apa keathian ini....feck i blame fa.park, nani, scholes, vidic should have been rested.damn that fa!!!

i guess when and if we lift the cl they wont be proud since the other team can practically rest their regulars.
*
Maybe we should just stop blaming FA for everything? Out of those, I think only Park, Vidic will definitely start against Barca. Nani & Scholes might not be a starter.

Fergie wins LMA Manager of the Year gong

QUOTE
Sir Alex Ferguson was tonight named Manager of the Year by his fellow league managers and used the occasion to offer his support to sacked Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Ferguson was also named the Barclays Premier League manager of the year following Manchester United's title triumph, and picked up a special merit award for having passed 2,000 matches as manager.

Speaking at the LMA awards dinner in London via video link from Old Trafford, Ferguson said: "It's a wonderful honour - it has been a fantastic season for us in the most difficult league in the world."

Ancelotti, sacked by Chelsea yesterday, attended the dinner and Ferguson said to him: "Carlo you are a fantastic man and you have showed great courage in coming to the dinner tonight. Well done."

Ferguson said of his double award: "I really do appreciate being named LMA Manager of the Year and being honoured with the LMA Special Merit Award.

"It's been such a competitive Barclays Premier League this season and I'd like to congratulate all of the managers, both in this league and throughout the divisions, on a job well done this season.

"The work the LMA are doing and the foresight they are showing is fantastic. We have to support the belief that we are doing the right things and the help that we can give to all facets of the game."

LMA chairman Howard Wilkinson and chief executive Richard Bevan both paid tribute to Ferguson, who guided United to the Premier League title and this Saturday's Champions League final as he approaches 25 years at the Old Trafford helm.

Wilkinson said: "Sir Alex is fully deserving of this recognition, once again he has demonstrated genius at critical moments this season.

"It's not just his longevity in the game at one of the world's biggest clubs which is remarkable, but his consistent delivery of success in over 35 years in football management."

Bevan added: "What Sir Alex has achieved this season, both personally and with Manchester United, is extraordinary.

"At the LMA we are also extremely grateful for the amount of time and dedication he willingly provides to our association and our members.

"On behalf of the LMA, I wish Sir Alex and the Manchester United players the very best for this week's UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley. It will be a tremendous feat if they can lift the trophy at the home of English football."

Norwich's Paul Lambert was the named the npower Championship manager of the year - the Canaries were promoted to the Premier League after finishing runners-up to QPR.

Brighton's Gus Poyet picked up the League One award and Chesterfield's John Sheridan won the League Two prize.

The LMA service to football award was given to Jimmy Hill, for his lifetime's work as a player, manager, chairman and broadcaster.

Red Nev going green at testimonial

QUOTE
Gary Neville’s testimonial tonight will the first to be powered by wind-turbine energy.

The retired Manchester United star, 36, has ensured everything from the floodlights to the hot water used to make fans' drinks will be driven by wind power when his old team play Italian giants Juventus at Old Trafford.

Neville, a green fanatic who recently had his zero carbon Teletubbies house approved , said: "To produce the first wind-powered match is something I’m proud of."

Boss' ultimate headache

QUOTE
Sir Alex Ferguson admits he has no choice but to disappoint several of his players as he mulls his team selection for Saturday's Champions League final.

The Reds currently have no injury concerns ahead of the Wembley showpiece against Barcelona, meaning the Boss has a selection headache over not only his starting line-up, but also his substitutes.

"It's not easy because you're dealing with the human side of the game," Sir Alex told a packed press conference at Carrington. "Players have worked hard all season, and it's been a squad game for us this year. It can't be easy.

"Unfortunately one person has to tell them and that's me. It's not an easy job but we have to win the game; they all understand that. They've all contributed and that doesn't make it easy for me. I hope I pick the right team and the right substitutes."

Pep Guardiola's side are the much-fancied favourites to overturn United at Wembley, but Sir Alex is confident that, with the resources at his disposal, he can mastermind the Reds' fourth reign as kings of Europe.

"We've played against Barcelona three times and there's always a solution to every good player," he said. "We hope we can find a solution for Lionel Messi on Saturday. You also have to recognise they have other good players and we have other good players. That's why it's such a thrilling game on saturday.

"We'll find a solution to the game. It's about what's best for us; what's the best way for us to win the match. It will be down to how we operate in the attacking part. I'm sure Barcelona are aware of the threats we have. We have to rely on our players to perform. I think we're ready and we've prepared very well."

Wayne Rooney's baby son Kai misses sitter during Old Trafford celebrations

QUOTE
It seems Wayne Rooney’s baby son Kai really is a chip off the old block when it comes to scoring goals for Manchester United.

The nipper was brought onto the Old Trafford turf to celebrate the Red Devils' record 19th league title, and spurned a golden opportunity to get off the mark when daddy Wayne placed the ball an inch from goal.

The old man also went through a similar goal-shy period earlier in the year and landed a new £250,000-a-week contract for his ‘efforts’, so you’ve got to give it to little Kai – he’s a quick learner.

Never one for patience, Rooney Snr picked up the ankle bitter and smashed the ball into the net himself - much to the relief of Michael Owen, who was desperate for the youngster not to eclipse his own goals tally for the season.

