Went to KF Audio today, finally settled for Boston Acoustic SL60. Blew my budget, but decided that the difference isn't that much.
Swapped my OEM HU for the old Alpine CDE-7871E. Anyway, now that its installed, here are my first impressions:
- Tweeters are pretty bright, have to tune the trebles down a tad bit
- Vocals sounds very nice, with lots of details. mids are good
- Midbass is severely lacking!

Not to say its not there, but definately not as strong as i like them to be
- Door panel (the door plastic trim) started to rattle, esp during bassy parts in songs
So now, my next aim is to improve the midbass and reduce panel rattle.
Firstly, can i ask, will the midbass improve after burn in? Is it normally the case that fresh speaker sets will have weak midbass because if the stiff out of factory condition of the speakers?
Secondly, i plan to add on my old Proton 60watt amp, will this improve midbass? Currently running it off HU rated at 45watt(not RMS). Even so, it gets pretty loud, but would the lack of power severely reduce the midbass?
Third, what can i do next to increase the midbass volume? Would dampening the door frame (metal), OR door panel (plastic trim), OR BOTH, increase the midbass?
As much as possible, i'd like to keep the spending to a minimum, so getting a sub is out of the question

Thank you people! =D
1 week after getting the Boston SL60, here are my impressions:
- midbass is improving slightly, perhaps due to it breaking in, or maybe im getting used to its midbass
- i played with the crossover settings. i changed the tweeter levels from -2dB to -4dB, and the result now is that the tweeters are less overpowering, which allows it to blend better with the bass. it also reduces its harshness
- i've also changed a setting in the woofer crossover. changed from 'on-axis' setting to 'off axis'. right off the bat i cant notice much, but after a while i realised the midbass is stronger. dont know whether its cause of the setting, or placebo.
Im starting to like this speakers more. Its midbass is pretty musical, but its not so controlled now, which i think its caused of the lack of amp(power). Then, the bass is causing lots of panel rattle, so i'd like some dampening in future. Hopefully i'll increase the midbass more, and give more control. Will amp it too.
It would be best if i can install an equilizer, or use a more tunable HU to control the tweeters. Better still if i can install L bridge to control the tweeter vol individually. Need to bring those tweeters harshness a notch down

Other than that, im lovin it!
