Amex plat CC

Transaction Date: 30 December 2011
Posting Date: 31 December 2012
Face to face Transaction Amount: SGD1,027
Amount Billed by Maybank: RM2,576.53
Therefore conversion rate = 2,576.53/1,027 = 2.50879

So much on the high side IMO. BNM rate on the 30th is only 2.4427 sweat.gif

Exchange should be as of posting date which is when the bank remits the money to the merchant. Thus the term "posted".

Oh, then my analysis is wrong already since I based it on transaction date.

Still helpful because day to day rate change shouldn't affect that much IMO, posting date and transaction date difference should be roughly only 2-3 days except over the weekends or long holidays.

Here is my table when using the exchange rate on the posting date. Again, the card is a MBB MC so I took the rate from MC's website.

[attachmentid=2627114]

Strangely, the Mastercard website does not provide the rate on weekends so I just put "n/a".

So when using the rate on posting date, the surcharge % fluctuates. Compared to previously when I used the rate as at transaction date the surcharge % was quite consistent.

Then my statement could be wrong after looking at this fact provided.
Although its a fact that posting date is the date the bank remit the merchant. But they could have used the transaction date fx smile.gif

Thanks for the comparison!

Japan - My cash exchange:
Somewhere between 17 or 18 May
YEN: 157,000
MYR: 5,981.70
Exchange Rate: 38.10

But during my trip in Japan from 22 May - 1 June, exchange had raised to over 40. So basically I lose out by using card.
Still got YEN10,000 which based on FX increased, earned around RM20. But not planning to change, leave for next trip in the future. wink.gif

Still puzzled on how the exchange rate was charged. Be it Transaction date or Posting date, also can't seem to reconcile. Or was it based on actual time it got (1)Transacted OR (2)Posted?!.... rclxub.gif
Seems to me more towards transactions date instead of posting. Because looks more closer.

I called Citibank to confirm about this again just two weeks ago and three different CS told me it is based on posting date.

Logically it should be based on posting date. But if you look at my statement.... very weird. Should I call and ask them to explain?... hmm.gif
