QUOTE(Vcys86 @ Feb 5 2012, 08:32 AM)
Hi,

Would like to get some advice from sifus here.

My car (Gen-2 CPS), one of the its rim has been damaged (uneven cover on the tyre), which cause its tyre pressure keep on dropping overtime.
about 2kpi/day.

Since it is stock rim and stock tyre (almost 4yrs usage, almost 5 yrs from production date, it does consider old right?), I am thinking to change all 4 rims and the tyres as well. Should i?

Can i change to the original rim size +1 inch ? and the tyres +1inch as well? Is it stock come with 15"? any setback if i do this way?

Any suggestion/input on my above issue would be greatly appreciated. (rim, tyres, shop recommendation, etc.) Thanks.  notworthy.gif

we have the same car. Gen2 cps. I'm also close to 4 year. I barely understand your question. Our stock rim is 15 inch. Now i'm using 16 inch rim. When you use 16 inch then tyres also have to be that size. Not only gen2 use 16 inch rim but alot of gen2 on the road now using 17 inch. My suggestion is for you to stay with 15 inch. The 15 inch tyres are cheaper. 16 17 inch tyres are expensive. If you use bigger rims but cant afford the price then just ditch your plan for bigger rims. For example michelin ps3 for 16 inch is priced rm150-200 per tyre more than the same 15 inch. Times that to four tyres.

just thinking to upsize to 16" because of better grip and better look..
yup, the price different is quite big.. sad.gif
haha, to achieve something then have to pay the price for it.. smile.gif

Some recommend me 205 45 R16 of michelin ps3. Will it be a lot diff between 205 45 R16 and 205 50 R16 ? can it last like 40k mileage?
for me, grip(safety), performance(dry+wet), on the other hand noise and comfort can be compromise smile.gif
*
15 inch ps3 is probably around rm250-280. 16 inch maybe rm450-480. Are you ready to go at that price driving only gen2? You really do pay the price for the looks. I think thats too expensive for my gen2. Grip pretty much the same between 15 and 16 inch. If you use 205 45 16 the size is actually almost the same or smaller than 195 55 15. Use the online tyre size calculator to get the exact difference with stock size tyres. I use 205 50 16. I recommend getting maybe Yoko A drive r1. It was below rm300 last year. Don't know if the price has gone up. I now use yoko S drive and Kumho ecsta. Previously I used achilles atr.

Oh ok , I know Achilles is crap for daily driving so i'll skip that . Mind giving more info on RE002 ? I was considering Michellin PS3 .
*
Achilles is not so crap compared to nct5. It's better than most standard oem tyre. Anyone with a tight budget should consider Achilles. Get RE002. Newer released tyre than ps3. But I think i was quoted for 330 per piece Dec last year. Performance re002 I don't know really. But even re001 was better than ps3. So by theory re002 should be even better.

haha how come i become papa here. lol. Ah yes the C1S. I remember that tyre. Almost took that but choose ps3. Similar pattern i think. That was maybe almost 2 years ago. For toyo there's higher rating tyre like proxes isn't? Or is it called R1R/t1R??? Confused not really know much about toyo.

Now looking to try toyo as my next tyre. Already tried silverstone, bridgestone, hankook, michelin, kumho.

Please recommend performance tyre for awd car.
specifically 225/40/18 or 225/45/18
No semi slick pls cos im not track kaki

I see many say GY F1 Asym 2 very good. The price also quite high compare to other tyre.

How about yoko ad07, federal rsr, hankook evo s1? Or any good recommend?
Mostly for driving around places like genting. No need to be super good on wet cos if wet i'll wont push the car to limit. Just SAFE as in good stopping when wet is ok liao.
*
look at yokohama ad08. or bridgestone re11. or michelin pilot super sport.

Or advan sport. oem tyres for bentley. But since there's yokohama flagship tyre their ad08, advan sport should be below ad08.

yokohama ad07/08 are for high end sports car too, your point? lol

so long people have the money to get said tires, why not, right?

Added on April 18, 2012, 1:21 pm

i would recommend yokohama c.drive2 if you dont mind the higher than normal treadwear (soft compound)

i run my car at higher speeds (around/over 160km/h) and traction is fine. whacked corners at 100-120km/h also got enough grip.

wet performance also not too bad, highest ive run on wet is around 100-120km/h, dont dare whack corners during wet though sweat.gif

in general though yokohama tires are never famous for their wet performance and most reviews will rate their wet performance being very bad and i do agree. besides the compound auto hardens in wet and sorta lose its comfort/quiet feature and the faster you go the louder tire noise gets. so yeah for my case, no reason to sweat it out when its wet on the road smile.gif
*
cdrive2 is good choice. wet rating, comfort and economy yokohama rates it even higher than s drive which cost a lot more. Dry grip of course not s drive level. But you're not driving it on track isn't. You can't get everything perfect. Even expensive tyres might have something thats not perfect.

I wan change tyre soon, any suggestion for 195/50/16 or 205/5016?

im thinking of:

Yokohama A drive
Continetal ContiPremiumContact2
or any brand recommended??

Budget below Rm300

I prefer comfort, low noise and well grip on the road during wet for normal ride speed less than 150km/h.
*
a friend uses it and says grip not so good. But everyone has his own preferences. I used t1R and don't like it at all. But my friend sings heap of praises for t1r. For that budget try maxxis ipro or kumho ku31. If you want good wet grip try goodyear Directional 5. But it's over rm300 and newer batch comes from China. Achilles is surprisingly good for its price. Don't expect too much when your budget is low. Realistically you have to accept some things such as comfort , low noise and grip during wet etc doesn't come in a package. More expensive doesn't mean that particular tyre will have it all. As good review re001/re002 has, its wet grip probably less than cheaper tyres. Probably c drive 2 or CC5 suits your budget if there's your size.

need some advise... driving a wira se. stock rim was 16inch but somehow the previous owner changed to 15 inch rim with 195/50/15 a drive. now after 3 years driving thinking for a change. any suggestion for tyres with budget of 1k and have a more quiter driving? tq
*
Probably you should thank the previous owner. 16 inch and 15 inch price is quite a big difference. Get ps3. I think your budget can afford. Maybe get size 195/55/15 to get more choice of tyres in the future.

so much to go through all 35 pages so I just asking here.  with budget RM250/pc what brand and model recommended for 205/50/16? Prefer good wet grip and for spirited driving. Don't care about noise. I just want a tyre that good for wet, high speed and can last at least 40,000km.

Thanks in advance
*
try kumho ku31. It was so good for me i dont thnk my current t1r and re002 is significantly better than ku31. Other people might have different feel. Although i suspect ku31 wont last long due to its soft compound. I got it 240 /piece last december.

Finali i decide change to s drive from re001.
*
good choice. Made in Japan 100%. I used it before. better than reoo1 in wet. Dry grip is also excellent. But the comfort from the noise is unbearable. Only after using s drive will u know the true meaning of noisy tyres. I don't think there's any tires out there as noisy as this s drive.
