SILVANO RAMACCIONI ON NESTA

9/10/2007

MILANELLO - Silvano Ramaccioni spoke about Nesta's farewell from the national team: "I saw him decided. I think that his was a thought and pondered choice. I didn't think it was the case to interfere. Despite the injury during the World Cup, he still left as a World Champion; it was a nice way how to give his farewell." cry.gif

Pirlo added to injury list

Football Italia

After Luca Toni and Gennaro Gattuso, there are fears Andrea Pirlo will also be ruled out of Wednesday's must-win match with Ukraine.

The Milan midfield maestro suffered a knock to his calf muscle during the 0-0 draw with France and was spotted hobbling around the training ground this morning.

More tests will be made later today and it is possible Pirlo will be sent home or at least advised to sit on the bench in Kiev next Wednesday.

It is a bitter blow for Coach Roberto Donadoni, who already has to plan this encounter without Marco Materazzi, Toni and the suspended Gattuso.

Bayern Munich hitman Toni had hoped to be fit for the Euro 2008 qualifier, but tests showed his muscular problem was still not eradicated, so he was sent home last night.

Juventus striker Vincenzo Iaquinta has been drafted in as a late replacement.

QUOTE
I think Ambrosini will be playing instead of De Rossi and Iaquinta might have a chance as well.so i predict a 4-2-3-1 formation, with the same four who played against France or maybe Panucci might replace Oddo, then Pirlo and Ambrosini playing infront of the defence, Quagliarella and Di Natale will be attacking in the wide helping and feeding Iaquinta or maybe Lucarelli.

I see Italy winning 2-0 goals from the Midfielders.

quote from another forumers,

so what do you think??

De Rossi: No excuses
Wednesday 12 September, 2007
Roma star Daniele De Rossi has refused to talk down the significance of tonight's clash with Ukraine and has called for the Azzurri to make their class tell.

Italy's chances of qualifying for Euro 2008 are in the balance after Scotland leapfrogged them at the top of the Group B table after last weekend's draw with France.

The pressure is mounting on Coach Roberto Donadoni and many believe that he will be axed if his side don't claim maximum points in Kiev.

Donadoni has been joined by midfielder Andrea Pirlo in claiming that a draw in Ukraine would not be a terrible result, but De Rossi seems to disagree.

"We have no time to lose if we are to avoid missing out on Euro 2008, which would be a serious blow for the national team and all the players involved," the Roman ace insisted.

"We must win in Ukraine by playing better than we did on Saturday. We may not be Brazil, but we are the world champions and we need to remember that."

There has been widespread speculation that Donadoni may change the formation for tonight's battle and he had admitted he was considering a 4-3-3 system.

However, it now seems that he will opt for more of a 4-5-1 with Juventus' Vincenzo Iaquinta as a lone striker with Antonio Di Natale given the nod in midfield.

De Rossi may have to settle for a seat on the bench as Massimo Ambrosini is ready to start and Pirlo has overcome a calf complaint to put himself in contention for a shirt.

Toni ready for action Friday 14 September, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Azzurri hitman Luca Toni could return to action for Bayern Munich this weekend after making a full recovery from a thigh injury.

The former Fiorentina hero enjoyed a superb start to life in the Bundesliga with three goals in as many games for Die Roten after a £7m move from the Stadio Artemio Franchi in the summer.

However, the Modena-born giant had to limp off in a game against Hannover 96 after injuring himself while scoring and he missed out on Italy's crucial Euro 2008 qualifiers against France and Ukraine.

After the frustration of watching Juventus' Vincenzo Iaquinta take his place in the squad for the trip to Kiev, Toni may be ready for a seat on the bench in the crunch match against Schalke on Saturday.

"Today he was training at around 70 per cent," revealed Bayern boss Ottmar Hitzfeld. "We're going to use him carefully though.

"There was no mystery about his injury. Our staff did all that they could, but he could never have recovered in time for the Italy game."

Toni will now try to keep up his impressive early form with the Bavarians and will look to earn an Azzurri shirt for October's clash against Georgia.
