Hi Guys/Gals,

As mentioned its time to look for a pc case. I have something of an old mid atx from the 90's

Looking for a case that is the silent type, with insulation and filters on the fan. The current setup makes it sound like a train during top load.

Trying to look for something like the H2 or the R3 from fractal design; but these arent available.

Hope you gurus n sifus can recommend and suggest something within easy available.

DIY with a budget case also possible for im into DIY arena.

Many thanks icon_question.gif

Silent case ?? Normally only fan make noise . But nowadays most of the fan very low in noise and provide high air flow . Example Artic Cooling fan and CM sickleflow .

can get those dampening mat from garage sales. i would recommend cases with less perforated/mesh area. lian li or silverstone would be nice for a silent build.

as for fans noise. get pwm fans for your hsf. your mobo will control the fan speed. less noise during idle smile.gif

Hi All,

Thanks for the reply for this. Looks like its going to be a long build to the finish.
Done some research into what im looking at, what the end would be a case thats not to overkill on budget and power.
not something to flashy or something to out of this planet.
This would just be a silent pc that runs 5 days on or more in silent mode, helps with reading and doing stuff biggrin.gif

Looked at the fans from CM and AC, looking at the stats and price

CM
xtraflo

RM29

RM55

blade master 120

80mm 800-3000rpm 13-28db 3.12w pwm 10.9-40.8cfm sleeve 40k

120mm 900-1200 13.8db min 1.44w pwm
44.03cfm bbearing 50k hours
80mm 900-2500 12.84db min 1.44w pwm
28.77 bbearing 50k hours

AC
artic f pwm
120mm 400-1500rpm 0.5sone 57-96cfm fluid bearing
RM33
80mm 700-2000rpm 0.3sonne 28-59cfm fluid bearing

artic F pro pwm

RM35
80mm 700-2000rpm 0.3sonne 28-59.5cfm fluid bearing

After factoring price and reliabilty, cause this would be a one time purchase im going with the AC in bulk,
how many i may not know yet till the dinosaur gets a new chasis

Agreed, for cases im looking at the door hinge type for we would be able to fit them dampener mats, am also curious on where
to look for those mesh as dust traps. I rolleyes.gif had an idea of panty hose lol

For the chasis as im on a either R3 or H2 budget out of the box, that is the max i can go, li lian and silverstone comes a little too way ott on the wallet.
Was thinking of getting some generic or equal quality high built to start off.

For the PWM area you have given me some thought of my next area or research, since all the fans included in the build will be pwm based, a controller seems must and nothing too fancy or such. its an interesting thing i never thought off.

Well have to see my updates on this search for a silent machine be satisfying, until then... tally ho mates! rclxm9.gif

hard to get a silent case out of the box. maybe with some sound dampening materials, fan controller, pwm fans, you can have a near silent pc.

pwm pins on mobos are quite limited. you might want to check the mobo before you buy them smile.gif

Interesting one from CM, was looking for these products the H2 or the R3; this certainly adds up to the list to 3.

Looking at how the R3 and H2 is built with top case options and fan controllers inbuilt i would say they should be selling in the range of RM300+/-

With this Silencio 550 is a better premium option for the budget conscious as the these items are omitted. I am expecting this to hit the market in the sub 200 range.

Other notes cases like Antec 183 , the ob600 and cmstorm are way too over my budget and over premium for me imho shocking.gif . It should be compared to the larger XL Define R3 if necessary.

Definitely cant wait for Silencio 550 to appear rclxm9.gif

For the moment have bought some stuff for the built and would be showing you guys/gals later. Just need a good quiet chasis

Stumbled upon an app that has been surprising working to reduce the DB's off my dinosaur rig, called speedfan.
Mind though it might look complex at first, a little tuning does wonders to your rig.
