Is there any data plan specially for iPad?

So far cheapest i saw from Digi is RM68 per month
but iPhone is RM58 with talktime and 1GB data which is sufficient.

Im looking something below RM50 purely for iPad 3G
dont think will exceed 1GB data per month

buy iPhone 4 + 1GB data plan with voice Maxis for cheap RM100.

I'm sure you need a phone. iPhone 4 is good enough for everyday use.

Then tether your iPad with iPhone 4.

Maxis
Postpaid -iPad Plan Entry 3.5GB RM70
Prepaid iPad data Plans- RM70

Digi
DG Smart Plan- RM68 (Data Only)
iDigi Postpaid 88 -RM58 (Free voice calls+Data)

Maxis definitely too expensive.
WHat i dont understand is why iDigi is cheaper yet with voice and data.
Wherelse Smartplan is only with data but more expensive.

DiGi coverage is horrible in many parts of Klang Valley.

Why not uMobile prepaid? It is RM 28 per month of unlimited usage.

iDigi got quota. once exceed internet becomes slower.

RM58 is only if u apply for auto debit.
*
...and so Digi Smart Plan and Maxis data plans.

on Digi, you'll just get throttled speed beyond FUP quota. on maxis, you'll have to purchase additional quota upgrades.

Using Maxis Wireless Broadband SIM (cut to micro-SIM by the seller) in my iPad. RM48 for 512kbps max speed with 1.5GB quota.

http://www.maxis.com.my/personal/broadband/tss/index.asp

P/S I registered my account some months before Maxis brought down the speed for the package to 512kbps max. Till today I am still getting 2-3mbps download speeds so I am not complaining smile.gif

Digi is horrible? I find it acceptable. Celcom is worst if I remembered correctly. Maxis is better choice if you can keep your usage down.

i think RM 38 daily plan is reasonable for all nod.gif

Unless you want it to be uncapped , then i recommend RM 68 package

nevertheless , no extra quota charges makes you safe from overloading nod.gif

honestly, you can't hit 3GB by just going browsing internet unless you heavy on downloading stuff. don't forget that you will have wifi access and won't be using 3G all the time

Im using maxis rm70 per month as im always on the move during weekdays,so can only get wifi on weekends.when i use speedtest,i can get up to 3mbps.usually it would just stay at 2mbps with a 3g connection.i use around 3gb per month usually...

Looks like this 2 are the best option

http://www.digi.com.my/internet/broadband/...ntractfree.html
Digi RM38-5 (auto billing) RM33 per month
3GB Quota (Morning 700kbps, Night 128kbps)

Umobile RM28 per month
http://www.u.com.my/prepaid-packages/unlim...mobile-internet
Unlimited (14Mbps - 64kbps)

But seems like Digi is better choice due to their coverage, while Umobile capped the speed to 64kbps once u hit 500MB.

well, the 3g model comes with a 3g chip. i prefer that actually. and if u get the yes plan, you need to charge 2 devices, might as well just carry one device tongue.gif
or if u have iphone 4 no need lah, turn on the wireless tethering then done d.

hm..u got me there bro..thx for the advice..so i guess 3G would be the one for me then..so just need to decide which service provider provided better offer for the 3G.hmmm...still conpuse..

Been using Digi Smartplan nearly a year now, satisfied with it smile.gif only Rm68 per month on top of my normal call and sms bill

If I exceed 3GB limit, they just cut down the speed, no extra charge, If I'm not at home I turn my N8 to a hotspot to browse the net using my notebook

in KL the coverage is quite good, not to mention the speed

For Discover Day Plan RM38 :
* Average speed of 700kbps(d/l), 200kbps(u/l), from 7am-7pm.
* After 7pm, speed will be throttled to 128kbps and P2P will be blocked.

Alternatively, you can use DiGi Prepaid Internet (starter pack RM25 for 5 days data).

Depends how you use lo, 500MB maybe sound very less, but it also has 100 local minutes and 30 local SMS, although can't utilise with iPad 3G

im using DiGi Prepaid Broadband for my iPad.

this is the cheapest that i can found,
but, must topup rm100 at one time, so the credit will last for 100 days, which means rm1 per day.

but if topup only rm30, it will only last 5 days.

If you're on the move so much and need internet connection, I'll assume that you go out station a lot. If that's the case, pay more for Maxis. Not to say Digi is bad, is just that the connection in rural area is next to none... I know cause I'm using Digi now and I move around quite a lot too.

Oh! Just to share with you, I was previously a Maxis user and there's not a day I don't regret switching to Digi because of the frequent drop calls, delayed SMS and poor internet connection outside KL or any other big city. None the least, Digi has the cheapest service plan available when you do the maths, and you don't have to worry about over-shooting your 'quota', which can save you hundreds if you're a heavy user. Well, I guess we can't have all good things under the same roof right...?

U-mobile and Yes is too infant to be called a mobile data plan because their coverage is very limited. It restrict the 'area' that you'll be able to travel if you need data connection for your work. Trust me, the restriction is really maddening and I don't think they should call themselves high speed mobile data provider yet...

Celcom... is a mystery to me like the toilet sink to the plumber... sometimes their're good, sometimes their're just... not there... I think it's the frequent breakdown of their cellular network that causes the problem. GL company like TM or celcom has very bad maintenance record (ask all those Streamyx user) and I guess this should be the only reason why this phenomena happened so often. Otherwise, I would think that it should have an upper hand agains Digi.

