I'm considering to buy a 3DS. Never have been a nintendog owner, in fact, never been a handheld gaming device owner. but the nature of my work to send me to places with no internet connection has made me interested in this.

could you guys enlighten me on what I should be considering before buying? and whats the R4 and Acekard??

so guys, what about choosing the region?

any pros and cons to choosing the two? i know the US region one is considerably cheaper... but are the games cheaper?

basically, i want to know which one will most likely penetrate the market more?
i don't want to get the US region one to find out that most games sold here are the Asia region one

and can multiplayer games work through different regions? like my friend has a Asia set and i have a US set, can i play with him locally?

or can i play online with some foreigner in europe maybe?

Asian Region = US Region. So u won't be left out.

Mutliplayer games depend on the game developer. SSF4 3D was cross region. SO its possible. but still depending on the games.

kidding of course. But in light of the fact that we Malaysians and Singaporeans mostly know English and not Japanese, we get US region.

It may be "Lowyat.net exclusive" but most certainly not Lowyat's own. Didn't recall that I gave up that rights to LYN, last I remember, it is still my credit.

hm.... so we cannot play Japan region games? but Japan is Asia too.... or can we?

the 3DS tagged as "Asia" model is basically the US 3DS with a different serial number range (prefixed with characters "ASI"), a 220V power charger and so called official distributor warranty.

in game terms, the regions are normally categorized as JP, US, Europe/Australia ... so US hardware plays US games.

you could say the "Asia" region games for 3DS are basically US game carts sold with different box, manual, pricing etc (some might even have exactly same box contents ... just different serial numbers lol)


for online contents ... it's better to wait another 2 days instead of speculating ... to see if ASI models can access the US eShop by just setting the country settings !

I just newly got the Spotpass notification from Nintendo and tells me that update will be available this evening..

So, is that mean our update will not follow US timezone and we can continue the update today? Oh yeah...

It also mention that there's a disruption problem with Ridge Racer game after updating the firmware and future fix update will be release...

I never had a spotpass since day 1... lol..
