My inside source said M18x will be available in few month(s) time to be officially released by Dell Malaysia.

For 10k budget, I think you might able to own basic specs + highest GPU option already! laugh.gif
*
Wow, so it's really coming? drool.gif
Good news, but I've seen size comparisons between M18x and M17x R3 side by side, it seems
like M18x is a lot bigger! shocking.gif
Don't know whether it's a camera trick. laugh.gif

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ May 8 2011, 03:13 PM)
High end Alienwares can last very long in terms of specs  nod.gif
Take the Doc's Alienware with GTX260 for example, its still better than most of the mainstream mid-level GPUs we get in the market now  rclxms.gif
Iirc, they are upgradeable for the M15/17x, and probably the M18x too
*
I thought Mr Docter's Alienware uses GTX280 SLi which is better? laugh.gif
Yes they are upgradeable provided the BIOS support it, and the power supply is sufficient.
But I've found modded BIOS for M17x R2 if I am not mistaken, at Tech Inferno forum, whereby with this BIOS
there is no more restriction on what card could be installed. smile.gif

QUOTE(advocado @ May 8 2011, 04:52 PM)
So long in terms of how many years? 5?
*
The easiest way to see this is to compare what console are available on that time.
For example, right now we have XBOX360, and as long as XBOX360 is still in the market, then most probably
you can play most games on high, until next gen of console is arrived, it is expected next gen console from Microsoft
will be released on 2013. This is the time where most graphics engine got updated to a new level, as many games currently
are ported from console. But, with the specs of current high end GPU, I would say it will last longer.
What I said is based from what have been discussed in other forum. smile.gif

At least i7 2720QM and crossfire HD6970M.
Upgrade the rest if you have more budget imho. smile.gif

Mostly high end graphic card is minor different compare each other. Just the graph of the review made the customer mind what to buy. Simply just a few fps different.
I own most of the alienware, but still...... well after u guys step in desktop world then only u know what is performance
*
Agreed. nod.gif

Compromises have to be made on laptops...
Still, I'm looking forward to entering the desktop world when I have a permanent place to stay  rclxms.gif
*
Probably going to make a desktop when I'm already a working adult. laugh.gif
But, that's after everything else is done first.(getting married etc. LOL tongue.gif )

When I settle down in preferably in Australia, I will get Alienware Area 51 biggrin.gif

Yeah that could be the question. Probably no longer play games after getting married, thanks for the reminder,
Need to revise the future plan. laugh.gif

Hmmm, so the M18x will not be available in malaysia for real?
Guess those who want that model need to import from the US I think. blush.gif

i just saw in notebookreview before, they controlled fan speeds and so on, there wasnt any big issue - but not for all people ...

Most people in NBR already changed the thermal paste on the GPU and CPU, that will help a lot in reducing heat.

Oh ya, is it going to void the warranty if we change the thermal paste by ourselves?
I think not right?

Not really help. We are in malaysia, not those cold cold country. I use rm1k thermal paste also useless, the best thermal paste also useless

Haha yeah the hot weather in malaysia is not really helping in reducing temperature. smile.gif

Crackling?
Don't say that the speaker grill is getting loose. blink.gif
Because I've heard that kind of issue at NBR.

Rowan, better contact dell asap I think, if you get problem when it is still new, I think you have a chance for a 1 to 1 exchange,
provided if you willing to wait again. biggrin.gif

Oh ya, congrats on the new lappy. rclxms.gif

it will be useful for me in the not far future .... but after hearing all this seems like aw lappy hav many problems lol

Added on May 12, 2011, 6:08 amGuys ... im reconsidering the m18x thing >.<
shipping from canada is still kinda elaborate for me >.<
what if i get a m17xR3?
since its available in malaysia, it makes things ALOT easier lol
or should i consider an ASUS ?
this 2 are the most possible candidates for a gaming laptop for me >.<
the games im gonna play are most probably, Dragon Nest, Prototype 2, DMC5, DA3, FIFA 12, PES 2012, Mass Effect 3 assuming those games come out XD juz a rough example,
will m17x be able to handle it ?
p.s and im gonna take animation designing course too , quite sure it can handle that =D

and i was kinda building my own laptop at malaysia dell , and the price was kinda around 12k >.<
can anyone giv me some guidance >.<
*
Just to give you a better picture of how powerful single HD6970 is compared to desktop counterpart.
HD6970M is almost on par with dual HD5870M,
while single HD5870M is almost as good as HD5770 desktop version, so single HD6970M is almost on par with dual HD5770 desktop version. That's a lot of power already for me. smile.gif

Regarding the animation designing, you're going to get more software/driver optimization by using Quadro GPU (Nvidia) or AMD Firegl, which is build exclusively for stuff like that.
But for me, if you already have dual or single HD6970M, everything will be smooth for you, in fact HD6970M already can handle all games at max currently.
Of course for future proof, HD6970M crossfire will have more advantage, its benchmark is almost as high as GTX570 desktop. nod.gif

The M17x is very powerful already bro, it shouldn't have much problems gaming the upcoming games   laugh.gif
You might want to consider it instead, save all the hassle of importing and having warranty problems later on  hmm.gif
Just my 2 cents  laugh.gif

@hidz7, yeah, ordered already haha  laugh.gif

Wow, congrats bro, buy direct from dell or from viper88?. So envy of you. Really hope I can get mine soon. thumbup.gif

Can anyone here post gaming benchmarks of their M17x R3?
Maybe Rowan or anyone who own M17x R3?
Really appreciate if you guys can do that. rclxms.gif

Plus it'll make this thread more exciting. laugh.gif

Grats on your purchase  rclxms.gif
Might be good if you could check for any minor faults which (as been reported in NBR) so that can exchange before its too late  nod.gif
I've been having a headache trying to find a suitable laptop sleeve and cooler pad for this monster, any suggestions bro?  laugh.gif

You can refer here for more details bro: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-...d-part-4-a.html
They just love OC-ing, OC-ing, and more OC-ing  laugh.gif
*
Haha I knew that bro, but they are more towards synthetic benchmarks (vantage,3dmark11.etc),
the things that I would like to see is the real gaming benchmarks, without OC will be much better.(how many average FPS in games etc.) laugh.gif
but thanks anyway. smile.gif
But of course if the owners here don't mind posting about that. nod.gif

M15x-R3 = more power!

Guys, remember last time I said M18x might be updated with new GPUs on June?
Well, it seems like M17x R3 will receive the same updates! drool.gif
Here's the link. Haha gotta save more money to get this thing. laugh.gif

http://dell-lab.posterous.com/dell-finally...cell-battery-ba

Quoted from that website:
Update:
In addition to the AMD 6870M, AMD 6970M and NVIDIA GTX 460M, Dell will offer the following GPUs from June 2011:
- AMD BlackComb XTX. Don't have the real name yet.
- NVIDIA GTX 560M
- NVIDIA N12E-GTX2. Can anyone confirm that this is the GTX 580M?

Tempting? brows.gif