Well, my 2 cents opinion and my conclusion; pay more for Maxis coverage. Get Digi if you're an al'cheapo like me. The rest can just kiss your ass and remember to wave your hand when you see them passing by... at least for this moment...

im using DiGi Prepaid Broadband for my iPad.

this is the cheapest that i can found,
but, must topup rm100 at one time, so the credit will last for 100 days, which means rm1 per day.

but if topup only rm30, it will only last 5 days.
*
Is it juz top up RM100 and digi will change the period to 100days? Got any limit on speed?

Correct me if I'm wrong,

Discovery day = RM 38 /RM 33 (auto billing)
7am - 7pm = 700kbps
7pm - 7am = 128kbps(just normal browsing)
Capped @ 3GB

&

Limited edition prepaid = RM 100 (3 months) = RM 33.33 per month
24hrs = 384kbps
No quota, unlimited usage?

If that area isn't under 3G coverage, it will automatically revert back to GPRS/EDGE, yes it's slow but at least you will still remain connected to the Internet. smile.gif

I'm using celcom RM 48 package, it is still acceptable.
At first I want to take digi de, but when I go back kelantan, digi line is suck.
If you just stayin kl and less go outstation, digi is the best choice.

I think the Digi Limited Edition Prepaid Internet have 3GB/month quota, after that it slows down, but its the cheapest plan with no commitment other then the 100days. If you don't reload after it expires your line will still have grace period of 90days for your to reload to keep your line active.

u-mobile have very small quota of 500MB/month that if exceed it will slow down to 64kbps (dail-up modem speed). If you see youtube you can easily exceed 500MB

Nope, so the only way to use Yes 4G on an iPad is to get their Huddle device and use the iPad to connect to it via WiFi.

Am using Digi RM38 for 3G of data, speed reduced to 128K after work. Works perfect for me. Auto pay by credit card rebate RM5, so balance RM33 to be paid monthly.

Actually it's not too bad to go on credit as well if you're a light user. For Yes 4G, every month you will need to reload RM30 of credit to keep your account active and after calculating, RM30 is almost equivalent to about 1GB of usage. If you don't need so much bandwidth then can actually consider Yes 4G as well. Only drawback is that you will need to get the Huddle device which retails at RM399. Also suitable for iPads with WiFi only.

Which plan has > 700 kbps?

I'm using DiGi smart plan lite. I just get E coverage in my home, my office, and my parent's home. Sucks. All the H places are in between. Really annoying. I keep wanting to switch to Maxis, but all of Maxis plans will double or triple my monthly phone bill (I have a supp line). umobile and celcom... no confidence in their coverage, lol.

Any good prepaid plans to consider that might cost less for a light user?

Just sign Digi RM38 plan. Need to pay RM30 if don't want the modem. You can ask for the micro Sim with no additional cost. Also no contract for this plan.

Ok... I sign for the digi prepaid limited edition pack...

They told me is 100mb per day quote

So I paid 25 for the pack and 25 for upgrade micro sim and 5 days access

Work like a charm now... Online with my iPad 2 now

For top up take rm100 for 100 days...

Remember to top up only when ur data expired if not will burn the previos remaining day

So far I think this is the most worth plan

My location is mmu Melaka and running 3G

So I paid 25 for the pack and 25 for upgrade micro sim and 5 days access

Work like a charm now... Online with my iPad 2 now

For top up take rm100 for 100 days...

Remember to top up only when ur data expired if not will burn the previos remaining day

So far I think this is the most worth plan

My location is mmu Melaka and running 3G
*
Why not just get the micro sim package straight away? I got it for RM25 in Digi online store...

Yup , they will charge if you use after the quota exceeded

Im using Digi RM 58 plan right now smile.gif

Happy with it as I will never exceed 3GB of quota usage sweat.gif

I'll probably use less than 1GB/ month, but sometimes to avoid being charge unnecessarily, good to know if they dont charge us even if we exceed 3.5 gb, who knows sometimes we accidently stream some videos....

so anyone else can confirm whether maxis will charge us upon exceeding the 3.5gb quota/month?

good one azerak, but come to think of it:-

24. What happens when I exceed my quota? - "Your speed will be throttled down"

Bear in mind, they mentioned that the speed will be reduced significantly only, but they did not say whether they will still charge us or not? Maybe speed is lowered but we'll still be charged? I think it'll be clear if they state "Your speed will be throttled down with no extra charges upon exceeding"

i already called maxis.the customer service has CONFIRMED that they wont charge you extra, just lower speed.the maximum speed before being throttled down is 7.2mbps while the maximum speed after throttled down is 3.6mbps which is still good.im getting 2-3mbps right now so i guess if im being throttled down it will still be around 1-1.5mbps,which is alot better than 700kbps.hope that helps smile.gif

Confirmed that the max speed for the Maxis rm70/mth is 7.2 mbps?
DiGi's Discover RM 68/mth is only at 700 kbps max......

If that's the case, no point going for digi right?

that is the max speed though there are alot of factors to be considered before you can actually get 7.2mbps.the most that i could get is 4mbps,which u can see in the previous page of this thread.that is my point, its better to add rm2 to get better speed as maxis doesnt charge extra if u go beyond the monthly quota.for me,maxis is good for ipad, while digi is good for phone as im using digi for my phone.both very worth it for the specific tool thumbup.gif

I tried using over my bandwidth on maxis, and when they say throttled down, it really means so. I can't even get any page to load properly..(even their mylaunchpad website). So I doubt when it is throttled down, u can still get 1-1.5mbps. More like 56k modem speed or worst.

