Guys, i bought mine HTC Desire S 4 days ago, in a shopping complex in my place ( Bukit Rahman Putra. Sungai Buloh) Suprisingly only this guys has it. he said he took 4 units, and 3 of them sold, only left 1 last unit which i've bought it. 1 yr local warranty, so i believe its AP Set. Free gift given, is the casing(normal RM10 casing), GPS Car holder, and he owe the rubber casing which still dont have in the market now.... sad.gif ....

I came from SE K800i, and i know that its a big 'jump' to Android platform. and i dunno anything about 2.3 Ginger Bread or High5 bread...lolz.. well, internet is there to learn anything that we want, interesting phone indeed.. and its not a phone, its a super computer + phone i must say !!! biggrin.gif

i was just being hit by RM263.75 data charges ! OMG ! what have i pressed !!! doh.gif

Usage Charges
Domestic Charges
Calls 38 .98
Data 263 .75
International Charges
Data 0 .20 302 .93

Found out that :

Under settings>Wireless&Networks>Mobile networks> Enable always-on mobile data is enabled ! is that the reason?? Damm.....

Anywhere else this could triggered the data connection ? im on Maxis standard postpaid, no data data .....

You should get a data plan at least. Without data plan, you'll be charge standard rate which is insanely expensive. 8mb of usage will easily cost you rm70-80.

No Bro, i prefer to use Wifi wherever its available, my office wifi, or home wifi..thats ok la.. im not a 24x7 internet person blush.gif

but, i was just wondering, coz i normally use wifi (turned on 90% of time), how come the data plan overtook ? cry.gif terrible !

Yeah, its my mistake i guess ! cry.gif

Pls guys all of you be careful... anything that says Data plan turn it off..

There are a few :

1. Settings>Wireless&Networks>Mobile Network (Connect to the Internet) = DISABLE THAT
2. Settings>Wireless&Networks>Mobile Networks>Enable always-on mobile data = DISABLE THAT
3. Settings>Wireless&Networks>Mobile Networks>Data Roaming (uses data charges) = DISABLE THAT

Well, unless you are in unlimited data plan, than ignore the above.......

This is something most people don't know... HTC being smart enough will disconnect WiFi if the signal reach -80dbm if i not mistaken... it happen on all sense Gingerbread rom... DHD also got this issue... There is a fix but for S-Off phone only...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051674
well, i think your right ! i just called maxis to un-bar my line, was talking to them.. most of the smartphones has this features ( likewise ours are new in the market, sure 'smart' enough). If the wifi signals weak/turned off, it 'might' use the data of the carriers(Max/cel/dig...etc). Scary enough, but lesson for me, turn off anything that says mobile data...

On the other hand, maxis's cheapest data plan package is RM18 for 100mb, if exceeds normal charges for data applies ( no notification/sms if exceeds)

Is Juice Defender a good apps to control the 'data/wifi on or off' ? e.g only use 'WIFI for data...." ? coz when i disable "Background Data", i couldn't go to Market, getting message "market needs background data enabled".....hm.. this is complicated than i thought..

Some of our guys said that its not good and make your DS reboot randomly.. Some said make the battery life worst.. I only used it for 1 day and removed it after reading their comments. I cant say if its good or not, only tried for 1 day..

Enable background data, but below that option, switch off the 'Automatically Sync' option.
*
