As the world's biggest and richest club, Manchester United reach a global fanbase.

Part of the attraction for fans around the world has been the football luminaries, such as George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, who have graced the Old Trafford turf in a Manchester United shirt over the years.

Recently, Manchester United have continued to attract or develop some of the game's biggest names, with England stalwarts such as Paul Scholes and David Beckham having been regular fixtures in the Reds line-up.

The Manchester United team, past and present, reads like a who's who of world football.

It is only fitting that a great team should grace a great stadium. And with Old Trafford's recent development and the closure of Wembley, the ground is easily the largest in English football, holding in excess of 60,000 fans.

Despite this capacity, the demand to see United in action is so great that tickets are hard to come by.

But it isn't only Manchester United fans who flock to Old Trafford. The standard of the ground is such that it regularly hosts high-profile games, most notably, the Champions League Final and Great Britain rugby league games.

Rock fans have also made use of the Reds's facilities, watching a number of high-profile acts at the ground.

But it's football that will forever be synonymous with the Reds famous ground - and with good reason.

The last decade has seen Manchester United under the shrewd leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson maintain a virtual stranglehold on the Premiership crown.

Manchester United has won the league no fewer than 18 times in their history. They are also Cup Kings too, winning the FA cup 11 times, the league cup 4 times, as well as winning the European Super Cup, European Cup Winner's Cup, and 3 times being crowned European Cup champions.

Manchester United has long become a name associated with success both on and off the pitch.

As club profits continue to grow, Manchester United have become one of the richest sports clubs on the planet.

With supporters club branches on every continent, it's hard to go any where in the world and not see somebody wearing the famous red shirt of Manchester United.

QUOTE(zenix @ Nov 24 2009, 09:18 PM)
Hope Alien will sticky this info later.
Though written in 2006 so no Roy Keane yet.

Ex-United players that have moved on to become managers.

Written by Simon Stone (MARCH 22, 2006)

STEVE BRUCE (1987-1996): Took his first steps in management with Sheffield United in 1998, then swiftly moved on to Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace. Left Selhurst Park in acrimonious fashion after Birmingham targeted him as the replacement for Trevor Francis in 1991. Took Blues into the Premier League but after a heavy FA Cup defeat is struggling to keep his job.

MARTIN POWELL (1971-1983): Stylish and well-respected Scotland centre-half whose authoritative nature appeared to make him a natural for the management game. Lasted four months at Burnley.

SIR BOBBY CHARLTON (1956-1973): Arguably the finest English player of all time proved to be an unmitigated disaster as a manager. Claimed he was not given the resources to make a decent job of it at Preston but was never lured back into management following his departure after a single season.

STEVE COPPELL (1975-1983): After a knee injury cut his playing career short at just 28, Coppell turned his attention to management. Steered Crystal Palace into the FA Cup final and then third place in the old First Division - the Eagles' highest ever - the following season. It was the first of four stints in charge at Selhurst Park in a career which has seen him move to Manchester City (for only six games), Brentford and Brighton. Now at Reading and about to steer the Royals into the top flight for the first time.

PADDY CRERAND (1962-1971): A key figure in United's 1968 European Cup triumph, Crerand lasted five months at Northampton before getting the bullet and, like Charlton, never managed again.

MARK HUGHES (1983-86, 1988-95): Hughes was never tipped as a manager by Ferguson but has taken to the game with ease. Took Wales into the Euro 2004 play-offs. Took over at Blackburn shortly afterwards, steering Rovers away from danger in his first season. Currently in contention for a Champions League spot.

BRIAN KIDD (1967-1974): Another European Cup winner who proved to be a poor manager. Got itchy feet in 1998 after spending seven years as Sir Alex Ferguson's highly-rated assistant. Took command at Blackburn but dismissed six months later.

BRYAN ROBSON (1981-94): United's inspirational leader under Ron Atkinson and Ferguson. There are two schools of thought on his stint at Middlesbrough - he either spent lots and achieved little (relegation and two losing finals) or he laid the platform for the Teessiders to become an established Premiership outfit. Kept West Brom up in extraordinary fashion last year but back in trouble again this season.