Cheers

But "barely 1mb" is still better than digi's max 700 kb, lol. DiGi is only worth it if you take Discover Day instead it seems. But rm 70 is still quite steep.... lol. Too bad neither have payment-per-use style like YES. For light user, YES is quite cheap, downside is high upfront payment.

1 curious question, when we are talking about exceeding quota, should we look at the 'sent' or 'received' data in usage column?

Another noob question here, why my iPad seems to be abit different than my iPhone where I don't see the 'enable 3G' button while I see it in my iPhone? Sry I'm new at using iPad...:/

U should look at both sent n received.but its easier if u go to mylaunchpad if u use maxis to have a look at ur quota...

Im not sure as i dont use an iphone.from ipad, just go to setting.cellular data to switch off the signal.or use airplane modw which switches off both 3g n wifi..

Actually if you are a maxis customer longer than a year, you can take their normal broadband package of rm48 for 3gb, cut the sim card and use it on your iPad smile.gif however, I believe the speed. Is 3.6mb and you have to pay if exceeded 3gb.

Been using this for a while and no complains so far on speed and usability

I really regret switching to digi last year doh.gif should've stayed with maxis. All the places I'm usually at, DiGi only has edge coverage - unstable some more - keep switching from E to H, then back. If only maxis offered Desire HD instead of Desire Z. Oh well. Now I just wait until maxis got a good plan, then switch back!

I dont use celcom so cant really comment.but from the basic plan,rm48 for a quota of 1gb,with a 384kbps speed is really a turn off for me.but celcom has huge coverage,if u dont use the 3g much but travels alot and needs to use 3g once in a while, its good enough.

Maybe u just need to cut the sim card.Or u can request to change to micro sim for rm25.max is 3.6mbps for download.just remember that as it is prepaid,if the time validity expires, the balance of quota which is unused will be forfeited.

Got the rm58 maxis wbb wit no modem option.
maxis also offer no modem package. It will rebate the rm100 reg fee so technically there is no upfront fee.

The shop cut to minisim foc.

After read thru all comments, I decided to give Maxis iPad prepaid plan a try. Will activate it later. The starter sim pack cost RM70 (with 3.5GB data and 30 days validity period). I thought it comes with micro SIM but NOT. Need to ask the Maxis folk to cut it for me. To those interested, pls look for Maxis Centre. I asked few MEPs, either they don't know about the plan or they don't have stock.

Before this, I have considered both Maxis and Digi prepaid plan but Digi coverage at my area is not good. Also the DL/UL speed is slower than Maxis plan.

Shall see if Maxis live up to what they claimed.

I tether iPad with my phone and i'm a really light user, i use my iPad when I'm out mostly during weekends. So I'm currently using a Hotlink prepaid pass of 2 weeks which comes with only 100MB. More than enough for me based on my usage. biggrin.gif

Maxis postpaid plan RM70 for 3.5GB for iPad. Any extra charges when we exceed the 3.5GB? Heard that they will only slow down, do they extra charge it ?

For DiGi Discovery Day RM38 for 3GB quota. Speed will only be lower down when it's after 7pm right ? They won't stop the service once we exceed the monthly quota ?

Using Speedtest.net to test the DL/UL speed for Maxis iPad prepaid plan today.

DL = 1.7 to 2.1 Mbps
UL = 0.18 to 0.22 Mbps
Signal Strength = 3 - 4 Bars

I hope other Maxis/Digi/Celcom subscriber can share DL/UL speed on your iPad. This will be a great info for other potential subscriber.

If got other better than Maxis prepaid plan, I will jump ship. No contract brows.gif

I get roughly around 1-2mbps on average. Upload not that great, if I'm not wrong was about 100-200kbps.

Which area you use it in? Indoors? DiGi's coverage is actually quite weak and unstable for the areas that I frequent, so most likely, it's just that DiGi's coverage sucks.

The easiest way to confirm is to look for someone else with DiGi's data plan and compare lor. Or test it out in other places you don't normally go to.

i have been using for several weeks.
Did not go more than 2.5 Mbps.

well, it is the ipad data postpaid plan.
from the faq, it does mention 7.2 Mbps (download) and 1.2 Mbps (upload).
But as i have said, I never experience anything close to those claimed speed.
Even upload is only 0.2+ Mbps only.

if Maxis 7.2 Mbps plan can get only 2Mbps (on average). How about those Digi prepaid plan with 384kbps?

actually 2Mbps is good enough for my normal usage (youtube, internet radio, Email and internet surfing)

i am not sure about DiGi, so better check with those using it.

however although Maxis speedtest shows 2 Mbps, i feel my home streamyx of 1.5 Mbps is faster and smoother in terms of browsing.
maybe due to high ping.. always in the range of 150 ms or so.

Yea, the ping somehow gives you an impression that the wireless broadband is slower. Actually in terms of speed, if your wireless broadband is already hitting 2mbps, it's already fast and can match your Streamyx. However because of the higher ping, you don't get the "once click then load" experience. laugh.gif

Unless you are heavy user, otherwise Maxis prepaid is better plan. Top up when you need it.

Postpaid and Prepaid also about the same. RM70/month vs RM70/30 days based on 3.5GB quota.

I am using Digi postpaid plan RM 38/ per month and RM 5 rebate if using credit card auto payment. For light user for me is good enough and i think this is the cheapest around in the market at the moment .

I am using Digi postpaid plan RM 38/ per month and RM 5 rebate if using credit card auto payment. For light user for me is good enough and i think this is the cheapest around in the market at the moment .

I'm using discovery day plan as well. Have anyone encounter sometimes it doesn't read the sim card. Twice a week. I have to take out and insert again.

Another complaint is after 7pm damn slow.

