Well after shipping its a tinge above USD$600. The upgrade will be almost RM2K. So heavy consideration is a must....

Just shaRING the link(came out a few weeks back) that GTX 560M is in for the M18x in June. Wonder how SLi on that would be? M17x has single as well.

Hey You never know. Except maybe the power consumption would be too high lols. Have yet to find info regarding the power consumption but from the looks of the writeups online, this doesn't seem to be better than the current GTX 485M.

Good question Doc! Cos if it can run the 6970 the 280M can't be a problem right? Just that maybe people don't wanna run on them nowadays due to tech advances. My GTX 260M is just sleeping in the cupboard. Imagine that... lols.

P:S Looking at the GTX 560M scores, its not much more powerfull than the GTX 460M is it? Just higher clock speeds and a power optimized chip. Performance rated lower than GTX 470M.

I'd like to help but when SC2 came out I was already running on the ATI 5870 DDR5. Prolly not on HIGH Settings but I think you definetly can play much higher than LOW settings with the 260M.

BTW, just read that the ATI 6970 Gave out double the FPS on certain games compared to the NVidia GTX 460M. Seems worth the upgrade....

GPU Problems? If you overclock it or it overheats it happens. Did you check temps? Or it BSOD during normal usage?

An Alienware M15x user abroad has a special clocked 6970 which is rumoured to be the 6990.

Hows ur system nowadays in terms of temp? Been using the 6970 for long? My concerns are the temps at the moment only.

So many benchmarking games nowadays, but I think Casperito's system is sufficiently powerfull to run anything on Highest except METRO2033 and the classic Crysis if I remember correctly.

M15x users and M17x users are lucky to be able to upgrade. Just didn't think the Doc's system which is an R1 M17x cannot. M15x the highest I've seen fitted with an ATI 2GB 6990M but temps are higher than 6970. Wanna upgrade mine like Hans18's M15x to future proof it for another year plus especially with new games like ARKHAM CITY, COD MW3,BATTLEFIELD 3 etc coming up amonst others like ASSASIN'S CREED REVELATIONS and BIOSHOCK... The only issue is the price of the upgrade.... $$$... with stocks down I'm gonna be sitting on the sidelines on this one for the moment. However getting the cards overseas will be cheaper as the USD keep plummetting....

Just a matter of time before M18x reaches Msia with the dual 6990s or 580s. Tsk Tsk Doc!! One time PAin!! Invest in the system, you're still young...

Happens to me as well sometimes. Alienhead won't light up and touch panel icons won't light up as well. They seem to go together and have their mood swings. But most of the time I hibernate my system instead of shutting it down. After a restart or 2 they re-light. If its a concern then give DELL a call bro.

Did a bit more research on the 6970 v 6990 after talking to Kelvin_hata. In the gaming sense, the 6990 has a 11-15% gaming output increase over the 6970. Games like COD Blacks Ops, Crysis 2 and Dirt 3 yielded about 5fps increase on ULTRA settings. Worth while the upgrade based on these stats is up to you. But an upgrade to GTX 580M with your M17x-R3 would still maintain the 3D gaming capabilities.

Besides Hans, who else is using the M15x with 2GB ATI 6970 ?

Im looking into that or a 6990. 6990 is hardly available. Then there's the question of the heat emissions. If 6970 can hit 80+in our climate, imagine the highly strung 6990? Only the bigger sized M17x can handle that ..... not to mention m18x