GORDON STRACHAN (1984-89): Scotland international who won the FA Cup with United and the title of the pre-Premiership era with Leeds. Sacked after five years at when the Sky Blues lost top-flight status, then enjoyed success at Southampton - reaching the 2003 Cup final - before resigning to spend more time with his family. Now at Celtic, has recovered from a humiliating Champions League exit to Artmedia Bratislava, and, after winning his first trophy on Sunday in the CIS Insurance Cup, is set to clinch the Scottish Premier League.

NOBBY STILES (1960-71): Along with Charlton, one of only two Englishmen to have won the World Cup and European Cup, he replaced his former England and United team-mate at Preston, with limited success. After a brief stint in Vancouver, returned to England to take over as manager of West Brom. Sacked after five months, having gained just three wins.

Hi alien, I uploaded the Scholes Centurion video (a compilation of all 100 goals he scored throughout his career in Man United).

If it's allowed, I thought why not share with other forummers by posting the link in the first few posts. The link is : http://rapidshare.com/files/367460321/PS_Cntrn1x0.rar =)

Edit (08 Nov 2010): Looks like the link is no longer working (thx to sinoffire for notifying) so I reuploaded the video to a new link:

Reserves: Utd 3 Bolton 1

QUOTE
United won the Manchester Senior Cup for the 30th time in the club's history on Monday night as the Reds' reserve team - bolstered by Darren Fletcher, Anders Lindegaard and Rafael - turned over Bolton Wanderers at Old Trafford.

This was the Reds' seventh win out of seven games in this season's competition - the group-stage successes including a 4-0 victory over the same opponents last September. Nick Ajose - who netted a 16-minute hat-trick in that earlier meeting - also struck first in the final, five minutes before the break, and was swiftly followed onto the scoresheet by Reece Brown. And although Bolton's Tom Eaves pulled a goal back in the 80th minute, Italian substitute Davide Petrucci sealed the silverware for United with a penalty moments later.

United’s best chance inside the first 10 minutes was carved out by Gabriel Obertan cutting the ball back from the right-hand byline, only for Ajose to misfire in the middle. Ajose was also off-target when Norwood played on after Obertan's penalty shout was ignored. The Reds' number nine met the midfielder's fine cross at the far post but nodded the ball onto the roof of Lainton's net.

Bolton spurned an opportunity to capitalise on some early counter-attacks when centre-back Ben Dennis planted a free header wide from Josh Vela’s left-wing corner. Lindegaard was called into his first real action moments later, diving right to clutch a powerful drive from Tom Eaves at the spearhead of Wanderers’ attack.

Brady tried his luck from both flanks as the Reds began to dominate, his first strike from the left spinning off a defender for a corner while his right-wing shot fizzed wide of the far post. Width was also key to Bolton’s attack with Obadeyi’s strength and pace on the left giving Rafael a rigorous work-out. At one point the Wanderers winger blazed a trail along the left-hand byline, with the Brazilian full-back in his wake, but Obadeyi’s final ball left his coach exasperated – perhaps because nobody in white could supply the merest touch required to put Bolton in front.

The visitors’ frustration was compounded moments later when United took the lead instead, Ajose latching onto Fletcher’s pass to rifle past Lainton. Fletcher, a Senior Cup winner with the Reds way back in 2000, was also involved in the second goal, when Josh Vela fouled him 25 yards from goal. The resulting free-kick seemed ripe for an attacking player like Obertan, Norwood or Brady to strike it – instead Reece Brown stepped up from centre-back to beat Lainton with a low shot into the bottom left-hand corner.

The two-goal lead gleaned just before the break sent the Reds striding into the second half and Ajose almost added a third goal when his first-time stab from Brady's low cross was swept away by Lainton's right leg. Brady rode a couple of challenges before supplying the ball and he had the beating of Bolton right-back Riley again when he forced a good save from Lainton himself.

Brady made way just before the hour mark, as did Matty James, as the Reds responded to Bolton's double change of personnel by sending

on Josh King and Marnick Vermijl. Both substitutes were quickly into the thick of it to work Lainton from either side of his area.

Rafael and Odebeyi reprised their first-half battle to the delight of a small crowd in the North Stand's lower tier, trading tricks and tackles in a skirmish as the game entered the latter stages. Fans of both clubs audibly enjoyed their duel but it was the visitors who were cheering next when Eaves received a pass from Vela and buried a shot beyond Lindegaard in the 80th minute.

