RM28 if im not wrong doesn't include tethering.
if can be done. maybe limited to 500mb only.
atfter that its 5cents/mb
tat im still not very sure... cause RM28 is written mobile internet.
its not a prepaid broadband plan. so usually cnt tethering

QUOTE(dasonyeoh @ Sep 11 2011, 06:18 PM)
Correct me if i'm wrong, as i'm still exploring to switch to UM.

Think Tethering should able to do so, as i'm using Hotlink Mobile Internet 500MB plan, still able to share connection to others eg. pc, laptop, phone devices and etc.

Android nowadays has included WiFi Hotspot to share internet connection. Easy and fast rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif

As for reaching 14.4mbps, if phone specification eg. HTC IS-  now has ad equipped with 3G-HSDPA, 14.4 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps.

I c no reason y it cant connect till that speed, unless i finish up the 500MB, or at area with bad coverage???
*
Good answers there bro.
If thet's the case... Um will be good for those sharing hot spot programs as afteer exceeding 500mb the plan still goes on unlike hotlink the plan deactivates itself after the quota.
As for the question of speed... If u were to go thru the hotspt configuration the speed shud be avg 2to4mb. My fren tested for me at KL centra with his galaxy ace in KL central mcd where got lots of walls and roof packed above! Still 2.5mbps speed. The speed shouldn't be an issue if you're juz on your smart phone. 14.4mbps speeds now I'm quite sure is not available on smartphnes. Htc most also 5mb now.. Cause UM themselves said that to achieve the 14mb speedd
1. U need the. 14mb modem
2. Area another issue.as usual for advertising purposes. They show their highest achevable speed. Maybe the test was done right beside the 3g towers giving it lowest possible data loss resulting in 14.4mb

I begin to love this Thread, as the User here is very friendly and giving many constructive answers. Make me more ooommmm to reply tongue.gif
Yanhui95, can i double confirm what phone you are currently using? Coz previously, i was been Using Nokia N900 and using joikuspot to share internet connection.

I find the application itself a bit buggy. Sometimes i can share out n sometimes cant. Not sure is because of the apps itself or the phone?? hmm.gif

But after switching to HTC IS, using the same plan, same sim card i able to share internet using WiFi Hotspot and it is very stable so far.
Not sure about other model But HTC actually has 3G:

Up to 14.4 Mbps download speed
Up to 5.76 Mbps upload speed

But i'm not sure how true it is, as i seldom test connection speed, as Hotlink Data Plan coverage and speed is very satisfying.

Can refer to link below for the download speed of HTC using 3G

For Reaching 14.4mbps, i think should be more towards advertisement tongue.gif tongue.gif Read through this thread got 2mbps consider very good d. cant complaint so much d.

2mb is achievable! cause i saw it myself on my fren's android. he speed test on UM for me. 2.3 sth sth

ohhh yeah.. thanks men.. my GF want to register.. but im just asking to our friends in this forum..
actually she study at nilai.. if can got area got speed around 21mbps or 42mbps? if she use just huawei e1762 7.2mbps modem..
can she got 42mbps speed or not? or more than 7.2mbps speed? if can't? prefer me what modem should i buy and support for
wireless router? or can support this or not? because it said 3G/4G?

of course if u use 7.2mbps modem. U only can get 7.2mbps at most! But... I recommend u... Test the area first!
As for 42mb available for nilai area... Better u check first.
1-u can plug your modem and subscribe for 68plan or 40plan to test out first. If u can achieve 6mb or 7mb with your modem. Most probably tat area can get higher!
2-check on umobile website.
3-use umobile number call 1318 and ask customer services for info
4-check with outlets nearby

Best to try yourself. But 5mb is sufficient for nearly a lot of things:)
Do make sure 3g is available at nilai first

I have some questions:

We can get up to 14.4mbps until we finish up the 500MB allocation. And then the speed will get throttled to 64kbps. If we don't subscribe to unlimited free internet the rate is 5 sen/MB.

1. How fast is the speed for the 5 sen/MB pay as you use data tariff?
2. If we used up our 500MB in the unlimited package before 30 days is there a way to go for the 5 sen/MB (if the speed is 14.4mps) and not get stuck with 64kbps?

Thank you.
*
1-speed is how much u would usually get for your line. lets say 14mb is your speed. u will get 14mb for your PAYU 5 cents per mb method.
2-u shud try exceeding 500mb first... and see if they really throttle it! some like digi they do not trottle sometimes.

Anyone know what is the price (and brand/model) of the cheapest USB modem that I can use with this Umobile internet prepaid?
*
Huawei is cheap.
I sold my digi one to someone last year for rm50bucks! Go garage sales there and find:)
Mine was the 3.6mbps one... Higher end models cost more!
Look around... U might find some cheap 2nd hand ones around

Is it locked to only the original telco or can be use with other telco?

I would prefer a brand new. The cheapest one I mean. biggrin.gif
*
It would cost about rm100-200 or 250 liddat depending on model and speed of modem.
I would recommend huawei e17x. Those are cheap.
U can try look for one at... Lelong.com or mudah.com
Under lelong got ppl sell! Rm1xx or less:) search for enjoys. Enjoys is also available in lowyat garagesales area. Quite a good seller.
Usually celcom ones and digi aren't lock. And u can change the settings to search for umobile:)
Have a look arund. When I got time I try help u out. As at now... A lil busy!

Or u can get from umobile:)
Rm153 plus one month subscription! No contract!!!
Its under prepaid broadband I think.

yeah.. i think so.. your suggestion is good.. but if i use normal u mobile sim and subscribe 1 day to test the speed in my nokia x6 phone ok or not the test speed meter? because nokia x6 also support for 7.2mbps.. if got 5-7mbps that area are excelnt speed right?
*
U can do that but I can say this safely... That phone speeds wun be as accurate as using broadband as phones tend to be laggy and receiption has disturbance... Cause hp the phone line still on.
Example like streamyx... When your phone rings some lines lagg or dc!
But then... Its still a good benchmark b4 u wanna try the actual broadband.
I suggest u find a fren with android phone. My fren's phone tested 3mb-4mb afew times!

And yes if 5mb-7mb is really a good speed!
5mb equivalent to unifi speed 5mb package.
But 5mb on phone... Hahahah
Will sure be under utilized... Unless u plug to laptop and use as modem then its a different story:)

Thanks for the reply bro.

One more thing. Can I use Umobile SIM that has been set for RM28 unlimited internet on the USM Modem instead of on a mobile phone?
*
yes u can if im nt wrong... but u need to do the settings on the hp first!
but be safe... if youre gonna use broadband... use broadband package as the RM28 package has a quota!
and thetering is not allowed actually.
u can always try:P

if u wanna try... borrow someone's RM28plan or your own(if youre using it yourself)
do note... 500mb is the quota

I thought all of their package have quota.

BTW, what is the word above? I cannot understand.

Anyway, thanks for the reply.
*
Which word?
Quota is it?
Quota means the package or size of data they give u.
If u use more than that... They will either reduce your connection speed or charge u extra. For the case of umobile, they reduce speed. No extra charges

ohhh hahah thetering is...
u use your phone as a modem.
cause u see...
theres a difference between...
1-mobile internet
2-broadband
these 2 are different u know?
mobile internet is only allowed for mobile!
so if u use your mobile internet plan as a broadband
sometimes they will charge the usage as RM0.05 for 1mb

but some people say android no problem... cna make the wifi hotspot and let laptops and other phones connect to use its internet plus not counted as thetering.

its a lil confusing. even for me.
u wan u can try... make sure u have little credit juz incase they suck your credit
