Bro, i know the formats and how it works. My question is are they doing any use for yourself when you purchase those 4 disc edition , 3 disc edition which packed with Digital Copies. blush.gif
*
Hi bro , alot of guys i know who do buy BD`s dont really need the digital copy . I understand as well that by not having the digital copy of these movies the cost of the BD can be brought down . In my case , i do redeem all the digital copy of the movies that i purchase . I transfer all of them to my iPhone where i view them while travelling or during my break time at work . Recently when Tangled Blu Ray came out , i choose to purchase the 3D version because i wanted the digital copy of the movie although i dont have a 3D setup at home . Maybe buyers should be given an option if they want to purchase the digital copy of movies because not everyone needs them .

Excellent reply, this is what i was expecting. I agree with you honestly, i don't need the digital copy since i don't owe a luxury mobile device that can be used to watch movie files. But, what is the drawback of pulling out the Digital Copies? What's the market reception on dropping Blu-ray prices? Have those distributors or studios thought about all these factors?

I don't think they understand studied the commercial market well, in terms of the need of Digital copies, which could well, lead to infringement of genuine movie files?
*
I dont think there is much drawback if digital copy is cease to be provided , as even now there are some titles that doesnt come with the digital copy of the movie .

Here are some of the reception on digital copy that i managed to find of the web :

Tech industry analyst Michael Gartenberg described this initiative as "a smart move" providing an easier alternative to customers compared to converting the files themselves using software such as HandBrake. Gartenberg was critical of Sony for restricting themselves to files for the PlayStation Portable that were not widely compatible with more popular personal media devices.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation described Digital Copy schemes as "stealing your fair use rights and selling them back to you piecemeal" disputing claims by Hollywood studios that it is illegal for customers to rip a personal copy of a DVD to put on a portable video player, even if they own the DVD.He references Jon Healey of the Los Angeles Times who describes the situation as consumers being asked in the case of DVDs to pay more for uses they had before at no extra cost with CDs and cassette tapes.

Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols of ComputerWorld.com describes the "Digital Copy" as nonsense, a feature that is no feature at all. He criticizes it as an attempt by the industry to sugar coat DRM, complaining that viewers should be able to watch the movie they have already bought on any device they want, and that media companies should change their business plans to meet their customers' legitimate needs.

Opinions on this issue is mixed and it depends on individuals on how they interpret it . It could lead to infringement of genuine movie files , i have tried making a copy of the digital copy and tried ripping it / converting but it failed .

"A Smart Move", providing alternative to consumers is fine, probably the volume of piracy in that nation (US), does not grow higher than what it does in the Asian market. I couldn't agree less with Steven JVN of Computerworld.com, if you gonna buy the Blu-ray for the format itself, and enjoy the High Definition content with your Home system, makes sense perfectly. Not criticizing the inclusion of Digital copies, but it does largely makes difference in terms of price quoting for most of the Blu-ray titles.

I'd never bothered ripping or converting files. I do admit that , i do download files sometimes, mostly from the luxury provider , Youtube blush.gif. Good debate thus far tongue.gif
*
I think the main issue is the pricing of the BD once the digital copies are included . Piracy is really not a factor as with iTunes its very difficult to make copies of the digital copies it self . iTunes showed both content owners and consumers that content distribution using DRM can, indeed, be a win-win situation

My Toy Story 2 Blu-ray Review

Packaging : 1 BD 1 DVD comes with embossed Slipcover

Video Quality : This sequel, a film that was released 4 years after Toy Story 1, holds a lot more amount of detail to it , hence it's the vast improved on the CGI. The guys at Pixar's excellent craft finally produced yet another of my favorite "demo disc. Transfer is really top notch and the black level is pretty sold , color looks definitely vibrant. This is solid 5/5 rating from me.

Sound Quality : I would say , i've enjoyed every litte sound effects and it sound realistic. Bass was good. It got as louder as it could and i felt like my ears could go blistering if i were to crank up loud. Another 5/5 rating from me.

Bonus Material : Haven't had the chance to completely watch the Extras. I only watched the Toy Story 3 Sneak Peek in High Def and it was awesome. Waiting for my Toy Story 3 from eBay to arrive tongue.gif

Overall, this is a fan pleasing stuff and the DVD combo in this pack was rather useless. I would definitely recommend this for the beginners , who has the love affair with High Definition animated films.

In the last 5 months i've spent more than 500 USD buying some rare items from eBay. In average of 100 USD per month, which is more or less than RM330 , unless i see any other potential items which is below USD15 - USD18, i grab. For eg Slipcovers, BD cases etc.

This month alone, i've spent about 800 USD on BD's alone. Those are for Bollywood blu-rays and some exclusive BD's tongue.gif
*
Nice , i have reduced my expenses alot on BD . Nowdays i only buy good titles .
