I am not sure if this is the right place to post. Let me start if none. I have been searching ways to convert sun energy to electricity. All we need :- 1) Solar panel 2) Battery 3) Inverter 4) Most important - PWM Solar Charger Controller Solar panel To convert sunlight to DC voltage Maybe in range 6,12,18,24,48V Battery To store DC generated from panel Inverter To convert DC in battery to AC sine wave PWM Solar charge controller will protect your batteries from being overcharged by your solar panels and it will block any reverse current (from the batteries) as well. -------------------------------------------------------------------- These are all the kits you should have to start a simple DIY solar . Lets roll guys ? |

not PWM , use MPPT .

Yes you are right on the list of equipment needed. You will need deep cycle battery(expensive), Solar charge controller(depends on features, could be expensive), sufficient solar panels, and Inverter if you need AC.

all components can be bought from Jalan Pasar
battery probably cost about RM100+ , same with solar panel make sure you implement stuff like overcharge protection to protect the battery life |

QUOTE(NelsonBoy @ May 21 2011, 05:12 PM) anybody knows 1) Lots of factor, those panels rarely operates and maximum efficiency due to many factor. Also must take into account losses etc. 1) Solar panel 30W , battery 12AH , How long does it takes to fully charges the battery ? 2) For a 100w load, how long can the battery last ? i think these 2 factors are important in determining the battery/ solar capacity and 2) 100W, assuming 12V system, will draw about 8amps. Let's say you are using 60amp/hour battery, and the battery is deep cycle marine type. You could only run it down to about 30% of full capacity, so thats about 42amp/hour. thats leave you 6 hours of operation. But in my experience you should get much less due to voltage drop and your equipment cant function properly. |

42AH
meaning the batt can supply 42amp for 1 hour. after that , drained finish ? |

Good start bro. I am really suprised and dissapointed that Malaysia is sunny whole year round and we have not tap into this free energy and wanted to build a nuclear plant...

QUOTE(NelsonBoy @ May 24 2011, 10:12 AM) ya. in real theory yes. but there is problems.1. voltage drop 2. battery discharge cycle (you can't run down battery until 0%, will spoil very fast. car battery cannot discharge more than 80%) if you got any 'cable' working in telekom, you might be able to score some deep discharge type battery. very big and heavy. |

not all electrical appliances can take the output of modified sine-wave inverter... especially your fans, fridge, A/C, W/H with built-in pump etc...
You'll need pure sine-wave type inverter and this is where the cost is high! I did a research recently, for a ~450W solar PV grid-tie system, the cost is already about RM7k-8k. The greatest hurdle is these quality products are no where to be found in Malaysia... plus import TAX / troubles.... mood already turned off! If say managed to get & implement, this will only save you about RM20 worth of electricity bill every month, PROVIDED the SUN is shining bright everyday from 10AM - 3PM. So, ROI is 33 years. Earning through FiT policy only applies if you have a system that can supply surplus after taking care of the load of your house! On average, a Malaysian house with 2 adults consumes about 3kWh/day. Too many financials to think over before one can say it makes economical sense to jump onboard! |

the only thing is got to wait till solar panel price drop !
i hv not connect fan to my car inverter yet. maybe i shall try ? |

NelsonBoy, yes, u may try connecting a fan to your car inverter, it'll work but very noisy & no smooth fan rotation OR it may not work at all!

Why not try wind power? VAWT (Vertical Axis Wind Turbine) Works on low wind power too.

QUOTE(yanziqiang @ Jun 24 2011, 09:07 AM) NelsonBoy, yes, u may try connecting a fan to your car inverter, it'll work but very noisy & no smooth fan rotation OR it may not work at all! car inverter works wonderfully with a computer. I have used it many times in my car plugging my laptop in. For those interested more on FiT (Feed-in-tariff), visit below URL: http://peterchin.my/?p=1915 My opinion on solar is that one cell will give you the voltage but not the ampere (ampere is what gets work done). You would require more than 1 cell to run your solar array but if you are doing this just to get some data for solar generation efficiency then you are on the right track. In fact I am also thinking of doing the same thing to get some data. Do you guys think crystalline cells or thin film is a better technology? As for FIT we look forward to 1st september but then till now SEDA's website is still not up yet! |