If Bolton's goal put the final in the balance again, this lasted just six minutes until the Reds regained a two-goal cushion. Oliver Gill's marauding run into the area was halted illegally by Dennis' sliding challenge and referee Trevor Massey rightly pointed to the spot. Davide Petrucci, fresh onto the pitch as Obertan's replacement, put away the penalty to make it 3-1 to United and ensure Warren Joyce's team have a tangible reward for a long and largely successful season.

United: Lindegaard; Rafael, R Brown, Wootton, Gill; Norwood, James (Vermijl, 58), Fletcher, Brady (King, 58); Ajose, Obertan (Petrucci, 82). Subs not used: Devlin, Barmby.

Bolton: Lainton; Riley, Dennis, Connolly, McQuade; McGeechan (Kellett, 54), Vela, Blakeman, Obadeyi; O'Halloran (Odelusi, 54), Eaves.

Cleverley sees United future

QUOTE
Tom Cleverley has declared himself ready to play for Manchester United next season after gaining experience over the past few years.

The midfielder has been sent out on loan for the past three years to aid his development and has gradually become accustomed to playing at a higher level.

He spent time with Leicester in League One in 2009 before going to Championship club Watford last term, while he has played in the Premier League for Wigan this season.

Cleverley's focus remains on helping Wigan avoid relegation in his final game for the Latics against Stoke this weekend, but he is also looking further into the future.

The 21-year-old hopes to impress Sir Alex Ferguson sufficiently during pre-season that the United manager will not have to venture into the transfer market for another midfielder.

Hit the ground running

He told Sky Sports News: "Hopefully first of all I can have a good finish to the season on Sunday and a good summer with the Under 21s if selected, and then into next season hopefully I can get a good pre-season under my belt and start featuring for Manchester United."

Asked if he would be part of Ferguson's plans next season, Cleverley replied: "Yes, from what he's been saying.

"I feel fully part of the team there and the squad, and hopefully I can just hit the ground running in pre-season and play my way into the team.

"That is what the plan has been for the last few years. I went out in League One, the Championship and now the Premier League, so it has been building up to next season when hopefully I can start featuring for the side and that will save the club from going out and having to buy another midfielder."

Evra reveals Park secret

QUOTE
Patrice Evra thinks he has discovered the secret behind Ji-sung Park's remarkable stamina levels - Korean food.

The Frenchman is close pals with the midfielder, who produced another lung-busting display in the crucial victory against Chelsea last weekend, and is hoping some of his energy rubs off on his team-mates.

In an exclusive interview with MUTV, the United left-back admitted his friend could be a key figure in the Champions League final against Barcelona.

"Ji's unbelievable," said Evra. "I was just laughing when I was watching the game when he was running, because it was unbelievable.

"It must be the Korean food. I try to do the same, sometimes I go to his house and eat the same food. But [seriously] I think Ji is an example to every player. He runs for everyone. Sometimes if I'm tired I know I'll be okay because Ji will run for me.

"I think he's one of the most important players in the team because he doesn't stop running, he can run all day. It's funny because when we reached the final, some fan said, 'Yeah, we're going to win against Barcelona because Ji is going to run all day with Messi.'

"I made some joke with Ji in the dressing room afterwards, saying 'People now think you're a defender'."

Video: Rumoured Manchester United goalkeeper target Maarten Stekelenburg drops a clanger

QUOTE
Manchester United have identified their new goalkeeper for next season - but fans might be hoping it is not rumoured target Maarten Stekelenburg after the Ajax stopper literally dropped a clanger on Sunday.

Stekelenburg is one of three goalkeepers heavily linked with Old Trafford, along with Spanish favourite David De Gea and Germany's Manuel Neuer.

But as this video shows, his handling leaves a lot to be desired.

Owen reveals Final focus

QUOTE
Michael Owen says the players are determined to round the title-winning campaign off with a final day win over Blackpool on Sunday, but admits much of United's current focus is on the Champions League final.

Sir Alex’s men meet Barcelona at Wembley on Saturday week and Owen says all the players are relishing the challenge.

