Is whole JB with 3G coverage? I am keen to switch to umobile prepaid. Now using Digi prepaid. Need faster mobile internet for video calls with Skype.

Advice please?

If possible, test it with a prepaid number 1st. Their coverage is kinda limited though.

Thank you.. rather lose few bucks on a prepaid number than getting high blood pressure if network coverage is poor after port in :-)

Indeed. If the prepaid does not perform well, just left it aside. No need to go here and there to cancel the post paid line.

Prepaid only cost less than RM10, but if postpaid migration is not going well, it definitely cost more than that.

How long does it take for line activation? Just got a starter pack from 7-eleven. The staff said it would be activated in 2 hours time but now already 2.5 hours sad.gif

Tested my new umobile prepaid (pay-as-you-use) during my trip to Cameron/Genting:-

My house (Johore Bahru, Nusajaya) - NO 3G!!! It is a shock cuz Nusajaya is right within Iskanda Development Region... Terrible download speed @ 28 kbp icon_question.gif

North South Highway (between Johor and Seremban) - 1 - 2 mbp icon_idea.gif
North South Highway/Seremban - 3 mbp to 5 mbp drool.gif

Cameron Highland - Only 2G, but signal ok... appx 130 kbp smile.gif

Genting - 2G - appx 130 kbp at public area downstairs
- 2G - appx 70 kbp in hotel room

I like Umobile cuz it is cheaper. But I lost phone connection a few times when in hotel room in Genting. I need to switch off and on my phone (Samsung SII) to restore signal. Any idea why is that so?

That is 20% rebate.. :-)

Is the phone setting under the $28 unlimited package the same as Pay-per-use setting? I mean, if I decide to switch back to prepaid pay-per-use, do I need to reset my phone setting?

if im not wrong... RM28 is permonth unlimited,
500mb quota once reach... trottle speed to 128kpbs or 64kpbs im not sure. either one.

pay per use, all u need to do is unsubscribe, and its 5cents per mb
*
Thank you... but what I mean is the phone setting in order to use internet, not about charges.

When first subscribed to $28 plan, umobile sent me the settings and I just saved it in order to use internet. If I keep switching back and forth $28 plan & pay-per-use, will there be any problem?

My usage is only high in certain months. So in the months when my usage is low, I will stick to pay-per-use @ $0.05/mb.

I tried using budget IDD code 1310 to call Singapore today. Seems that it can't work under 2G roaming with Celcom. No problem in area with 3G signal and calling Singapore only cost me $0.14/min.... cheaper than calling local number biggrin.gif

RM28 u try count is equivalent to 560mb. if u dun use more than that... u can juz opt for the pay per use plan.

i dun think need set... but if they send u sms means u shud set it.
but it shud be once only... doesnt matter wad plan.

Thank you. I am monitoring my usage nowadays. At home I use home Wifi under TM, but speed only 1 mbp max under $110 blockbuster plan sad.gif

Umobile pay-per-use speed is double of that...

Each time when there is a switch, be it 3g/2g switch or you switch from packet data to use wifi, 5 cents will be deducted if you are under Pay Per Use plan.

I tested my usage for 3 days now. Emails, light browsing and a little chat on viber, my account was deducted $2.5 in total despite leaving packet data on round the clock for 3 days.

This is the right plan for me cuz I can further reduce my usage by using TM wifi while at home. If you download a lot, then better take unlimited plan

Go to umobile center, sure got stock.
Those reload coupon expires on 2013, so no need worry about it  wub.gif

No doubt reload coupon expires in 2013, but the KFC coupon expires in Jul 2012. So if you buy many, better first take out the KFC coupons and eat till' you drop .... tongue.gif

I very keen on umobile but unsure of the coverage at my area.

Currently using hotlink on my iphong (microsim card)

Wanna try umobile cos internet connection.

I read 'most' of the page here and some recommended get the 'prepaid' RM10 first.

But question is, what if the line is soso ok?...Does it reflect on the 3G I'll be getting when I subscribe to the RM28 plan?

Thanks for any advice smile.gif

Test the coverage in your area with the Prepaid card under Rate plan @ $0.30/mb (new number). If you like it, then MNP your Hotlink number to umobile.

This is what I did for my Digi line previously. Now I have already MNP to umobile and I am quite happy with its speed (JB) and cheap rate. But I still stick on to rate plan cuz my usage is low and whenever I am at home, I use home Wifi which does not cost me a penny biggrin.gif

curently my number is under hotlink.
if i MNP to u-mobile then i found out u-mobile not so usefull, so can i MNP back to hotlink?
*
There is a minimum period before you can MNP back. You can find out from service centre of umobile hotline. I heard Digi's minimum period is 3 months.

The best way to test is to use a new umobile prepaid number, so that your original line is not affected until you make up your mind whether to port in or stay put with your original telco.

Coverage depends much on your location.

So now they're charging 30 sen per mb?
*
Oops, my mistake...

The rate plan for local use is $0.05/mb. $0.30/mb is when you roam in Singapore. This $0.30 rate is only applicable to prepaid roaming in Singapore, not applicable to postpaid.

Sorry....

MNP last friday, until today still no news. Not even notification of the request to MNP..

Called U mobile but no answer from the phone. haih.....

Is it possible to terminate MNP ?
*
Be prepared to hold on the line for as long as half an hour before someone answer your call. I think they are under staff. Better borrow someone's umobile line to call 1318 for free.

Alternatively, you can contact them online. I've tried that and received reply within 24 hours.

One more thing, if I roam at Celcom 2G network with umobile and I call another umobile user who is also roaming at Celcom's network - does the free call promotion apply in this case?
*
Not too sure... I have no friend using UM for now tongue.gif

UM FAQ states:
---------------------------
What does “free calls from U Mobile to U Mobile”/ within the network mean?
This means calling within the network - from one U Mobile number to another U Mobile number.

---------------------------

Looks like still free calls when domestic roaming with Celcom...

Before MNP to umobile, I finished my Digi prepaid credits on data usage. Main balance to buy daily or weekly plan, but bonus credits can only be used under pay-per-use which is terribly expensive. Can you imagine two times speed test alone already cost me $5.70?

Luckily I made up my mind to MNP before my birthday. I used to top up $150-$200 at one go to enjoy the 50% birthday bonus.