You're correct. I called to ask them this before. You'll get the RM10 rebate if you got an iphone with ivalue from them.

I bought a 3G version because I do not own iphone 4 or any phone that able to act a wifi HotSpots and I travel to places that rarely have any free wifi access and I do not subscribe to any broadband at home nor I live nearby any complexes that have free wifi access.

A Mifi will probably costs around RM 400 just as the extra cost of a 3G version , so 3G comes naturally my first option without the hassle of carrying any device just to get the Ipad online .

Digi discovery plan > RM 38 per month and RM 5/= rebate if use c/card auto payment.

This plan is not suitable for heavy user but is the cheapest but of course compromise on the speed lor.

So 3 monts bills of discovery plan is about the same RM 100/= and if I am not wrong the speed of prepaid package is slower and I am using the postpaid discovery plan will have monthly bills so definitely can claim tax relief up to maximum RM 500/= but how you are going to claim your prepaid 3G internet.

i had just bought that digi prepaid internet and let the guy there cut my simcard..

so far so good (in terms of connection) and the good thing is that you can topup using other phone which means you don't have to take that sim out from the ipad.. if you topup RM100, it'll last for 100 days, which means Rm1 per day, sounds reasonably good enough for me.. but if and only if you topup RM100.. else, you do the math..

Reload Validity
RM10 - 2 days data access
RM30 - 10 days data access
RM50 - 25 days data access
RM100 - 100 days data access

if there is no 3g, you'll be connected with EDGE.. Anyway, have you checked on the availability of any telco that have 3g? Better go to 3g for speed, coz EDGE can be very slow to moderate only.. and it still depends on carrier.. might not satisfy you then..

I'm a bit blur on prepaid data plans and how it works. Some plans state 30-day limit. So what happens when 30 days expire? It means I can't use it anymore. How long can I wait before reloading? But what if I don't reload? Will I permanently lose access? Can I reload 1 day, then don't reload until months later when I need it?

Yeah day discovery has 700kbps in the morning and after 7pm throttled to 128kbps. This prepaid is 384kbps whole day. Lets see how bad is 384kbps hehhe.

Yup, I just signed up today. At night, I tested the 128kbps speed. Very bad. Browsing extremely slow, AppStore tells me I'm not connected doh.gif blink.gif

But since I got the plan becos I only need it during the day, it's fine for me. At night is wifi.

Digi Discovery is almost useless at night as the Edge is too slow until time out. You will feel the internet is not working at all.
For those who will need 3G at night better stay away for Digi Discover Day

Added on June 8, 2011, 8:51 amHi For those using Limited Edition Prepaid Internet.

HOw was the speed? It mentions Download speeds of up to 384kbps .
How is this compare to Discovery Day ?
Egde is how fast?

Good choice, me terbalik, I need more speed at night during the yum char session. Not yet test the 384kbps, if it is same as the Discovery Day 128kbps then potong the sim card hehehe

But since I got the plan becos I only need it during the day, it's fine for me. At night is wifi.

i had just bought that digi prepaid internet and let the guy there cut my simcard..

so far so good (in terms of connection) and the good thing is that you can topup using other phone which means you don't have to take that sim out from the ipad.. if you topup RM100, it'll last for 100 days, which means Rm1 per day, sounds reasonably good enough for me.. but if and only if you topup RM100.. else, you do the math..

Reload Validity
RM10 - 2 days data access
RM30 - 10 days data access
RM50 - 25 days data access
RM100 - 100 days data access
*
i am using the digi prepaid broadband which activated b4 this new scheme, rm10 can use 5 days not bad.

but top up rm100 for 100 days data access it is very cheap actually. good deal. very cheap indeed.

Don't mind get a reading from www.speedtest.net on the downloading speed?

no it is not slow at all, was using it all the time. the speed is reasonable even after the fair quota use up.

it is not bad for the prepaid 384kbps speed definitely.

Is it possible to have 2 sim cards for 1 line? Digi user here. If I cut into micro then cannot use for my BlackBerry which is my primary gadget. If cannot then I might as well just get a WiFi only iPad 2.

Digi speed slow at 384kbps but ok for surfing web pages.

Another factor when choosing the network is to know which will perform best on the areas you frequently use your iPad at. Maxis works for me at most of the places I visit frequently except for some which can be frustratingly slow. sweat.gif

At first myself don't wanna get maxis. Even after reaching my quota, the speed is still faster than digi >< perhaps my area, Digi coverage not that good compare to maxis.

yes. The speed from 7pm - 7am really terrible. If you really need to surf using 3g at night, its better you get a different plan. nod.gif

Found out something today. I reloaded RM100 for the digi prepaid broadband and yes the date is like 100 days validity. I plug the card into a phone to get the digi OCS to work and it showing a deduction of RM5 per day. Meaning by the 20th day it would be RM0.00

Called the Digi CS and they say RM5 per day but the 100 days still valid, so even by the 20th days my credit = RM0, still can use internet till the 100th days. hmmmm anyone can confirm this?

i am using digi internet prepaid also for my galaxy tab & ipad2.... sad to said the coverage was suck. speed is ok for me, average speed i got was around 376Kb. day/night also around this figure.

as for the coverage.... haiz... at company my digi signal is superb...but i rather plug to company wifi as it mush more faster... when reach home signal sometimes with to h sometimes was E..... at kitchen no signal at all.... luckily at master room still got H signal and can surf net on the bed....

planning to swith but so far yet to find any plan that is cheaper but better then digi.... i am from klang..