“These are exciting times,” he told MUTV at the Player of the Year awards.

“We obviously have a duty to the league to perform against Blackpool and we want to win that game, but I’d be lying if I said one eye wasn’t on the Barcelona match.

“A lot of what we’re doing in training is focused on stopping them. I was playing as David Villa on the left wing today in training!

“So we’re starting to prepare for the final, but we’ll certainly be focused on the Blackpool game on Sunday.”

Although he hasn’t been involved as much as he’d have liked this term, Owen insists it’s been an honour to be part of a record-breaking team.

“Just being in and around this team and under this management is a great privilege," he added.

"With it being the 19th title it’s created that extra bit of buzz around the city and amongst the players and fans.

“It’s been great to be part of such a good season. The lads have done remarkably well, but there’s still one more big, big game to go. Hopefully we can get the result we want.”

Boss outlines squad plans

QUOTE
Sir Alex Ferguson has reiterated his intention to bolster his title-winning squad with several new signings this summer.

The returning loan players give the boss some more options to assess but he recognises the loss of several elder statesmen is going to leave some gaps at Old Trafford. At United's annual awards dinner on Wednesday night, Sir Alex explained the current situation regarding his personnel.

I'm looking at possibly a couple, maybe three signings, which would boost our overall quality in the team," he told MUTV. "We've got some ideas in mind and, hopefully, we can get them put in place.

"Of course, the way we're looking at it is we have Ryan Giggs coming towards the end of his career, Gary Neville's already retired and Paul Scholes is coming to the end of his career. Edwin van der Sar's retiring and there are holes we want to plug up in terms of the safety and security of the team in the next few years.

"Of course, we've got some excellent young players - Chris Smalling has been absolutely magnificent this season, Jonny Evans has come back to great form, the two da Silvas keep progressing and Chicharito has had an incredible season.

"A lot of them have progressed this season, like Darron Gibson. That's the important thing. We've also got Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverley, Mame Diouf and Danny Drinkwater coming back, so it gives us quite a powerful squad."

Sir Alex laughed off criticism of his record-breaking title winners and paid tribute to his players ahead of the Champions League final with Barcelona.

"It's the worst we've had, worse than the team that got relegated in '74!" he joked. "You're right to dismiss that [criticism] because it's the name of the game with United. If we're not scoring 10 goals every game, I suppose, we have our critics because the expectation is high.

"Don't forget one thing - expectation is high from us too and, from the fans' point of view, they want to see the best. If you look at the two sides of Manchester United this season, yes you could criticise a lot of away performances for being disappointing but the home form has been fantastic. We've scored more goals than anyone else so it's hard to criticise that kind of form and our form in the European Cup is nothing short of sensational.

"We haven't lost a goal away from home and we've had solid performances at Old Trafford. In the two games against Chelsea, you've got to play well to beat Chelsea today because they are a very experienced and powerful team. So you've got to give credit to the players for these tremendous performances."

Possible Twitter ban for Manchester United players

QUOTE
user posted image

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has suggested his players could be banned from using Twitter.

The micro-blogging website is used by United players including Wayne Rooney, who was involved in an incident with a follower on Tuesday.

While Ferguson, 69, said he did not understand Twitter, he said the club are looking at the possible "issues attached" to using the website.

"I don't know why anybody can be bothered with that stuff," he said.

"How do you find the time to do that? There are a million things you can do in your life without that.

"Get yourself down to the library and read a book. Seriously. It is a waste of time.

"It seems to have a certain momentum at the moment. Everyone seems to want to do it."

Defender Rio Ferdinand is a prolific Tweeter, Michael Owen and Nani are regular users while Rooney recently joined the growing number of footballers with a large following after signing up last month.

The striker told one user "I'll put u asleep within 10 seconds" when he replied to an abusive tweet before dismissing his words as "banter".

However, a trio of footballers have been reprimanded by the Football Association for inappropriate comments made on their profiles.

West Ham players Carlton Cole and Danny Gabbidon have both fined and warned about their future conduct, along with former Liverpool striker Ryan Babel.

And Ferguson said his players must take greater responsibility, especially when conducting themselves off the pitch.

"They are responsible for their actions," he said of his players.

"We as a club are looking at it [Twitter] because there can be issues attached to it. And we don't want that."

