Still haven't received my Canadian steels, what the heck are DHL & Ketam in Penang doing. I've provided them the FINAS license at 9 am yesterday but still
Maybe they are banging each other Brokeback Mountain style  mad.gif

haha rclxm9.gif steelbook arrived this morning. in good condition, AMZ CANADA used fill-air inflatable packaging to protect the disc, AMZ CANADA is my 1st choice now. notworthy.gif

some words from Blu-ray.com review over War of the Worlds picture quality..

The picture does enjoy a strong film-like look thanks to a thick layer of grain that's maybe even a bit heavier than that seen in Minority Report and Saving Private Ryan. War of the Worlds does not offer high definition "eye candy" in the traditional sense, but it is reflective of the way the film is supposed to look, which is the ultimate compliment to any Blu-ray, no matter how rough around the edges it may be.

guess what I saw about the grainy is true thru my eyes..and it is just not my cup of tea  whistling.gif
*
a home entertainment disc is to present the movi in the way that the movi director intended to, WAR OF THE WORLD is meant to be grainy, so the BD present it in grainny way. it is faithful to director's intention.

check out the review:
http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/42562/war-of-the-worlds/
http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/3125/waroftheworlds.html

i am not arguing that WAR OF THE WORLD has no grain, i am saying the grainy look is natural & faithful to the movi original look. it is the best presentation of the movi original look.

if it is not original & failure in transfer, DVD TALK REVIEW, BLURAY.COM & BLURAY HIDIFDIGEST would not give iy 4 /4.5 star rating.

the movi applied heavy grain reduction is FRENCH CONNECTION & PREDATOR, both received bad reviews.

Not an arguement, brother, but a personnel opinion, and it is my cup of tea. whistling.gif

Just watched some parts of 71 into fire, KILL BILL 1 & 2 from CANADA, YIYI, FLOWER & SNAKE, all looks good.

KILL BILL 1 & 2 ALLIANCE QUALITY = AMAZON UK, dif is the cool steel book.

also tried PSYCHO black & white, very sharp, much better than DVD.

TAXI DRIVER is gonna to be my TOP 10 BLURAY DISC, good movi with good bluray release, pic/sound/packing & price all a must.

INCREDIBLES - DISNEY PIXAR also looks very good.

Has anyone tried buying from HMV uk, I noticed that they have True Grit (Steelbook)-Region Free - "are u interested bro johnbluray"

But I noticed that when I tried to check out they didn't deduct the VAT from the items  doh.gif . Can anyone confirm
*
i would like to stick with AMAZON, so far, everything ok & i need to honor their replacement on every complaint we made so far.

HMV is a retailer like SPEEDY, since they do not do VAT reduction, i do not think it will be much cheaper than AMZ UK.

is the TRUE GRIT STEELBOOK available in AMZ UK? or HMV exclusive?

Guys,  I need super quick advice from you.

Recently bought a boxset from Amazon which contains 3 movies. Apparently one of the case broken when I received. Nothing wrong with the movie (disc) - only the blue case got broken.

Contacted Amazon and they claimed that they can't send me an empty case. They can only give me 2 option - full refund of the boxset or send replacement for the entire boxset

Err...I told them that there is nothing wrong with the paper boxset - only the blue plastic case got broken in one of the movie. I felt that it will be pretty unfair if they have to replace the whole boxset whereby I am only complaining that one of the bluecase got broken.

They are waiting for my reply - how, how, how?
*
actually, it is totally up to you, after all it is between u & AMZ.

HOWEVER, MY PERSONNEL OPINION IS AS FOLLOW:

do not request replacement for bluray standard keep case, because it can be replaced easily, it is not customized. average every 10 disc i bought from AMZ, 3 BLURAY KEEPCASE are broken, regardless AMZ US/UK/GERMAN.

u should reserve the right for the replacement when u buy the customized bookcase/steelbook/boxset when it is broken.

if u request too many replacement, i believe they keep record.

i requested they replace the DR. ZHIVAGO bookcase for me, but they send the new disc/bookcase. i accept it as i cannot replace the bookcase. but i can easily buy the standrad bluray keepcase over here for the broken one.

i would not go for trilogy, part 2 & 3 are soso (i felt), unlike TOY STORY trilogy, all goods.

got my "artistic movies" steelbook from Amazon.ca..300, SinCity, Kill Bill 1 and 2..all in good condition..
also got the steelbook of Sherlock Holmes for the 2nd time from amazon.de..
crap, it's still dented like the 1st one..WTF..
now I think twice about amazon.de..emmm

ps: who want a cheap (still seal) Sherlock Holmes steelbook? trade in with another used steelbook perhaps..PM me.
*
i also face lot of packing problem from AMZ DE, my 1st batch steelbook 2 dented/broken, 1 missing disc, after the replacemnet, i would say problem half solved.

AMZ CANADA got better packing, the steelbook from AMZ CANADA also better quality.

From December until Now.. around 5 months, which means in total I drafly spend RM 1k every month for blu-ray.

Still a lot pending... not sure when can finish getting it...

---------------------

But now I learn something, don't take because fancy of the case, nearly all Steelbook I get, I didn't watch it as I not so like the movie itself, I get it because of the steelbook.... that why ... I not simply get steelbook already unless the title I love it.

I want to collect more on Documentaries and all Disney/Pixar titles as possible as I can.. Off course, cannot forgotten those lovely Japan Edition Ghibli Studio Collector Set.
*
thanks bro, will change my name to johnbluraymadman soon. i believe u will overtake me soon.

AMZ UK - 70 pound, released on 30/9/2011
AMZ US - $90, released on Malaysia Day, 16/9/2011

Look like UK(RM345) is more expensive than US one (RM270) and released later as well. I will try amazon.
*
brother, the UK will have 17.5%VAT refund, so is around RM300. u might want to consider postage$ too.

usuauuly UK $ will drop significantly after release. if for pre-oreder, not much dif.
