $1.80 or RM5.40, so when I saw RM12-14 for the same thing I recoiled in horror. The comics companies will still get my business and I'll read them but at $1.99 on the 4 week delay price from DC, it'll be half the price for the same book. I think values of goods get stuck in your head, Malaysians go to the UK and are horrified at seeing a menu asking £15 for a noodle dish wheh they can get it for RM5 here, I come here and am amazed that people pay twice the real value of the car for a BMW. If you gave me a million ringitt win on the lottery I wouldn't buy one, they aren't worth that much. |

QUOTE(Mr Jones @ Jul 18 2011, 01:41 AM) You need more people for what? He meant less people frequenting to LCS. In regards to price, pre-1999 we can get comics for less than RM10 back then (USD1 ~ RM2.50). When the currency speculators attack this region, the government decided to peg the ringgit - USD 1 to RM3.80. When this happened, the comics price doubled - and as a student back then, i had to give up the hobby. You really cant compare UK pounds to US Dollar / UK pounds to RM since the pounds has always have a higher value than the US Dollar. I have sympathies but I haven't ever shopped at an LCS in Malaysia, I bought trades instead. I do really hope they survive but in the end I'm more interested in reading than collecting. I don't want to download illegally as that would harm the comic being made but if I pay for them I want the best price I can. So sorry to Eric but I was lost a long time back. and because of this, the number of comics shop dwindled in KL especially. Added on July 18, 2011, 4:33 pmUpdated 1st page with Image's October solicits. I did hear that DC are launching a retailer programme that would mean if your LCS sets up a website with a link to Comixology's DC Store they will get 30% of the profit, if that applies to Malaysian retailers then I'd love to do that and support them for the first time. You may want to ask your LCS owner to look into it. On comparing pounds and dollars and RM, yes you can. I used a currency converter so the comparisons are accurate. The value of a currency doesn't relate to how wealthy people are, it adjusts to that by paying you less or more of that currency. The average UK salary is £23k pa, the US one is $38k. If you run it through XE.com you'll see that value is almost exactly the same. So a $2.99 comic is worth £1.86 but the real cost is the same. In real value a US$3 comic here selling at RM12 costs $4, which is nobody's fault, the demand isn't big enough for direct dist. but it's very expensive. I often hear people say "oh UK earns 5 times and US earns 3 times" but it doesn't work like that and I don't know why it's become common. In fact in Malaysia the average annual salary is around RM48k pa (4k a month) which is just under half the US and US figure, not one fifth or one third. Updated first page with DC's October solicits and the DCnU Superman is now an orphan (no more Ma & Pa Kent) and single! Looks like its 'Brand New Day' Superman! LOL |

Maybe they find that BND Spidey is charting sales? Or more potential? Anyway maybe a romance with Wonder Woman is in the pipeline? We do know that Lois and Supes is totally impossible due to his powers.
So long ago, comics cost RM2-50 per book. |

QUOTE(evoHahn @ Jul 19 2011, 10:51 AM) Oh yes, I'm talking buying them only, comics don't have a big enough audience they can brush off piracy like the big film studios. Once it gets to September I'll be getting a few of the new DC titles monthly from Comixology. At the moment I'm thinking of getting: Justice League Dark Stormwatch Action Comics Demon Knights Swamp Thing Resurrection Man Tempted by Wonder Woman and Animal Man too, will wait and see the reviews on those. I'm someone who buys for the writer more than anything so it doesn't matter to me these aren't the most famous characters. |
