I hardly written any check before & always have a bit of doubt when writing the check. I got a question before I fill up this one... it might sounds simple & stupid but pls just confirm for me.. tongue.gif

Example I want to open a check of Rm 3362.94

In Alphabet it is written like this: Three thousand three hundred sixty two ringgit & ninety four cent only.

Is this correct? Those in bold are part i have a bit of doubt... Thanks

Actually, you don't need the "ringgit"
The term ringgit is pre-printed in front.

Can write as
Three thousand three hundred sixty two & cents ninety four only.

There is no fixed rule, it served as to verify the number your write.

Yup

As long as the "zero" word matches the 0 digit instead of 6, it would go thru...

I normally leave out ringgit and sen.

I will write as THREE THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED SIXTY TWO AND NINETY FOUR ONLY. Never had a problem with banks. If I leave out AND, bank sure call up one.

Now, already have cheque writing machine... too lazy to spell now. Just punch and wait.

Next time, try fourties, see it can be cleared or not.. laugh.gif
Nowadays, lot of spelling error occurred around, from advertisement to even official promoting brochure.
No surprise, there are people don't know whether it is fourty or forty.

As said, it served as verify, some banks are more strict, some banks are more lenient, as long it has its meaning aka verify the number on the amount is right, they let it through.

don't worry so much TS. no need to be 100% grammar correct. bank will only reject if you obviously screw up (i.e. you miss a number or something). all the "dan" and "ringgit" and all the other filler words is OK to miss one.

that one is different case. payee name in different color pen is a red flag for potential fraud.

Even if the handwriting is different for the payee and the amount part, the cheque will not clear (for HSBC)

That makes perfect sense to me. People normally write the entire cheque in one go. Name, date, amount, amount, sign. It takes all of 20 seconds.

If the cheque looks like it has been altered, or different parts have been filled up by different people, it's a sign of possible fraud.
