My friend who is a foreinger and 17 years old student.
She wants to open a saving account without her parents or guardian for receiving money from abroad.
(Her family send money)
She just got her institution letter but the problem she is not yet 18.
I am helping asking. So is it possible for her to make an account alone and get an ATM card?
If so, what banks are very common for foreinger students and easy to open?

In Malaysia most banks require minimum age of 18 and above to open a savings account. Best to check with the college admin, ask them if they had similar experiences with students below 18.

However, I heard one of the 17 years old Taiwanese boy successed opening a bank account with ATM at BSN, CIMB and Maybank.
On the other hand, one of the 17years old from Thailand could not manage to get his saving account at all.

Maybe his parents came over to Malaysia and go to the bank with the boy to open the account. Like that maybe can because have consent letter from parents.

usually I remember it's joint-account one. parents joint with kids. if individual i think u have to be 18 above.

Suppose they are allowed? no? I myself is a foreigner and i manage to open bsn, cimb, muamalat and maybank with just following their normal requirement. initial depo min 250, copy of passport. And only maybank asking for letter from college.
