You can try playing some of your favourite high resources intensive games to see if it's stable smile.gif
I'm using Vista with Orthos and no issues. Btw, you can still run compability mode in Vista.

thats a really good proc u have.
low vcore.

Which one? My E8400 needs 1.408V (actual voltage) to be stable at 4.1Ghz - running more Orthos to burn in now.
*
sorry meant kevin wcw...

so high vcore for u to reach 4.. 500x8 or 445x9.

dude seriously i have been playing around with this proc for a few days..
its always been sometimes not enough or too much nb/pll and fsb termination..

TIP:
1.Set a vcore voltage depending on ure cooling. ( u should know roughly how much it can take at load)

2.Load into windows are a reasonable voltage and mhz speed that i know definately will work.. etc 9x400
with relax mem timings mem usually 2.2-2.3v

3.Use memset and set at spd timings or epp profile if u have and overclock with setfsb

4.a)Run orthos small fft priority 10.. if pass 10 minutes keep increasing to the next 5mhz
b)if fail like close to 10 minutes.. will lower it to priority 8 then must pass 30 minutes..
then try occt 30 minutes..if OCCT fail.. must be NB/PLL voltage increase..
try again with different NB and PLL.. if pass then continue on

i usually do a increment of 5mhz and then once if it fails i do a decrement of 2.5mhz

5.Once i find the best setting then will go for long time run Orthos priority 8 blend 2 hours priority

6.Set in Bios and do a OCCt 30 minutes to double check on the blend and run memtest windows.. try to empty all ure mem amount till u left less than 50mb left.. run for around 20 minutes.. or 1000%. with no errors..
use memset to change ure main timings.

heck u can game anything with this.
oh yeah here is a kicker.. for another test on NB/PLL..
if ure download torrent using utorrent.. while running ORTHOs etc set the utorrent to cache mem around 64mb.
if ure mouse gets laggy any time u move around the screen.. means mem/nb/pll/fsb termination unstable

There's no choice to it smile.gif If it needs 1.4V stable it means 1.4V - can't discount or whatsoever.

I'm talking about a stable overclock but if I want to do Super PI like what you did, I don't need 1.4V.

Anyway, I'm still experimenting so it's too early to tell.

thats my definition of stable above.. and for me that can game.

everybody definition of stable is different.
so even say 12 hours priority 9.
memtest boot 24/7...

what i was trying to point out for u was the e8400 has 6mb cache and requires more v's on the NB and PLL
than C2d 6850 which we barely take note off especially the G0's since all the p35/x38 was made for them from scratch bios/ voltages etc.

try it and then u might believe me.
i am not saying a big drop in voltage but a bit..

this is y i changed my stance on the e8400 4.5ghz being stable..

all i can tell u is i am finding it hard to get the nb/pll stable with the rams..

whats the point if u pass 6 hours of orthos priority 8 if ure mouse is laggy when utorrent is downloading at 100kb's??

also now testing multi..
it seems i need more vcore on multi 8 compared to multi 9... this wasnt the case for the e6850/e6600/q6600 that i tested with this board..
but it depends on the NB/PLL.1000mhz sandra score at 9400-9500 is no joke

as far as i know in XS they state that the X38 chipset will be unstable at 60C above.

also i found out sometimes i force it to pass orthos with vcore.. but it will fail memtest even on lax timings with multiple errors.. ..

been spending the past few days night till afternoon testing this.
like my proc has a fsb hole at 447/480../503/

Actually the Gigabyte board manages to OC the Core Duo best. I tried with Foxconn Mars and Abit IP35-PRO but both of them doesn't do as good as the Gigabyte. No ideas why biggrin.gif

hmm edited.. gigabyte thread..

the p35dq6 was not bad in clocking only ram was an issue.. like 800cl3 was a problem..
the 680 bus can clock well.. but overvolted and burned some rams..

just to inform ppl here

here is my so far hardest stress test to pass for mem/nb
1st the hardest of all Hyper Pi 32m 16 Threads.. subtiming is important
2n is Prime 95 25.9 64bit Large FFT but set custom and run Until 96-98%of mem available sb voltage important
3rd is Linx Max Mem vtt important
4th is Memtest HCI equal threads to equal amount of mem avaiable vdimm important
5th is Memtest86+

have fun.
