Hi there

I will be running the 'Empire Operations' division of the Celestial Order. It isn't really be that big a deal that we stay completely secret because in the long run, the idea is to rejoin our parent company of veteran players. For now what I need is a team of 4 to 5 people to join me in creating the industrial core of this great Malaysian based MMORPG guild on EVE Online. I am looking for fresh newbies over experienced EVE players. For the initial period I will be focused on the newbie basics. If you are Vet that wants to join up, I certainly will welcome you as long as you understand we won't be PvPing in deep space on the first day. I will set you out with a Trial account and get you started. To save my time and yours, here is what I am looking for in my fellow players.

1) Credit Card
Sorry. At USD 14.95 per month, EVE is a pay to play game. If you can't pay for it, you will neccesarily have to stop playing in 14 days. I will still get you a trial account if you really want to go ahead. I would LOVE to have you join us no matter what. Just please do me the favour of informing me that you will not be sticking around for the long run. I really want to focus my attention on the people that will, as I plan to invest a substantial amount of RL time and in-game assets on this team.

2) Patience.
Please understand that EVE is a game that requires a LOT of patience for you to enjoy it. The first thing you will realise if you try the game is that the tutorial is LONG and BORING. I nearly gave up this game before I started because of the damn tutorial. It took me just under four hours! However, in the long run it has really been worth it. The tutorial is also is a great way to pick up the people that have the patience for EVE, and those that do not. After I get you the trial account, please do the tutorial. I am going to spend a lot of my time on you over the following 14 days, so please show me that you are willing to take steps on your own.

3) Demographic
While I don't mean to marginalise anyone here, I would prefer to work with mature working malysian adults that play after dinner time. This a guideline, not a restriction. There is a 16 year old in my Guild Wars guild that is a little old man and is probably more mature than I am! If he wasn't doing his SPM in 60 days I'd love to have him. Also, the corp is not going to be restricted to Malaysians so we will be using English as our main language.

Finally, I am sorry if this sounds like more of a put off than a turn on to a lot of you. It's just for the best for everyone that I be clear up front what I am looking for. I am willing to lead, but I am not willing to your eternal hand holder. You must be self deterministic. If we can get a team of 4 to 5 people that are like minded, it will be fun and profit for all!

Hope to hear from you soon and thanks for your kind attention. Feel free to PM or Xeos from the 'Celestial Order' above if you are interested. With a good enough response we can get started this weekend.

new player here... just a few questions, i was wondering if being a hybrid is better? aka fighter-miner or single path profession? i know it will take 2-3 times longer to reach where i wanna be because of the split time to learn two professions but i know i will be bored if i stick to one path... was told by a friend to make two single profession path characters but i'm not as rich as he is. can't afford to support two accts >.<

currently 2nd day in trial and scordite mining my brains (and sanity) out in my imicus in the beginning 1.0 sector, lol... did a few dogfight-hunting missions and i like that too... personally, i like being able to do a bit of both... so any suggestions? single or double professions?

Allow me to offer my point of view, which might be slightly out of date now. I haven't played in a few months. The answer is Yes, it is not only possible - it is actually a very powerful option *IF* you understand how to play your character according to the playstyle that best suits its strengths. Furthermore, you must also be able to like playing the character this way. Barring some pretty big changes in the game, I will confidently stand by the Intaki EW/Drone Fighter and Industrialist Hybrid. This was the build that I used for my first character, and with an adjusted approach I was able to do it all. I was mining bucket loads of ISK, out-ratting Ravens (without having to use Ammo!) with my drones and still managed to rack up about 30-50 PVP kills a week.

The trick is to understand the various step off points in EVE. The higher degrees of improvements take significantly longer to attain. So at the start, you should target becoming 'Average' at all the things you want to do. Go for lots of level 4 skills before you concern with Level 5 or Speacialist skills. Don't be one of those noobs that rocks out of the Academy and decides to unwaveringly pursue piloting a T2 interceptor. Get into a cruiser first, then a battlecruiser as soon as you can afford it and then stop there a bit, to work up your support skills before you try a battleship. At that point, start training specalist skills. I suggest that you should be able to fly a well equipped battleship long before you fly out in any T2 ship. If that is starting to sound a bit boring, then that is the first sign that you should not be playing a Hybrid character.

It isn't as easy as I make it sound of course, by the time I stopped playing I had over 40 million skill points so that helped a lot, but I enjoyed myself (mostly) all along the journey. I never felt like I was giving up something to play the way I wanted to play. Like I said, its more about your personality. If your defintion of "Fighting" is to go in guns blazing at max DPS in a super fast Elite Vessel - and thats what 'fun' is to you - then just make a pure fighter dude wink.gif

The path of miner/covert-ops/EW is more carebear than PVP.  As a pure EW pilot, you need to work in a group in order to be effective.  You most like cant kill anyone, but also quite hard to kill in a correctly fitted ship.

Not to seem dismissive of a post that is over all full of good advice, but the above statement is completely untrue. Just remember the mantra of the warrior. This is PvP. Player versus Player. It is not Character versus Character. You must win the fight in your head before the battle begins, and for that - nothing beats a good strategy, and a well implemented fight plan. Take note, that despite the 'Miner/Industrialist' label that other people made me wear, I was already a negative 10 sec rating solo pirate around the 12 million SPs mark. Around the 20 million skill points mark, I lead my corp into a 0.0 alliance and immediately took my place as the second highest rated killer and industrial leader. In EVE, you really can do it all.

You just need to be inventive enough to out-think the next player, the next corp, the next alliance. I can tell you exactly how I used to go on solo killing sprees, sometimes up against 3 opponents at once using 'Brainy' skills only. The thing is, that the style I used to fight - by now is probably a well understood (and therefore well countered) combat style. You need to come up with your own plan, that works today. There are indeed two types of players in EVE. But saying that Miners and Industrialist are non-PVP carebears is also untrue. The dividing line is simply whether you are willing to fight, or not. That is all.

Trust me, I know plenty of so called 'Fighters' over 20 millions SPs that keep saying that they need to 'train this skill and that skill before I will be ready to fight'. Maybe one day they will be ready, but IMO - they will never be. They lack something as a player. The Fighting Spirit. Nothing to do with their characters. I also knew plenty of brand new players that rocked up to 0.0 fleet fights in their 2nd week and kicked ass. These people were born to fight. Ultimately, Amber's post has one real gem. Follow your heart. All I can say is that, for you to follow it, you must first understand your nature.

The first step is to take your own advice first and last. Trust your own ideas above all else. Do that and you will rock this game.
