Means marimo can actually perform photosynthesis using our fluorescent light tubes? Is it scientifically possible since plants cant do photosynthesis if kept indoors?
*
in fact not only marimo will perform photosynthesis via fluorescent light smile.gif All plants will do! Photosynthesis uses the energy from light (scientifically named as Photon) and carbon dioxide to produce the plant's fruit + waste (in the form of oxygen)

then how come cant keep live plants indoors 1?  blush.gif  sry not familiar with plant stuffs....
*
you can put live plants indoors but it is not recommended smile.gif this is because the photosynthesis rate for plant is pretty low with fluorescent as light source and therefore the plants will consume the oxygen in ur indoor area (example ur living room) rather than performing photosynthesis effectively, but for marimos, they are different with grounded plant as the demand of light source to perform photosynthesis is very low. Did I clear your doubt or increase? LoL rclxm9.gif

hmm ive been wondering ah.
would normal pipe water affect the growth?
*
I dont think this will affect smile.gif you are using normal pipe water to siram your plant as well right? haha we dont need any anti chlorine for the water as the chlorine only kill fish but not aquatic plant

Yes the dirts come from them is normal.Dont worry about  the color, try to provide them the lowest temp u can so then they will turn back into green  biggrin.gif
What i usually do is during the hot weather i will put 1-2pieces of ice to cool the temp
*
yes, this is good for marimo, another way is you can put your whole bottle into fridge (not the freezer) for 24 hours

so far after i clean mine, only got small small bubbles stick on them. don have dirt sticking on them yet.

mind if i ask where do u keep them? biggrin.gif with ur fish or something like that.
or maybe u wait for advice from leeyung or someone with more experience tongue.gif
*
woops, I am here, show us the photo of dirt perhaps? usually marimo got dirt outside and inside one, for outside dirt, you can gently rub them and roll them to clean the outside dirt and for inside one you have to squeeze the marimo under running pipe water, so that u squeeze out the dirt water and fresh one masuk etc... until you see no more dirt water wakakaka, marimo cute ler, everytime after u clean them then it iwll have bubbles around one

same, now mine also no float & no bubbles ady...why why why???
*
no worries for all, marimo doesnt float and no bubbles didnt mean that it is not healthy, sometimes water level too low also do not make the marimo float, most of the time marimo will in sink condition unless you perform water change and clean the dirt inside marimos. The photosynthesis of marimo do product oxygen but our "eyes" sometime cant view the tiny oxygen bubbles produced by them. as long as the color of marimo is green then it is fine smile.gif relax icon_idea.gif

huh dun cut into half o... they might die:D.... unless you dun wan to keep them already tongue.gif

I wonder how marimo reproduce, leeyung u got the answer?
*
Marimo reproduce themself naturally, when you notice there is a "lump" appears on marimo, then it is the "son" of the marimo. but this is typically happening on the giant marimo smile.gif

8-10mm=0.8-1cm
30-40mm=3-4cm
so freaking small even for giant. from all those posted pic, i thought nano=3-4cm and giant=10-20cm... very deceiving. no wonder everybody keep saying they very cute.

anyway,if i were to use it in a bottle as keychain. will it break/hancur/out of shape?

another question, if i keep 1 "giant" and 2 nano side by side in a bottle(same diameter as 1 litre mineral water, and water height of 10cm). do they get enough water, space to survive or at least float?
sorry for all the stupid questions.

edit:spelling typo.
*
Marimo in size of 3CM considered very large already, btw why deceiving ler? I got put rulers + other object for size comparison ler rolleyes.gif

For example

This is the nano with ruler as benchmark for size
user posted image

You may get to know the size of Giant marimo via the size comparison of the fishes, typical neon tetra at least 1.5cm+-(from head to tail)
user posted image

for the keychain thingy, if you regularly change the water then reshape them when washing, then no problem d.

The water volume you mentioned fine enough for them to survive but hard to see them float smile.gif

Yupe! you can, just the water will have some weird smell after some time

QUOTE(lastlovesong @ May 25 2011, 05:09 PM)
wanna ask... the one which we buy from leeyung is it come from akan lake japan or from different area? cos from what i read in the link given in the first page. only marimo from akan lake will grow into nice sphere shape. marimo from other place wont grow into this shape. is it true?
*
Yes, it is from that origin, the statement claimed that regarding the grow of nice sphere shape is somehow correct, the temperature condition over there catalyst the growth of marimo and therefore they have a better shape but this doesnt mean if you have your marimo over here, it will not grow into a nice shape. You have to pay more effort on them, like regular water change and massage them to roll them in a nice shape, put them into fridge once a month smile.gif

Most the the question asked in some post in fact already answered in this post, recommended to all read through the thread before post any question smile.gif thumbup.gif

thanks leeyung for infos.