Kai’s choice of kit may have caused some concern among United fans – a ‘sky blue’ number was the jersey of choice…

But then again, if he wasn’t one for controversy, then he wouldn’t be much of a Rooney.

Evra trolling @ Arsene? laugh.gif

Evra offers Nasri incentive

QUOTE
Patrice Evra has suggested that fellow Frenchman Samir Nasri should join Manchester United if he wants to win trophies.

Arsenal playmaker Nasri enjoyed an excellent first half of the season at the Emirates Stadium before injuries decreased his impact in the second half of the campaign.

The Gunners also suffered another disappointing season as they again failed to win a trophy, while, in contrast, United lifted the Premier League and are preparing to meet Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League final.

Evra consequently thinks that Old Trafford is the place to be for success amid reports that Sir Alex Ferguson wants to sign Nasri, but the left-back is also surprised by the speculation about his compatriot.

"Really? I didn't know that," Evra told L'Equipe when informed of United's reported interest in Nasri.

"Anyway, if he comes, he has to know there is no room for mistakes. Each year you are playing to win. That is Manchester's culture.

"Each year it is a guarantee of a title. I have been at Manchester for five years now and I can't remember how many trophies I have won. 13? 15?

"So, 'Petit Prince', if you want to become King you know where you have to go."

No sibling rivalry for twins

QUOTE
Rafael da Silva says he will be happy for his twin brother, Fabio, if he is selected for this weekend's Champions League final clash with Barcelona.

One of the most intriguing selection dilemmas for Sir Alex Ferguson centres around his starting right-back at Wembley, with the twins and John O'Shea all in contention.

After nailing down the position for the bulk of this season, Rafael has been usurped by Fabio and O'Shea in recent weeks, but the more experienced da Silva twin says everyone is benefiting from the increased competition.

"I think it's always important to have rivalry," he says. "That makes us better football players. I think it's me, my brother Fabio and John O'Shea fighting for the same place.

"I'll be very happy for Fabio if he gets picked. I'll be sad for myself if I'm not playing but I'll be feeling happy for him. It's difficult for us to be competing for the same position but at the same time it's good. It helps us grow as players.

"I think I'm much more aggressive than him. He's much calmer than me. I get much more nervous when he's playing. I'm not sure why this happens but it does!"

The twins' potential involvement at Wembley is, according to Rafael, further validation of their decision to move to England in order to further their careers.

"Moments like this are the ones when we realize it was well worth it to leave everything behind in Brazil," he says. "This is a big challenge.

"It's very important for us to prepare properly, while taking into account that this is a Champions League final. We've done that so far and I'm confident we'll be ready."

Owen primed for 'perfect final'

QUOTE
Michael Owen admits it would be a dream to score on Saturday against Barcelona, in a game he describes as “the perfect final”.

The Reds striker, who netted United's last goal of the 2010/11 domestic campaign against Blackpool at Old Trafford, has never played in a Champions League final. He's not convinced he'll start this one, either, but insists he'll be ready should he be called upon from the bench.

“We have such a good squad here so we'll have to wait and see [if I feature]. But if I'm on the bench and I'm brought on then I'd love to score, obviously. But I've got to get on the bench first before I can even think about getting on the pitch.

“It doesn't frustrate me [starting so few games]. If I was at a smaller club then I'd never be involved in any big games. At least here at United I've got a chance of playing in them.”

Games don't come much bigger than United and Barcelona in a European Cup final.

“It's a cracking game,” Owen said. “If you look at European football then you'd say it's the ideal final. I think the purists and the neutrals would probably say Barcelona and United are the best two teams in Europe right now. It's the perfect final.”

The same was said of the 2009 showpiece in Rome, and that ended in tears for the Reds. On that occasion, Barcelona won 2-0, despite a bright start by Sir Alex Ferguson's men. Indeed, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ji-sung Park both had good chances in the opening 10 minutes to put the Reds ahead, before goals by Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi clinched the silverware.

Owen wasn't at Old Trafford then, although he has watched the tapes of that match in the build-up to this Saturday's fixture.

“We try not to speak about Rome too much, to be honest,” he said. “We don't want any negative thoughts going through our minds. We're just focusing on what we do best and how we can play against Barcelona.

“But what I will say is that if you look at the game in Rome, we were outstanding in the 15 minutes. If we'd scored a goal it would have been a different game.

“We have to make sure we score that goal this time.”

With Rooney enjoying himself at the current role, it will be a waste to play him on the wing IMO. We have to play him in his best position if we want to get the best out of him IMO.

QUOTE
Sir Alex hinted strongly at his pre-match press conference on Friday that Javier Hernandez will start against Barcelona at Wembley.

The young Mexican has been a revelation in his debut season at Old Trafford and now looks set to start in the Champions final.

"It's been an incredible season for the boy," the boss said. "Nobody at our club thought for a minute that he'd achieve what he's achieved in his first season.

"Hopefully he continues that way tomorrow night. He's got the temperament, he's got the speed, he's got the movement... he's got all the things necessary to be a good player tomorrow night."

http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features...Little-Pea.aspx

I do think Hernandez will start in the 4-4-2 tonight with Rooney continue playing just behind him in the "hole".
