I would choose Creative Gigaworks T3 for overall goodness + portability
Edifier S530D for great loudness
Aego M for the best sounding music speaker ever
Harman Kardon Soundsticks III for the best looking speaker
Edifier HCS5640 for the most functions available for ordinary speakers
Edifier DA5000PRO for the amazing 5.1 performance

Corsair SP2500? mm... I've never tried this one at stores yet... not much comment though. Gaming power?

S530D got a thumbs up on loudness power with no distortion
T3 got amazing power for such small speakers.

Aego M doesn't have the bass for gaming but soundcards can always tune it. (though Aego M works best for music)
give Corsair SP2500 a try since it's designed for gaming whistling.gif

thanks for your recommendations. after much research, i too feel for my price range of up to RM800, those are pretty much what i've short listed. just to share, my listening habits are pretty much 40% music & 40% gaming at the same time, with the occasional stand alone movies playing for the remainder 20%.

i was, however at one point, considering the S730, however, it's much more than my budget, and as i understand, the main difference between the s530d and s730 is only the subwoofer. and since i'm not too much of a bass-head, and my room and desk will not need that much low end filling, i decided i'm after higher fidelity in the mids and highs. so that's out of the picture.

i have read many favourable reviews for the Aego M for many years, however, i've not the privilege to have a listen on my own. is there somewhere in Low Yatt Plaza or elsewhere i can give it test drive? same goes for the Gigaworks T3, does Low Yatt have them on showcase like they do for many Edifier models? i read it's able to produce better mids and highs compared to the s530d.

the SoundSticks III, imho, is over-rated. my friends own them, including a friend who is a musician. he summarized it perfectly: i bought the HK SSIII because they looked good, however, they are far from perfect and require much EQ tweaking. we both agree, they lack in the mids, very much recessed. pretty much like plenty of the mid-range Bose sound systems you get, while paying a lot more of the brand and the lack of aesthetics.

as for the Corsair SP2500, being a new competitor in the market, there are plenty of reviews out there now, however, there isn't a review by the few websites i keep track whereby the have reviewed other 2.1 speakers in the past. i would be keen to see how they fare against the previous reviewed systems. so i'll have to scout around Low Yatt again to see if i can have a listen.

so far, i'm eyeing, the s530d, the Giga T3, and Corsair SP2500 for my price range. since all these systems typically are able to handle highs and thump out bass with without breaking a sweat, i will continue my research and share here, how they are able to bring forward the mids to mid-bass frequencies, an area 2.1 PC speakers tend to do poorly. the Aego M as many have confirmed, does extremely well in highs and mids, however may not do as well in the bass compared to the others. i too will share my opinions on their sound signatures, and my preference in my tastes of music & gaming senarios.
