Buying android apps from Google Play requires payment in USD, so there will be foreign exchange fee involved, correct?

When booking a room online, through Agoda.com for example, which is better (for least exchange rate) - the amount in MYR or local currency? Thank you

The administration fee charged for all transaction made in foreign currency to Maybank VISA or MasterCard is now 1% instead of 0.5%.

This is a terrible news. From your findings, or it is stated somewhere?

I remember asking whether should I pay in MYR or local currency and you replied in USD. Unfortunately, I already made the bookings in MYR that time. Now dont wanna go back to calculate and feel the pain laugh.gif

(Gen-X, in his blog about Agoda, mentioned that he selected MYR so that dont have to worry about conversion rate tongue.gif)

Best is to try in both currencies like what Miles did and make a comparison.

With the changes to Maybank Visa/MC rate, I wonder if it is still lower than the rest. I will still stick with Maybank Visa for the moment.

(Bro Gen-X is probably away somewhere, on an exotic place with no internet connection )

I made a call to MBB Amex to notify that I will be using my MBB cards overseas and before ending the call, the SC further advice on the 2.5% charge for Amex and 1% charge for Visa. Very pleasant service smile.gif

Hi Ronnie,

thanks for your recommendation.
Any example of real transaction to show us as reference?

Where can i find the 5% rebate info regarding this card?
5% rebate will end after December 31, 2103? what's the rebate after that?
Any limit to the 5% return? of all transaction without limit?

Thanks,
Len

1. You can find the 5% info from the RHB website
2. After 31 Dec 2013, will be 1%.
3. Stated unlimited overseas and online transactions only.

I would like to ask sifu who always buy air asia tickets. I bought one way air asia ticket with the point of departure from overseas e.g. gold coast. i've changed the currency to RM however when I want to submit my credit card details it still used the home currency Aud. therefore end up paying Aud (the reason I want to use RM is because their rate look cheaper).

Is this normal e.g. they will charge based on the currency of the point of departure?
*
i experienced the same too even though i have set to MYR.

For Maybank 2 AMEX, the cash back is based on the transaction date or the posting date? And is it based on Malaysian time?

Yeah, hope it maintains. . Even if the 3% cashback capacity is used up, it is comparable with what offered by moneymaster so do not have to carry much cash.

Previously, when I booked an AirAsia ticket from Tokyo to Kuala Lumpur, the system automatically converted Yen to MYR and my CC was charged in MYR.

Today, I added luggage for the same flight but the system does not convert the currency and my CC was charged in Yen. So I will be imposed with foreign exchange rate?

Hi just a quick question, if I paid an item overseas in foreign currency, will the foreign transaction fee (1% or 2.5% for amex) be included with the actual transaction amount (appear as a single line item) or will it appear as a separate line item?
*
will appear as a single entry (the final amount paid)

hi i am planning to go to Jakarta soon....i plan to book my hotel, food and a few other things from here.... so the charges will be in usd or rupiah.....may i know which CC gives a good conversion rate and rebates.....i have
hlb wise, maybank 2 card amex and visa, aeon watami, ocbc titanium, hsbc amanah mpower visa....

from what i read here i think aeon watami gives the best conversion but i usually max out the 3% rebate.....i was just wondering whether OCBC titanium or HSBC with their 1% cash back is more worth it than AEON Watami conversion rate excluding the 3% cashback....

any comments..thanxs..

if you are booking using agoda, there is a promo with banks like maybank..charge it in RM so no forex fee..as for forex rate, it has been reported here that aeon gives a good conversion rate.
