FYI

HD600A  (Realtek 1185)

builtin Wifi 150Mbps RTL8188 (MiniPCI-E)
might crash with SATA controller , cause wifi unstable.

wait new SDK to fix it
for safe, suggest buy USB N dongle 300mbps (RTL8191SU)
*
I think what you are saying applys to all 1185 players with built-in wifi and not just HD600A. My past 3weeks experience with HD600A via wifi, there's no such problem surfacing yet for me. The only problem is the design which restricted the speed.

You must see in some customers point of view, those who wants build-in wifi is so they could have more free usb ports. Those who only use wifi once in a while won't really care if it's 150mbps or 300mbps.

Posting once about 8188 might "impress" ppl about what you know, but anything more is kinda irritating (at least for me). Think posting real experience on HD600 player itself will be more useful. Think most of us in this thread will be really happy if you can sure any personal info you have with HD600B brows.gif

True. I dont actually use the internet via the media player. Cumbersome interface. Use ipad instead. That was why I asked before if there was any specific use for the wifi connection. Reason I got a media player is so that I dont have the use my laptop. So I wont be streaming videos through wifi.

Tried Youtube few times only. Seem ok but just to test. Didnt actually play with it. How you define unpopular vids?  rclxub.gif
*
Thanks for the info^^ Those vids that ppl rarely play seems to have problems. I tried random search like 555 most of the search result vids doesn't play, but will play on youtubexl. I'm wondering if it's my player problem or my isp or himedia problem. Youtube aren't that important to me, BUT maple stage is^^; it runs from youtube, so a lot of stuffs doesn't play >.<

I got the same message 'cannot play this file' in Youtube and several other online movie IMS.. i'm using standard fw., learning now how to upgrade the fm via usb soon!
*
Some IMS you get "cannot play this file", reason is China side blocks overseas connection^^;

Here're the steps for update firmware;

1. Copy install.img to a thumbdrive (some said best below 2GB, but I have no problem with 8GB ones)
2. Turn off the player.
3. Plug in the thumbdrive
4. Use a toothpick poke into the small hole beside the power supply port, you should feel a button within being pressed.
5. Turn on the player while keeping the toothpick poked in for like 5 secs.
6. When you see HiMedia Upgrading screen, you can let go the toothpick.
7. While the upgrade takes place, DO NOT turn off the player or touch the thumbdrive^^;
8. AFter it complete it'll restart, and you can take out the thumbdrive. Your player is now updated^^

Tks..lordsbm.
I would also like to find out where do you get the DIY fw?  I presume this forum site is the official release.. (http://bbs.himedia-tech.cn/forum.php?mod=forumdisplay&fid=66&page=1)
*
I'll pm u the DIY FW link in a minute, but use it at ur own risk^^; cause some seller may charge you if anything goes wrong with your player for not using their firmware.

no worries, will do a due diligent b4 any action..

btw..since this player is internet enabled, how can we get the media player to display movie's poster, rating, or a short description from IMDB , like how XBMC does it..?

Any clue? or it has to be a product enhancement request ?
*
normally short description/rating I see only in some IMS like PPS.

Pps blocked by TM or because of the player?
*
For HD600A case it's due to the player, but Malaysia ISP also blocked PPS. I know cos the m9 player I bought from zhen^wei can play PPS in Singapore but can't play in Malaysia. PPS is good to have, but nothing much on it. What I really wish they fix is youtube^^;

no available at himedia ? no firmware ?
the datage can play in HK and singapore according to the manufacture. but not sure for malaysia. becoz not yet tested.
I heard PPS block Malaysia IP.
maybe because there is 1-2 brands media player which have the PPS license and available to play in Malaysia. that's why they block Malaysia IP to protect these 2 brands.
*
PPS is in HD600 firmware but it doesn't play. Even though HD300 PPS does play in Singapore, somehow it does not applies to HD600. So it's not Himedia doesn't play PPS, but something not correct in the firmware.