Yes is out as there is no sim card.else i would go for it. i data usage for 1 day is around 30mb only... 1 months i think 1gb is enough for me. if go for Yes, only Rm30/monthly...why yes does not want to provide a sim card service???!!

if maxis also can offer rm1/day for tablet...then i switch smile.gif

Added on June 21, 2011, 4:41 pmby the way, any 1 try purchase from forumer that selling cheap data plan at low yat forum? some offer few months data plan but only rm140+-.... looks kind if worth it.... any terms and condition? i can only saw hotlink data plan but nvr saw got celcom data plan....

Yup, I can confirm this too. Don't bother trying to use this after 7pm. The speed is incredibly slow. Try to load a webpage oso have to refresh a few times - time out very easily due to slow speed.

Umobile RM28 prepaid plan with 500MB quota, 100min voice call and 30 SMS. Best plan for lite users. Why need an extra sim card? iPhone and Android can do mobile hotspot. MyWi automatically connects ur iPad to ur iPhone whenever u use ur iPad and disconnect when u r not using. Only disadvantage is the coverage.

As a heavy user of this rm68 smartplan, I believe this smartplan dont hve max use of GB data usage (limit until they throttle your speed) , as for the ipad data plan, you have the 500mb/2gb max use of data options...

hmm.gif im now still very happy with my smartplan, no complaint icon_rolleyes.gif

Newgal it depends on your location's signal. Most of the places I am in got 4 of 5 bar signal and the speed for surfing is acceptable to me. You can buy the prepaid at rm25 and try for 5 days, if not good can just junk it. Hehe

I want to apply for Digi broadband RM38 monthly using my wife's name but when I went to Digi centre to apply, they said my wife HAVE to and MUST be there in person to apply.

I brought along my wife's photostate IC to apply also cannot.

Anyone there know who can do the application for me WITHOUT my wife come along? She is not free to come along with me la.

Anyone is doing that, please PM me, thanks.

to apply for a new card, it think it's security issue they just cannot simply trust you on that. but to amend your plan services, it's easy, with p/c ic and authorization letter will do.

BTW, what's the prepaid option can i get for Data Plan solely for iPad in malaysia? I do not want to sign up a monthly postpaid plan as i am constantly on the run to oversea. i just want a prepaid will do.

So I subscribed to the Maxis Postpaid Broadband (the on with the USB modem and all) yesterday for my laptop internet connection. I thought, such a hassle to get a different broadband subscription for the iPad.

So.. Can it work if I cut the SIM into a MicroSIM size and insert it into the iPad? Can the iPad get internet connection?

Nothing to HIDE.

The reason is to register using my wife's name is for Income Tax deduction purpose.

I have already using my name for the Streamyx Broadband at home.

So, in order to use the RM500 per year Income Tax deduction for both me and my wife to declare, so, register using different name la.

I know you all very rich, RM500 declaration is nothing to all of you, right??? Hehe biggrin.gif icon_rolleyes.gif Sorry, just joking.

For me, declare whatever that can allow so that can minimize the TAX to pay for those corrupted people out there managing the country !!!

Thanks.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to ask a couple of things :

I just got an iPad 2 3G,I currently need a data plan n was wondering if this would work.

Can I sign up for d Celcom iPhone Plan @ Celcom Exec i98 @ rm98 per month with 2GB Data Per Month and use it on my iPad?

But just to clarify should I exceed the 2GB Data Per Month am I charged any extra?

Coz I called the Celcom Customer Service and the Cust Svc did not have any idea or even know that if I could use it on an Ipad.

I plan to use it on both my iPad n the iPhone 4 as an Secondary Office Line.

Pls advise accordingly?

Thanks.

Cheers.

You want to keep pulling your sim in and out of ipad and iphone ah? It works lah, but... personally, I rather put it in and leave it there. Don't want to open and close cover, pulling out and pushing in sim card all the time. Use your iphone to tether la.

I'm using U Mobile for my ipad2. Seriously, speed is tremendously fast. As long as is within the coverage and im consistently getting 2mbps and above. My area of use, klang, subang and KL. No problem at all.! BUT, only 1 laid back which is.... u cant! use appstore... is loading very SLOW!!! ...almost unusable. I called them up and was told that Umobile does not have iphone contract with them, therefore they don't get the 'direct' access to appstore. But overall i am still very happy. smile.gif

If you dont mind paying 1 ringgit per day regardless of usage, then buy a Digi unlimited internet pack, it cost rm25 and u can use for 5 days, ask the ppl where you buy the pack to cut it into micro sim for you. After that top up 100 ringgit and you will get 100 days of usage. Make sure you top up using coupon only. The guy at the hpshop say flexiload doesnt work for this plan. You can altermnate between a mifi and ipad as long as you keep the piece that was cut out and when you need to put it into a modem with mini sim card, just assemble it back. I am using this configuration now and it works flawlessly.the limit is around 100 mb per day and the speed is 512kbps .Excess usage will be throttled. No extra charge.

The only downside i see is that you need to top up 100 ringgit to get 1 ringgit per day deal. If you pay rm50, you only get 25 days usage.pay 10 you only gat 2 days.

You can go to any store to buy normal Digi reload. Minimum top up is Rm10 for 2 days only lah.
Use your BB, dial the digi top up number on the sim pack and follow instructions from answering machine.

I am letting go of my Digi Prepaid Unlimited activated before March. So my daily rate is only RM2 drool.gif
Last reload was Sunday, so the account still active. Just now I went to confirm with Digi Center, they say it will remain at RM2 per day.
Anybody want to take it? PM me. I no longer need it.

