Yes bro. You guys have been so active Im happy to see lotsa feedback here nowadays. I told the good Doc. these days I will be busy with exams and work.

Yeah of course if I sell will see cheaper. But i wanna know the price our good bro from Canada is thinking of letting go. Price for the ATI 6970 is pretty steep if bought from EU or US still at the moment. Prices are all above USD$ 800. But you get a 2GB card.

From the test conducted and used by our crazy daring ALIENWARE Brothers from the States, yes the ATI 6970 2GB DDR5 card is compatible with the Alienware M15x. So those with this discontinued model like me still have a hope of updating our systems albeit by taking a bit of a risk by operating our precious monsters and spending a lil. The rationale is that the 75-100 Watt ATI 6970 is still within power consuming limits of the 150 watt put on the M15x model. Pair that with a non XM Proc will be best but some in the US are using it with the 920XM and the 940XM even. Their benchmarks for VANTAGE are like 14k or even more last I heard but temps got to be controlled. Yes we will have to use speedfan or other software to either MAX the fans while using or lower it. Also I think the mouting will have to be modified somewhat so will be a bit trickier compared to when I Mod the 260M to the 5870. At the moment I still haven't the time to go thru the whole steps laid out but prolly end of this month I will have more time. TIll then will drop by to see you guys here.

p;S Thanks Doc for tirelessly making and udpating the threads! smile.gif  notworthy.gif

u guys might need m17x adaptor for that, 6970 100W + 940Xm 55W, already over ur original adaptor W(150W), need to tweak on bios and other stuff, it iwll be complicated.

!WAN TO THROW AWAY MY M14x, shit.....

I've always been an NVidia fan, but like Rowan23 said if you want raw power you have to go for ATI for the moment. I like NVidia for the ability to game on 3D even though I've not done it yet. But its an option I would like to have coupled with Physx .... Im looking at the 6970 for the moment unless its possible to get hold of a GTX 470 or 485 for the M15x.
Yeah I don't know how they do it, but I wont' have that issue as I am running on the 820QM proc .... Even if stressed at the max, the 6970 should only use 100W. I want to wait and see how things develope actually cos a friend of mine from the forums mentioned experiments with the 485 GTX. See how that goes..... sweat.gif

820Qm onyl 45 W, not a big deal

The GT555m should be on par with GTX260m...
But its definitely no match for the GTX460m  laugh.gif

Compromises must be made for smaller sized laptops... the GT555m is considered as very good already I would say... but then if you're a hardcore gamer, M15/17x would be better picks due to the better specs/ upgradability  hmm.gif
*
done gaming, Gt555 not on par, GTX260M still perform a lot better than GT555

And I thought we'd have to make our own version of the M15x-R3 with GPU mods to a new card etc. Well I hope a better GPU like say a 2GB card from either NVidia or ATI besides the obvious upgrade to the 2nd gen i7 proc. A bigger power supply too. Wonder if it will inherit the soft touch surface of the M17x-R3? Hmmm..... Looks like I will have to wait longer before making a move on the ATI Swap for my M15x. M18x to Malaysia would be great too smile.gif
*
well, i will prefer 1GB instead of 2GB or 3GB. is freaking hot(PCB too much)

Yea, I pretty much active in FB compared to LYN nowadays to update with my families and colleagues. Ahh.. Don't decide yet bro. I gotta admit, I am deeply poisoned by your Shire SE535 especially the way to wear that tiny little monster, look damn unique. Too bad the price is killing me. Prolly will go for UE TF10 with Gold Cable upgrade to maximize the sound quality output, those should be around RM 1,000+ if purchased the earphone from Amazon and ask Jaben to upgrade the cable. Much lesser than your godlike SE535 bro tongue.gif

Yes, my GPU is much stable after reverting back to my classic driver. I don't know either the driver or my system itself is the culprit. My system is getting old, I presume. If not its the present from someone, high chance for me to sell it to fund for M17x-R3 with 2GB ATi HD6970.

The main limitation for M17x-R3 to be equipped with 2 GPUs is the slot itself. Only one slot is allocated for GPU, kinda packed inside it since they thinned M17x-R3 a bit compared to its previous older brother. And like other marketing strategy, dual GPU is limited for the rest of Alienware series to be set as flagship for M18x. Now lets wait for Sifu GreaseMonkey90's M18x for his personal review wub.gif

Hey You never know. Except maybe the power consumption would be too high lols. Have yet to find info regarding the power consumption but from the looks of the writeups online, this doesn't seem to be better than the current GTX 485M.
