Hello
My 4mbps line has been giving me problems too - does it matter if I switch DNS or not? Will this affect my connection? It hangs a lot more and gives me errors on other DNS. So I switched back but Steramyx line is still bad. Will have to call them soon. I need to restart my modem and router and then keep on finding a good IP. Other IPs just don't work at all. Why is that?

sigh. called them 'cos i've been getting dummy ips but they keep saying my problem was a frequent disconnection problem 'cos in my history / log on their side it looked like i was disconnecting all the time except i was doing it manually. the dead ips don't work at all and i have to manually disconnect and connect until i find one that works.
so the technician came today and i am now getting around 3mbps when yesterday at 3am i was still getting 4mbps.
the technician called me and said i needed to downgrade my line also. CRAZY STREAMYX PPL. if i had to downgrade, this wouldn't happen now 3 months after having streamyx 4mbps. it should have shown from the start. if only they would look on their side and not say it's the customer's fault all the time.
i just spoke to 100 to complain that the technician downgraded my line and that it is NOT A frequent disconnection problem OR an unstable connection but that it is a dummy IP problem - in other words, i get connected to IPs that don't work and i have to manually disconnect and connect until I find a working IP...
so frustrating.

So the technician came to my house again and after much figuring out he said the internal wiring in my house is bad and that the copper wire is black. But since he came the line is worse for wear - surfing is not up to speed, speedtests show 2-3mbps but torrents are decent at 404kbps.
So am wondering whether I should call the wireman to check on my house tomorrow - what do you think?
SNR is at 7-11db Line Attentuation around 48.7

Does it affect your torrent if your line is unstable?

the TM guys and my wiring people came and spent roughly the whole day in my house -
TM downgraded my data rate from 5mbps to 4096 and my SNR is now at 12+. It was at 8 before then dropped to 6 to 3 to -3.9. However, they said there was something wrong with my internal wiring because when they used their own wire they could get an SNR of 20.
So yes, I do believe my internal wiring may not be able to support data very well.
TM said I should downgrade my package from 4mbps to 2mbps and change my wiring.
I did some speed tests and am now getting 3.5mbps on my line. This morning for the first time, I got 4.85mbps. But of course, the SNR margin was so erratic that it made it very unstable. We will see now by decreasing the data rate whether it will have any effect on my line. This is probably the best solution for now.
I don't think I will change my wiring either - it will need to be exposed and it looks ugly. Plus I'm going to wait for high speed broadband in my area then upgrade to fibre optics. I don't think it's worth changing my telephone cables now when I do eventually intend to change to fibre optics.
Added on September 10, 2011, 5:42 pmAnother sad thing - ip that starts with 175 don't work well for me. 218 is better and I never get 60. Why is this so?

those TM guys keep saying there's nothing wrong with 175 and saying it's a premium IP. what rubbish.
Added on September 11, 2011, 12:25 amIn fact, after their tampering today, i've been getting terrible speeds at 1-2mbps only.

QUOTE(availyboy @ Sep 12 2011, 05:28 AM) How much does it cost for the wiring to be changed? I am using 4mbps package right now,but i am capped at 5120. It seems that my SNR margin is really low which whoops around 8 to 10db. Kinda unstable sometimes, but no disconnections so far. Is it possible to request for a wiring change? Haha thanks guys! U and me same. I called the TM guys to check what's up and they suggested I change the internal wiring of my house but since they reduced my data rate to 4096 on my existing wiring, I have gotten a worse connection.

TM Net took the liberty with my line and reduced it from 5120 to 4096 - sure, I get a better SNR margin now but the speeds only around 1.9-2.5mbps... totally sucky.
So i've been complaining and they've been calling to try and close the case but i'm not allowing it - so the technicians have again taken the liberty to say I should downgrade and CHANGE the wiring in my house - so i've asked the TM guys about rewiring my house since they'd know it best. It should be either or. Not both 'cos that would be totally silly. If they rewire I should be able to keep my data rate at 5120.
But if I downgrade I wouldn't need to change the wiring in my house. They said rats or something have gotten to it but my telephone is still ok. Too bad I want to keep my number. :/

The 4mbps connection I've been facing over the last few days have been worse than ever. Getting high ping rates, still slow connection and not getting 80% of 4mbps which totally sucks - I'm guessing my SNR margin is better but I still get frequently disconnected. I think it's Streamyx the lousy. I still get calls from TM to ask me to close my report but I keep saying I'm waiting for the technician to update my case which they haven't. I guess I'll have to check in on them tomorrow to see what's the update. I'd like to downgrade if possible. And probably get rid of it soonest. boo.