No. The old packs do not allow RM100 for 100 days.
Prepaid is for people who want to save money and have low usage. Especially those who has wifi at home.
It is good when traveling once in a while. All you need to do is reload RM10 every 3 months to keep the number active.

You can buy reloads ahead of time and load only when you need to use. It is very fast, within 3 minutes I can go online again.

Not sure on that but I believe there is a minimum u need to reload. But to be honest, why do need to ask this question? Since if u don't reload you can't go online or use the sim card to access the net with ur iPad.

Maybe I should rephrase the question, what I mean is will Maxis cancel the sim card if I didn't reload in a certain period?
For example certain Hotlink plan if you don't reload every 90 days, your number will be cancelled and you have to get a new sim pack.

EDIT: Just called Hotlink CS. Top up is required within 90 days after the validity period to keep the sim card active.

Although you have misunderstood calvin's question,i'd like to correct some of your statement..with maxis prepaid plan,u can view your current balance of both the subscription(internet) and the hotlink prepaid(simcard itself) in the maxis broadband website..The most important thing for maxis prepaid plan is,even your INTERNET subscription expired, there WILL ALWAYS BE a balance of RM1.00 in the SIMCARD..when INTERNET is expired, you can't surf all internet addresses EXCEPT for maxis broadband website(required to surf this site everytime u connect to maxis 3G connection in the iPad,in order to surf the net freely)

In my case,when my ipad SIMCARD only have RM1.00,i top it up using Post-Aid topup from my iphone 4(also maxis) with a minimum of RM10..so,my balance is RM11.00..now,in order to surf the net from my ipad,i need to on the 3G,open safari,go to maxis broadband site, n go to 'buy subscription'..the are lots of option there whether u want;

2 hour pass=RM3=100mb(i think),
1 day pass=RM8=500mb(my favourite if need heavy download)
2 days pass=RM10=500m(i think)
7 days pass(don't know the usage n rate)
etc

So,let say i buy the 2 hours pass, maxis will deduct it from my SIMCARD,with the balance now is RM8..the next time i want to surf the net,i just go to maxis broadband site,n buy subscription again..it's that easy..So far, maxis 3G connection never fails me,n its fast too nod.gif

QUOTE(c_calvin @ Jul 20 2011, 02:21 PM)
Maybe I should rephrase the question, what I mean is will Maxis cancel the sim card if I didn't reload in a certain period?
For example certain Hotlink plan if you don't reload every 90 days, your number will be cancelled and you have to get a new sim pack.

EDIT: Just called Hotlink CS. Top up is required within 90 days after the validity period to keep the sim card active.

Your info is what I've been looking for.

Maxis iPad starter pack for RM70 bought in early June so that I can use in home town. So the validity was until 2 July 2011. After the expiry, I didn't reload as I was using Streamyx/WIFI at home. Only last weekend when I went back to home town that I tried to reload. As it was my first time reloading, I tried with RM10 through Maybank Instant Prepaid Reload. To my horror, the RM10 was not credited. So I tried again with another RM10 Maybank Prepaid with PIN. Still the reload was not accepted.

No choice but to call Maxis. Was told the line de-activated and will take 2-3 days to re-activate it. This morning received a call from Maxis that the line is now activated. Will need to go home tonight and test out.

Actually I'm sure many who owns an iPad would have a smartphone as well. Nowadays smart phones are capable of being an own personal hotspot so it would be more cost-effective to tether with the phone. I think many data plans out there are pretty costly which is why I chose not to maintain another data plan and just tether with my phone (so just bought the WiFi version as well). laugh.gif

I use my ipad1 cukup... 1 full day.. 5am till 8pm then charge. (usually by that time, left 15% batt. And I'm on 3G the whole day7

iPhone original (v1) now just become phone only. iPhone 5... Maybe I'll pass.

Hi all,

From the DIGI Link: DIGI 3G Internet

Just read the t&c and got few question here:
1. DIGI said the internet access will be suspended, but what i have read on previous post that DIGI will only capped the speed rclxub.gif
QUOTE
NOTE:
• DiGi's Fair Usage Policy applies. Upon reaching your monthly usage quota of 300MB, your Internet access will be suspended till the following month.
2. Do DIGI provide the miniSIM for IPad or need to cut ourself. sweat.gif

But overall i am still very happy. smile.gif
*
I'm facing the same problem as u. Extremely slow loading & dloadng from the apple app store. Both on my ipad2 n iphone. I am subscribed to the UB68 package. Other than that, speeds are superb. What they told regarding umobile not having a direct connection to apple is crap i think. Hope they can repair this in time.

Anyone else having the same issue?

I have been spending 1 hour reading through the comments and the more I read the more confuse i get rclxub.gif

Can someone please guide me? I currently having my ipad 2, and staying at Kuala Lumpur, Kuchai Lama, the coverage from Digi seems ok same goes to maxis, but at the same time I am currently using the Maxis ipad plan which cost me RM70 per month with 3.5g which i do not think i can fully utilize all of the data.

I am not a heavy user myself because i do have internet access from the Wifi from streamyx when I am home. At the same time I do have a Digi prepaid sim card which currently have more than RM300+ in balance (from birthday top up tongue.gif ) so does it means that i can actually trim my current Digi prepaid card to the same size as the Microsim card as well and able to enjoy RM100 for 100 days it is? hmm.gif

and if excluding the coverage issue, which do you all think it is worth it in terms of speed and price? icon_question.gif

Thanks in advance ya notworthy.gif

I just found out that my iPad 2 got a 3G Sim card slot and am wondering whether to take up a plan. Like someone said, getting more confuse after reading thru some of the posts here.