And the Scot dismissed the suggestion that Twitter brings the players closer to the supporters.

"It would be better if they did it on the pitch," added Ferguson.

Rooney keen to face Blackpool

QUOTE
Wayne Rooney has told Sir Alex Ferguson he is desperate to stay in form by playing against Blackpool.

The Manchester United manager has hinted he may rest some of his established players for Sunday's final Premier League game with the title already secured.

United face Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League final in a little over a week's time and Ferguson is keen to keep his big names fresh.

Rooney, however, has no desire to rest and would like to maintain his momentum by being in a winning team at Old Trafford on Sunday against the relegation-threatened Seasiders.

"It's down to the manager to pick what team he wants to play in the two matches," he said.

"But I'm sure all the players want to play. You play football to play in these games and I hope I can play on Sunday. You want to keep ticking over."

United will be presented with the Premier League trophy after the game and having missed out on the crown last term, a rejuvenated Rooney is eager to clasp his hands on it once again.

"Lifting the trophy is a great feeling. It is great to look back on and is something to show your kids when they are older."

Former England skipper Rio Ferdinand has defended Ferguson's right to utilise his full 25-man squad as he sees fit.

The centre-back is aware his club could face action from the Football Association if they are deemed to have fielded a weaken team which could be in breach of rule E20, which stipulates that clubs must field their strongest available line up.

Ferdinand wrote on Twitter: "Why have a 25-man squad if you're hammered for utilising it? Don't make sense... when we changed eight or nine players earlier in the season (and won) I didn't hear the call for docking points."

He later added: "Who was moaning when we changed all of our team versus Schalke in the [Champions League] semi-final (and won)? What is the point of having a deep squad if it is wrong to use them all?"

Awards double for United

QUOTE
Sir Alex Ferguson has been named Barclays Manager of the Season, with Nemanja Vidic taking the player's prize.

Manchester United clinched the Premier League title with last weekend's draw at Blackburn and will receive the trophy at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Red Devils have also made it through to the final of the UEFA Champions League, where they will face Barcelona at Wembley later this month.

Two of the men at the forefront of their success have now been recognised in a prestigious awards double for United.

Centre-back Vidic has been a key cog in United's defence and has made more league starts than any other Red Devils player during the campaign.

Ferguson lands the top manager award from the Premier League sponsors for a ninth time, while 29-year-old Vidic has now been named Barclays Player of the Season twice in his United career.

The votes came from representatives of football's governing bodies, the media and supporters.

Race for Golden Boot

QUOTE
Dimitar Berbatov enters the final day of the season as the Barclays Premier League’s joint top scorer, level with former Reds team-mate Carlos Tevez on 20 goals.

United welcome Blackpool to Old Trafford on Sunday, while Tevez’s Manchester City travel to Bolton’s Reebok Stadium. Should neither player score, or both score the same number of goals, the Golden Boot will be shared. But that’s not what Sir Alex wants.

The Reds boss has plumped for Javier Hernandez ahead of Berbatov in recent weeks but confirmed United’s Bulgarian striker will start on Sunday in a game Sir Alex predicts will feature “a few goals”.

“It’s obvious that the emergence of Chicharito has made it difficult for me to pick Berbatov above Chicharito given his performance level, his goals, his freshness and his pace,” Sir Alex explained at his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“I think Dimitar understands that and he’s never complained. And when Dimitar’s been given his opportunity he’s done his best. He’ll play on Sunday and hopefully he’ll end up as the top goalscorer.”

Reds full-back Patrice Evra, who forged a strong friendship with Carlos Tevez during his time at Old Trafford, agrees with the manager: he wants Dimitar to win the Golden Boot.

“Berba is different class,” Patrice said. “I really hope he ends the season as the league’s top scorer. Whenever I get the ball I’ll be passing to Berba because I want him to score!”

Berbatov's league goals have come at a rate of one every 106 minutes this season, with Tevez finding the net for City, on average, every 121 minutes. Take penalties out of the equation (Berbatov hasn't netted from the spot) and Tevez's strike-rate rises to one every 151 minutes.

The Bulgarian's also socred more winning goals (seven) than any other player in the Premier League this term. Fingers crossed he grabs another on Sunday...
