First of all, I would like to ask for opinions regarding this matter.

My colleague who is an Indonesian was sent to work on my current project temporarily. He fell sick (mainly fever and sore throat) and went to see Klinik Ng yesterday. He was given 6 types of medicine (fever, antibiotic, tablets for sore throat, cough syrup, tablets for nausea and syrup called Gaviscon). The medicine were given in a small quantity (for tablets - less than 10 pills each type). He was charged RM 150.
I thought this was ridiculous and called the hospital on my colleague's behalf to ask how they came up with the figure because he couldn't speak English and Malay fluently. I was very disappointed with the nurse who answered my call as she slammed down the phone after saying "Your friend is not under 12. He got mouth to talk". She was very rude all the while but I managed to ask that the consultation fee they charge is RM35.

So did my colleague get cheated? I feel so bad for him as a doctor in Malaysia would treat foreigners like this. I am utterly disappointed that there are doctors who only care about money.

Should demand to speak to the doctor. At least go complain about the rude nurse.

Want to take it up a notch? Go relate the case to the Malay Mail Hotline.

Gaviscon is for heartburn, hmmm.

Looks like he was cheated to me.

The woman's response on the phone is typical. As a foreigner myself, I am becoming increasingly disillusioned with the attitude of people in service positions in Malaysia. From shops to government officials to police to airport staff. They are a joke. No social skills whatsoever.

Go to the clinic with your friend once he gets better. Sort it out. He'll probably not get any kind of refund but at least they will know that people will not stand for this kind of behavior.

I was just about to search on Forum Lowyat to see if this is the case.

I checked in with the doctor for fever, sore throat and some slight flu.

He charged me RM191 for 3 days of medication.

I'm not sure what is the name of this doctor, he's an Indian. Don't recall them charging this much on weekdays.

Should totally report this. Cheater!

First step is probably to request for a break down of the fees.

This is the guideline for doctors:
http://www.mma.org.my/Portals/0/Introducti...%20Part%20A.pdf

Probably can go forward from there.

Anybody that feels that the charges by either hospital or klinik in the private side can forward their complains directly to the MOH.

If really the doctor is overcharging the MOH can do something about it. However bear in mind the following

1. MOH/KKM regulates ONLY professional fees (that is doctors charges)
2. So if the doctor charges too high on medication, we can only forward the complain to the consumers side of the ministry to give them warning letter
3. Only fees problems are handle by me. But if you're unhappy about services or you feel that the doctor is unethical, you can also email directly to me so I can forward it to the correct department for action.
4. If you are the complainant, the rules and regulations 'says' that you need to meet up the doctor for 'grievance procedure'. so if you want to complain but remains anonymous, it is much more difficult to take action, since part of the investigation of the complains will 'dig out' your case files. However, all investigation will be strictly confidential between MOH/complainant/premise.
5. If you can, provide evidence bout the alleged doctor. for example, if you feel that you're overchaged, asked the doctor to give you itemised bill. It is by law that they have to. If they don't want, then it's MMC that will take action.

hope this help