Got only 1 question for the sifus.

Is there a plan where I can buy whenever I need?

I don't want a monthly committed plan but I do want a Sim card where I can purchase the data when I needed without having to reactivate, call customer service, etc. Also the purchase of data should be easy (eg just make a phone call and activate instantaneously or alternatively, the sim card still goes to the provider's homepage and I can top up then).

Im looking for a plan for my ipad2 as well. So far the most attractive plan that i see is from umobile.

Either go with prepaid unlimited for 28/month or u40.

My only concern is abt the u40 charges after exceeding quota. Will call them up tomorrow to verify. If no extra charges, most likely i will go with u40.

Wow, thats pretty good! Can you show me where I can get more details in this prepaid unlimited plan? Any contract and deposit? What's the data usage quota?

I'm currently using Digi's iPad plan lite, speeds are good, very stable and coverage is excellent for the places I go to. Trouble is, the 500MB quota is used up in no time at all! sad.gif

Don't use Tunetalk.. I'm currently using it for my iPad 1 32GB 3G and the speed is SOOOO slow even on a 3G network. Apps refuse to load and sometimes crash. Bought a 500MB per month Hotlink number from Andyzz for RM85 and expiring end of this year. Anyone using Hotlink at the moment? I'm wondering how Maxis will charge for surplus usage of data.

Any umobile prepaid RM28 Unlimited internet users here?
Do u know how much they charge for multisim?
I'm using sim card for my phone and wish to request for another simcard for my ipad 2.

I read someone mention about using MyWi on ipad to share mobile internet connection. Is this only for iPad 3G version or can also be used on iPad Wifi version?

i am using the rm28 package, but as far as i know they dont have multisim lah.

anyway their simpack is cheap at RM8 with RM5credit, or if you buy RM30 topup from their website, you get a new simpack FREE! so, you can keep your regular call sim in your phone and use a separate sim just for ipad data.

further no more problem having to plug in or out the simcard for reload, check balance and purchase data package. (umobile rm28 package is auto renewal, just make sure you topup before the auto-renew kick in) if your ipad 3g already jailbroken. just download QueryUSSD from cydia and you can use USSD command *118# already. thumbup.gif

yes. i have unlimited data on my main line. initially wanted to install phoneitipad on my underused ipad 3g, but procrastinated. now cannot JB 4.3.3 already. so i plugged my main line into the ipad for mobile data but family & fren complain they cant call me although i can still send & receive sms using swirly.

so the main line go back to my phone and bought a umobile sim for their rm28 package. considered as the cheapest since i dont use that ipad much anyway. after all what is rm28 lah? 2 simple meals already habis.

for your situation i still think umobile is the best option. after raya if dowan use, just throw away lah... i've used and thrown plenty of sim cards from all telcos after trying out their services. if you want i still have one hotlink microsim still on my table. no more credit - i'll just give it away. just topup on your own and buy their data package lor. otherwise i think i'll just throw it again when i clean up my room.

by the way, i saw celcom broadband got RM38.00 per month, no contract, i think got 1gb data allowance. at least celcom coverage is better than u-mobile.

i am using the rm28 package, but as far as i know they dont have multisim lah.

anyway their simpack is cheap at RM8 with RM5credit, or if you buy RM30 topup from their website, you get a new simpack FREE! so, you can keep your regular call sim in your phone and use a separate sim just for ipad data.

further no more problem having to plug in or out the simcard for reload, check balance and purchase data package. (umobile rm28 package is auto renewal, just make sure you topup before the auto-renew kick in) if your ipad 3g already jailbroken. just download QueryUSSD from cydia and you can use USSD command *118# already. thumbup.gif

BRO UR THE BEST! now i dont have the hassle to open the simcard everitime wanna reload, thanks! rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

well for me i try not to use physical buttons. any moving parts are bound to fail after wear and tear - the most famous is the home button bcoz thats the most used button on ipad/iphone/ipod touch.

i set "double tap on status bar" for USSD, "left to right swipe" for a single home press and "tap and hold status bar" for home button double press. with that, i hardly use the home button unless if i'm in apps that couldnt show the status bar.

what are you confused about? just post your Q and i'll try explain what i know.

Umobile :
Pro - this is the cheapest prepaid data package i can find. RM28 1 month, 500MB allowance. if exceed, speed capped (but you still can surf.). whole day usage.
Cons - coverage so-so, if not because of celcom, umobile can gulung tikar.

Digi:
Pro - RM38 forgot how much is the allowance, but if exceed, speed capped. Coverage in KL is good.
Cons - Package only valid during Day time. 7am-7pm rite? i lazy to Google. or you can take RM68 package for 3GB and whole day usage. Data Coverage is poor out of KL.

Celcom:
Pro - RM48 (celcom broadband), 1GB data allowance, speed cap if exceed. whole day usage.
Cons - Data Allowance low for the RM you paid. I personally use Unlimited Data for my main line, RM68 for 5GB allowance. (better than Digi in many aspects)

Maxis : is the most expensive and pariah data package and i wont bother write it here. (but some other users like it becoz of the coverage and speed, but caveat is, diff user diff experience.) and i'm saying this although i am a maxis ex-staff.