From what I understand, the firmware structure of 1185 and 1073 is somewhat different. So if you just applied 1073 IMS directly to 1185, you may encounter problems. There's a guy who made a really nice DIY firmware for HD300, now he has transfered that to HD600, some stuffs just don't work sleep.gif

edit: but then again PPS is quite disappointing in media players, I'd yet tried the VIP version, but there'll be hacked. Think the main issue Himedia should tackle is youtube. IIRC, when POHD2 just released also have youtube problem. Don't know if it's 1185 SDK problem.

My advise is don't get HD600A as a NAS cause having a HDD outside takes up space and don't look good. If you stack on top of the player, the player gets too hot >.<

Try look at HD600B. I'm going to get HD600B cause I'm going to use it as a NAS^^ But still waiting for review if there's any heat issue cos it's fanless.

Currently, I'm using Samsung F4 2TB HDD with HD600A. Partition and format with HD600A. Somehow HD600A doesn't detect the HDD cause the main partition doesn't gets formated and I have to use Win7 to format it. Which is ok, cause I can mass transfer my movies in. When I connect the HDD back via SATA, everything works well.

I did connect an old HDD to HD600A, but on it's unstable like eaget m9. Sometime it goes missing and needs restart. But now with the latest my PC can always detect HD600A folders. Tried the other day, on it for like a day, no problem with detecting. Transfered 120GB of files via network to the HDD connected to HD600A without any problem.

Also tried 4+GB file via wifi, it's slow but things get transfered^^ But with that being said, if you really need a serious NAS, best not use a media player^^;

Oh ya, there's people saying HD600A may have issue with 2TB HDD with SATA, so you might wanna take note^^;

my intention is not using the HD600A as NAS but rather connect HD600A to a NAS (ie. buffalor Duo Pro or Dlink 323/320) thru the ethernet port in HD600A..  So, it is something like NAS->internet switch->HD600A ...
So, I'm wondering which NAS product has the easiest setup to hook up with HD600A..
*
I don't have a NAS, so can't tell you for sure. But I think it's ok, cos NFS is up on HD600A and I have no problem streaming files from my PC.

I suggest those with HDD detction problem to update to http://dl.himedia-tech.cn/HD600/HD600_1.0.2.2.rar

Somehow it seems that 1.0.2.2 on youtube has lesser "cannot play this file"

Official internal distribute firmware. I only post the official ones, and only pm DIY ones when asked^^

edit: based on feedback from an owner in Singapore, it helped fixed his Samsung 2TB HDD via SATA not detecting problem

Mips under linux too weak.  Browser not much feature .
Hope u can visit Facebook ^,^ ?
*
facebook there's realpilot. You haven't even try HD600A/B have u?

Browser wise it'll be the same with all 1185 players, it's just a handy feature to have when u need check something quick. (like checking 4D) We aren't like 15yrs ago where you only have 1 option to access the net. There's smart phone, tablet, laptop, pc, etc^^;

edit: The logitech mouse problem impresses me cause another brand 1185 player also have this problem. They took a very long time trying to fix it, not sure if it's fixed yet^^; But HiMedia took about 1 month. At least they are trying hard to fix bugs, at least no need wait a few weeks/months then come out 1 firmware. Then cannot work, need to backwards and wait somemore^^;

Also as end user, we don't really care too much of technical aspect. All we want is the player to function well and more features are always welcome. You can tell me the player you sell is made of best board but selling at cheapo prices. But at the end of the day, can't deliver what the player promise, worst can't try to fix it, even worst blamed it or try confuse the customer that it's his/her fault^^;

unfortunately Himedia support site is lacking the responsiveness... Nevertheless they are making great progress in terms of fw fixes...for this I will give them a thumbs up...

