So I guess if I was to buy a flash, a lower end Nikon over a higher end third party eg. a SB-700 over a 866Di? They are around the same price aren't they....
*
lower end? do u wanna know what flash my frens using now? his old SB600. even i also use sb600. u can ask people who using SB800 or SB400 for ages. how it performs? my point is to say that nikon QC is better than nissin. last time, i also use tamron 1750 and end up back to kit lens. funny aite?

Sorry, noob here. I guess what I meant was a not-top-end Nikon over a top of the range Nissin. I guess it's like the other sifus say lorr, third party will always be third party.  smile.gif
*
we all learning and sharing here. no noobies no sifu here. i just give some example of faulty di866. since my SB600 is younger than my SB900 so i cant say much. plus i love sb900 over sb600 and i quite regret didnt get 2nd sb900 over new sb600.

i tried SB700 and di866 both. what i can say
di866 win over power. there is mini flash infront (or whatever name it is) to fill in at the adequate amount. handles ok, quite friendly. i get mad with the moving screen like iphone one (bile portrait, dia portrait, bila landscape dia landscape) coz it burden me to read to details yeah i always use manual mode. the bulb a bit bluish color that kinda help me for WB under yellow light. no overheat issue on this flash. just burst all the way. (max i use is 1/4) color LCD display. i look it more like Game consol display. i dont know others like it or not tongue.gif

SB700
much much much lighter than mighty SB900. feel comfy even without baterry grip (i use D90) solid build. not like Di866 feel plastic even sb600 also abit plastic IMO. the power just enuff for normal range. bounce perfectly and can twist like SB900 (reason why i hate SB600) flash seem to be softer then Di866. di866 looks like setepek kena kat muka or in other words, looks flats (or i dont know how to use di866) yeah this unit also dont have any overheat issue like sb900. normal LCD with green backlight.

i think that my review over both. if i were at ur seat, i definately go for SB700. as SB700 work nicely. i wont save up more for another sb900 as the matter of size. doing wedding job, holding SB900 reli hurt my hands biggrin.gif

That's y I wonder how ppl go overheat with the SB900, I always see those ppl, point the flash 90deg up in the air, where the ceiling is 5 floors up, or even outdoors without ceiling, what's the point doing that? Some act pro, point the the back where there's no wall to bounce even, I am laughing like mad when seeing those act pro try to be different ppl....
*
they bounce to the sky and hoping cloud will bounce the flash nicely

Hye everyone, just wanna ask a question.
What does spot metering do actually? And how can I use it? I'm using D90 btw. Thanks.
*
less consider about the background, more focus on the tiny spot of the focus point

You'll be thankful to SB-900 when you meet with high ceiling, for example a big ballroom or hall biggrin.gif

Err.. maybe 200mm f2 is quite an exaggeration. but I believe there is some1 who own it w/o generating any moneh from photography.

how if I say the father of my friend has 5dmII and 7d as the body having 18-135 kit.
17-40L, 70-200L, 24-70L. w/o even able to control his camera well.
victim of sales man in my country. hahaha

*
My brother big boss own d3s with 1424 2470 & 70200 vr2 with shutter count less then 1000. Guess how long he own it? 1 year already and yes he using Auto all the way. He bought jz becoz his frens own it.

You mentioned these for recommendation?
Tamron 17-50 f/2.8
Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 VC
Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 OS
Sigma 17-70 Macro OS

I have not tried any of the above, but I have friends using both the Sigmas mentioned. I have not seen any photo from the Sigma 17-50, but I have seen the Sigma 17-70 which is quite soft. Somehow, I personally felt that Nikkor 18-105 kit can do better than that when equipped with flash.

I'm earning from photography but not very much at the moment as I'm still green. I'm opting to upgrade to a better lens as compared with the kit. I did in fact considering the 24-70, however to move for that I'll lose some on wide coverage which is very important especially in tight area. I wouldn't be able to fund myself to move into both 24-70 and FX at the same time, which therefore I'm considering the Nikkor 17-50 f/2.8 and to hang with it longer before FX a year later or so.

The best price I managed to seek for the Nikkor 17-50 f/2.8 M'sia unit is RM3,900.

nikkor 1755 laaa...

my frens selling cheap 2470 sigma.

i reli love my 1870 compare to 1750 vc or 18105 tongue.gif

Have not tested the lens personally yet despite the good ratings.

Anyway, why it's named as DX King? Due to its weight and size?
*
ive tried the non HSM one. slow motor. quite sharp. super heavy~!
here my friends FB link if u interested. reason of selling, already jumping ship
http://www.facebook.com/MikeDukemaneTiadaHaluan

why its DX king? claim that non of other DX lens can challenge its sharpness. for that range la. plus the crispy colors~!

Wide Angle for portrait give different "effect" or "perspective", it may make your subject look fat if you shoot close.

With VR, you can shoot at lower shutter speed, but you need to let the VR to stabilize first; BUT then, you need to becareful of slow shutter speed with moving subject, you will get blur shots due to movements of the subject.