Tunetalk : i forgot how it is since i tried it a few years back when they first started and they dont have data package then. now i dono and dowan to try.

unlimited internet access means that u can surf as long as u like, nt like sum operator after exceed the QUOTA, u need to topup to continue surfing the net...500MB allowance is the QUOTA, b4 u reach 500 MB, the speed is very very fast but after that u will b throttled and ur speed bcom slower bt still u can surt d net.....

roaming allows users of operator A to tap onto operator B's network provided they have agreement to allow shared network. In this case, umobile have a contract with celcom to use celcom's network wherever umobile is unable to build their tower. Of course umobile would have to pay to celcom for using their networks... Sorta like rental lah.

Back to your question, if you read the instruction manual that comes with umobile simpack, you'll find one sentence that tells you to switch it on so your device will tap to available celcom's 3g network if umobile doesnt have 3g at that location. For me, so far so good. If i'm going overseas, i only use wifi la... Wat for switch on mobile data?

plug it back into the original sim frame, cellophane tape.

hey guys,

i plan to get an iPad in the near future. it will definitely be with 3G. now just thinking which telco i shud go over. hopefully it will be below RM30. also postpaid will be great, bcos i dont want to worry that my credit will run out. i think 500mb/month is sufficient for me, bcos most of the places i go to will have wifi. the 3G is only for those transition moments where ill be traveling etc.

will prepaid be more suitable for my usage? advice needed. cheers!

I'm using maxis 3g for my iPad. Great speed. I took the lowest one 3.5GB throttled speed per month exceeding 3.5GB then slower speeds that's it. So basically it's unlimited, ppstream speeds reached up to 250KB/s man, damn fast.

Your Sales Person DO NOT KNOW anything at all..........he/she is pulling your leg.

There are many ways to topup. You can also use other handphone with other line such as maxis/celcom to top up. See the instructions given in the digi prepaid internet small booklet. I have done all these and able to top up without take out the sim card.

YES, I can use CIMB online banking to top up...........BUT make sure you key in the CORRECT digi prepaid card number. If you key in wrongly, SORRY, no refund, you will waste the RM100 just like that.

However, there is NO AUTO TOPUP in the CIMB online banking. I am not sure there is or not, but somehow I did not notice it at all.

You can also buy the topup slip at 7 Eleven store and topup just like any prepaid topup. Just see the instructions in the booklet.

Yes, you can put your digi sim in any handphone to test out.

Mine digi prepaid is also the micro-sim card and I put it the original slot from the sim card and slot into the phone to test it first.

Or else, maybe you get some expert to do for you.

Thanks victorwan. Will dig out the small booklet

I probably should have not bought 3g version of iPad.. already nearly 3 weeks and didn't even use 3g function at all. So I am leaving the deactivated sim card in iPad first and only activate it when it is going to be cancelled.

I tried using U Mobile prepaid broadband in Cameron Highlands and got no signal at all.

They only pinjam Celcom 2G by local roaming it seems (my phone will show R). When I try to use the broadband (2G Edge) in this mode it is so slow even RSS reader cannot show new items when I scroll down.

Useless. I ported to Celcom today. I suggest if you are not in KL area do not use U Mobile.

Umobile is only excellent if you're in KL area. i can easily get 4mbps constantly, but with that, my monthly limit of 500mb was used up within 1 day. now kena capped for 2 weeks already... only get 200kbps at max. dayummmm....

strange. The guy at the maxis store said that their prepaid plan is similar to prepaid call plan. Once u bought the 30 days plan you have to finish it in 30 days or else all will be gone.

try Digi Internet Prepaid RM 25 for 5 days
Reload:
RM 10 = 2 days
RM 30 = 10 days
RM 50 = 25 days
RM 100 for 100 days means RM 1 per day.

Quota = 100mb per day, 1 month 3gb if not mistaken. exceed then slow down

Currently using it, very satisfy with the speed, certain area may be very slow, but mostly area i went is 3G signal with top speed.

Yup. Im using same as you also. Always top up rm100 for 100 days. Cheaper and worth it. Satisfied with the speed and coverage since i live in KL. No problem at all. The problem is when i go back home town. No line but nevermind coz my house got wifi. tongue.gif

Guys, anyone experience this with their maxis prepaid broadband, my subscription for 30 days ended today and the web portal pops up asking me to topup before can use further, the thing is, the number displayed is not my sim card number and the previously bought subscription history is all not mine. What should i do now? Top up to my simcard number or topup to the number displayed?

Bring your simcard and ask the CS at Maxis Centres what number it is tagged to. (tel no is referred as "MSISDN")

Can also give them a call.

due to service outage 2 weeks ago, umobile is giving compensation.

every 10th of the month for November, December and January, umobile is giving unlimited free SMS to all telco.

for those with data plan active, extra 500MB will be added on top of the plan quota.

i dont know if it's really given because although i received their SMS, when i checked my Free SMS counter, they still deduct. mana ada free?

Can anyone tell me whats the current best prepaid plan for iPad? Preferably the best coverage because I'm going to use it around the country. I have asked maxis klcc about the prepaid plan for iPad today but they said the prepaid plan has discontinued. But the flyer they gave me still contain then info about the prepaid plan. So the prepaid plan for maxis is discontinued or I can still buy it at other maxis MEP store and what's the current best plan for my criteria other than maxis?

Go for uMobile postpaid la.. The coverage is great within Klang Valley, while it will roam using Celcom when there's no uMobile coverage. Celcom is well known for their great coverage biggrin.gif Price is RM28/month for 500Mb(so far they din keep track, to attract more customer i guess) + 6% Gov. Charge. = RM29.68 only for 1 month(30days).

I have just subscribe digi iPad plan but don't know what plan is that. Rm58 per month for 2gb only. Quite expensive as I just try it out cos no contract with it. The speed can reach 1mbps by using speed test. Do anyone what kind of plan I'm using?
