Really? In that case I think I'll settle for the Premium Alnico Pickups.

when blacktrix lacks of cash, it just means his bank account is below the 500,000 ringgits threshold. You gotta understand the panic...

I finished my wiring few hours ago. The whole thing is quite different than the normal strat wiring, because the cables that reach the bottom of the pots can actually be put on the bottom of any pot... Once I understood that, I could gather what was where... Well, I wasn't really certain about what I was doing but in the end I was SO impatient, I put everything back, screwed the scratchplate back, found out few screws and other stuff left unused on my desk....
.. and when I plugged my guitar in, I was proudly surprised to find out that ALL the pots and ALL the p-ups were working smile.gif Damn, I'm good !!

First impressions on the sound : much more clarity and dynamics, but I'm not in a guitar-day so not much more to say (Imagine : you slit open the guts of a cow... you won't find yourself hungry for a Big Mac laugh.gif). However it proves that upgrading the pickups is not critical : getting a well-built guitar and a nice amp comes first if you're looking for a good sound. Improving the pick-ups is secondary, it won't drastically improve the sound. (I'm talking about clear and crunch sounds... I guess it is different for heavy metal stuff : higher output pick ups WILL improve the sound)

Ok, that was just a few boring thoughts... smile.gif

Just my 2 cents' worth, but maybe you guys can try buying from eBay. I managed to procure my DiMarzios (an X2N & Air Norton) at Around RM510 (incl. shipping!) which would have otherwise cost me RM800-RM900 at Woh Fatt's or La Floresta's. Swee Lee's In Singapore would have cost me around RM800 as well.

Just look up any power-sellers on eBay and check against the conversion rate. One catch though, if you have the pickups shipped into Malaysia, you might get taxed by customs which then wouldn't justify the costs in total. What I did was have my pickups shipped to a relative in Singapore (cos' Singapore FTA with America means such goods usually don't get taxed like in Malaysia) who later passed it to me in person. Tedious process but I saved RM300 that way!

Good luck!

There's ways round it. Besides, the customs rarely touch small items. Also, specify in the customs declaration as guitar parts (if you just say "DiMarzio Air Norton" the customs might check) and check "gift" or provide a gift certificate. My DiMarzio's never got touched this way.

which pickup is more suitable for metal then? rolleyes.gif

ohya, everydying. what is ur pickup height setting for active EMG?
i ever tried to get bridge pickup treble side set to 0.5mm.
love its super overdriven sound, but too bad that when i play around with the floydrose arming, string will eventually touch the pickup... >__<

so, now i have to set it back to 1.5mm as standard minimum setpoint for other passive pickup...

any suggestion?

0.5mm? you must play very very very light.
i put mine at 2mm at the closest.

0.5mm also too extreme for me also...
but the sound is awesome... =)

anyway, now my bridge pickup height:
treble side 1.5mm
bass side 2.0mm

everdying, i got another question...

for les paul case, they got 2 vol 2 tone,
so no issue on matching bridge and neck pickups volume.

but for my case, 1 vol 1 tone...
(bridge) ceramic EMG 81, (neck) alnico EMG 85, volume r big different...
it's kinda hard to get balance volume between both pickups.

any good idea?

adjust pickup height properly tongue.gif
set your bridge to how you want it, then lower your neck so the output matches.
my LP and SG i hardly touch the vol or tone controls, so i set it that way also.

btw, there is only one way to prevent the strings touching the pickup when you use the floyd.
remove the pickup tongue.gif

thats why you see those manufacturers who pay attention to detail, actually have a nice plastic ring or black tape around the passive pickups, so when you return back to pitch after diving down...
the string doesnt get caught under the sides of the pickup.

hi guys,i've got myself and RG2570E for rm2,700.Guess its a good buy since its just 3 months old and the condition is perfect except the 2 scratches behind. The neck plays great, the body feels solid and light, the sustain is good, the pickups are hot and warm.Very flexible guitar. The only thing is the bridge pickup.I think its either its too warm and muddy to get oasis's live overdrive sound in rhythm playing.I'm thinking to replace the bridge pickup any suggestions?I'm also wondering why the mid pickup's output is so low,is there anythin i can do to increase it?I'm hoping to get some fender-ish and les paul-ish tones.Sounds greedy, but i want the most out of my axe!

BTW noistrigger, what pickups are u using on your bridge?

Please advise! Thanks

Wow....... now you're making me drool. another Prestige owner... congrats!! and its a good price you got there!
the bridge pickup is based a little bit on the Tone Zone if i'm not mistaken... so I suppose you find the mids and the bass a little overwhelming. Guess you might be looking for something cleaner and more balanced. noisetrigger is using a Breed. I'm using a D Sonic.

and... we demand pics! tongue.gif

DiMarzio Tone Zone...
try searching the net for reviews. that will help u decide and look at the dimarzio website to have a rough idea what kind of sound spectrum u are to expect. I can't tell u the difference coz I haven't tried the breed myself. check one of my previous posts in this thread to see what i described about the d sonic, and i think noisetrigger did also.

is the mid pickup really that low output? or are you expecting it to produce the same output as the humbuckers? of course not. it is understood that it will produce less output than the other two pickups. you can increase its output by moving the pickup closer to the strings. but mine isn't close either coz otherwise it'll get in the way of my picking. if u want a stratty sound from ur mid, try a DiMarzio Blue Velvet. your current mid pickup doesn't produce a somewhat stratty sound?

aha,i've tried out noistrigger's bridge pickup and i loved the way it sound. No,my mid pickup's output is not slightly low compared to the bridge. Its at least 50% lower. It does have "some" stratty sounds there.Maybe i'm more to a stratty guy.

Your bridge pickup is actually based on the Dimarzio Super Distortion and Steve Special I think.

As for the middle pickup, it is normal for the output to be lower unless of course you change it to SD quarter pounder.

Stock, don't bother matching it to the humbucker. I just match the volume to position 2 and 4.
