I know you may not like it, but to me, that Custom will sound SWEET with EMG Actives inside.....
Either the Zakk Wylde route of a 81/85, or the Hetfield 81/60 combo.....

Either way, EMGs will SCREAM on that bad boy.
*
hahaha
active wh0r3s!
passive ftw!!!
haha =p

81's i think would be ok for the bridge
since its very bright

but actives ain't my taste
hehe

Ahh thanks, so i'll ask my parents to bring them back for me tongue.gif
Err to be honest, before i bought my Epi, i was sort of reserving that standard for the real deal Gibson, but at the moment since i owned my Epi, i have second thoughts, i might as well get a better tube amp.
Heard EMGs before, sound err too ganas for me, dont have the balls to handle them tongue.gif
To my ears they sound more towards metal while Slash sounds more towards classic rock, abit gentle
Havent heard of that combo personally, perhaps some sound clips please?
*
right on
i'll get myself a cheery plaintop gibby one day
btw
cud u pm me the details of purchasing the epi custom from ishibashi
the price for the axe, insurance and the hardcase

thx bro =]

what i hear from EMG cleans is that they kinda lack warmth and sound sterile
but with loads of gain, be prepared to get smacked in your face with sound lol

keep off EMG81 on the bridge if you're using alder body or bright sounding woods

from my experience, the EMG81 on a kelly sounded horrible, shrilly and err fuzzy.
i can't say the same if its in a warm sounding guitar tho

but well, i'm not a fan of active pickups so, maybe im a little biased =p

you all just havent met the right active pickup yet tongue.gif

cos guys like nickelback, mark knophler, SRV can pull it off with EMGs...

its all about having a unique sound that fits the song.
*
yeah
that might be the case

SRV used EMG's???? o.O

i have a JB/59 combo
i'd to say that the 59 is not the most spectacular neck pickup around, tho it hits the oldie PAF tones pretty well =) perfect for blues but not much of other stuff i'd say, not so suitable IMO.
JB wise in the bridge, sounds very good. The strong mids on the lp mixes very well with the slightly scooped low-mid freq of the JB.

custom5, i haven't tried that b4, so i can't say.

all i can add is if you play classic rock or blues, the 59 is really really nice, but if you want an all rounder i think the jazz would do a better job.
but then again, i only tried the jazz in alder bodied guitar, so i might change my mind if i hear a jazz in a paul.

hope that info from a not so experienced person can help biggrin.gif cheers

you don't need hot pickups for good tone bro
haha

Yeah man, I like how the JB sounds. But itching to get a new ax to have sonic variations. Looking for some alder bodied guitar. YUM biggrin.gif
Anyway, have you tried Dimarzio Super Distortion in an alder bodied guitar? How does it sound?

i thinking of getting dimarzio "The humbucker From hell" for my ibanez rx in the bridge position...
it cost rm320.00...
what do you guys think....???
i often play metal song....
does it suites???
*
On the contrary with the name. Humbucker from hell is actually a medium output pickup. If I'm not mistaken that is.
If output is what you want, the Dimarzio X2N has plenty of it.
