I figure your 1/1250 shutter speed should be more than sufficient. Are you on AF-Continuous or AF-Static? Subjects walking / moving in front?

Well anyway, it's an old lens. The newer VR *should* be better seeing the price and age.
*
Hehe, old lens characteristic. They are not running also.
Shutter speed fast enough but view finder shaky tongue.gif

Hoping one day can hug the 70-200 VR home laugh.gif

VR and VR2 definitely sharper than the 80200 wide open smile.gif

The only new lens that isn't better in optics compared to the old version is probably the 50mm f/1.2 AiS vs the 50mm f/1.4D (and probably G too?).
*
50G so soft tongue.gif 50 1.2 is the best 50 in the nikkor line up.
I'm not too sure sigmalux , but i tested in canon one also so-so only doh.gif

yesterday did, shooting. with 50mm in indoor sort of studio but not studio (because the place is too narrow). damn! doh.gif
50mm couldn't give enough space for the model. I end up using my friends 18-105. -.-'

d5100 doesnt have manual control right? what's the function of shutter speed actually?
*
what is manual control ?
Manual mode ? why dont have ?

Shutter speed is the speed to decide how fast your shutter have to action.
Fast shutter you get subject freeze easier, slower means easier to get blur

For this image I used 2 seconds on shutter speed

Shutter speed priority let you gain full controlling of your desired Shutter speed value,
and let the cpu pick up the suitable aperture value to get you a balanced exposure image smile.gif