I shall try my wireless mouse m215 later after upgrading to 1.0.2.3 , hopefully the logitech support is not only limited to MK250..

edited : I hope himedia will get the online upgrade option available soon, since this is a internet enabled media player there isn't any reason not to provide this nice and hasslefree feature... WD Live has that so do many other branded media players...

rgrds
*
Think it should work with m215 too cos the fix is for logitech mouse^^ I think they don't reply on the site, but they could have read it. IMHO quick action is better than giving a reply but takes ages to get it fixed^^;

I hope they can upgrade without the need to press the reset button behind. Think firmware not ideal to upgrade online, what if 1/2 way connection stopped^^; it'll brick the player, even more trouble>.<

edit: @zhen^wei, I agree with you on HiMedia and Kaiboer^^ I read ur reply regarding why datage and not eaget for 1185, and I applaused you for the decision^^ It's always better to get a brand who's willing to work hard to fix bugs than one who's slower, it's at the best interests of us consumer^^

Hi all owners Himedia 600 series product.
I have one question before I buy 600a model.

Or lan speed in Himedia 600 is sufficient to play movies 1080p or m2ts over network ? I now is lan 1000mbit, but my router netgear dgn2000 has only 100mbit speed ethernet.
If performance lan is high ? to play hight bitrate movies full hd mkv and 35-45 Mbps ?

I hope you understood what i mean.
Thx
*
You are not on 1G network yet, cause missing the router. I'm on 1G network (1G lan, cat6 cable and 1G router), but HD600A can't run on 1G network yet even though the hardware is ready to. I get 45 to 90+MBps streaming movie from my PC, before my router upgrade I get 23 to 53+MBps which is sufficient. Running 1080p movies (tried 14 to 26GB file) is not a problem, unless it's one of those odd movies that have problem (even on other players). Wifi is the only thing I'm not really happy with HD600A, but I rarely use that.

@numbertwo, my sony nx710 3D LED TV also needs a hardware to upgrade the firmware^^; Even electronics giant aren't setting the firmware upgarde standard yet^^;

Try to use the "forced" upgrade (meaning reset button) when upgrading HD600A, it's often recommended. Reason is these are internal distributed official firmware (meaning it's for internal testing).

Zhenwei want jump boat to Datage now?  Eaget not No.1 in china ??  laugh.gif

I'm first indirect bring datage product..  good brand.

FYI, Kaiboer oem by (Giec or Ebluetimes )..
*
OMG, why didn't you continue and get distributorship since u think it's a good brand? Isn't that a bad business judgement? By not doing that, you let zhen^wei gained all those profits >.<

It really doesn't matter what brand is an oem or made from other factories as other brands. N*ke doesn't really have a factory, but we all love the brand. It's also the support and recognition from the brand most consumer are after.

I read somewhere about MyGica new players not selling as well as the R5, China consumer are looking beyond prices. As brands gets established, prices almost similar, people just goes for better brands.^^

edit: anyway back to HiMedia^^ This thread is about HiMedia players^^

noted with thanks..will try the subsequent update using the 'forced' method...

I've lost hope on getting firmware upgrade from TV manufacturer, LG and Philips are not good in that..both the LEDs that I bot haven't got any fw upgrade so far... hence I lost hope on the capability of TV playing media files and decided to go for a standalone media player...

ohh..btw..both Upnp and Network options found my media files in my laptop... icon_rolleyes.gif  I hopeful that NAS will do as well...coz I'm planning to get a NAS soon!
*
Sony is pretty ok, there's 2 firmwares out so far. But it only plays simple movies format and codecs >.<

HD600 should work with NAS, at least I think they'll try slove the problem if it can't^^

There's a guy over in HWZ SG forum who was getting pissed with the HD600A he bought. 3 problems for him, slow wifi, can't detect his 2tb hdd via sata and one of his hdds has conflict with the wifi. A few days later 2.2 came out, it fixed the 2TB HDD issue, then 2 days later he updated 2.3 it fixed his wifi/hdd problem. He seems pleased now^^ At least can have hope HiMedia support will fix the problem.

For my case it's the MK250 issue which is fixed (waited for 2+weeks)^^ Now left the unlisted youtube vid problem, I really hope they'll fix. Maplestage makes viewing those TW shows so much easier, but it needs youtube.

Hi,  tks for the info but how to explain this:
1 laptop can play PPS
2 HD600A cannot
Both connects to same router, same ISP.
*
I believe media player port/server is different from those connecting from PC.
