my P4 531 idle at 55c load at 65c getting hot in here  sweat.gif

It is normal for prescott to run that hot, but you have to be aware of thermal throttling as well. There will be no gain from overclocking provided the processor is throttling down due to excessive heat. Attached is a monitoring software commonly used to observe throttling activity.

ES is a short form of an engineering sample for those who have no idea what it means. Basically the difference between ES and the retail is just simply the capability to play with the multipliers. Or in other words, the multiplier is not locked, so the more straightforwardly it's for you to optimize your settings. So there will not be any case where "my processor is holding me down, so I can't get the full potential of my TCCD".

ES is better in terms of more GHz doesn't exist in my book, but in terms of optimizing yes indeed. Maybe what you have heard is basically ES is better in terms of optimization of settings.

I have a Pentium 4 Prescott (P4E) 2.8Ghz. I tried using the Clockgen software to overclock but failed even by a little bit. How do i unlock my processor anyway?

Using stock HSF with Intel D865PERL mainboard. 800mhz FSB 4x256mb Kingston Rams.

Mainboard = motherboard rite? not so sure abt that.

Intel D865PERL? with this board or any Intel board in particular, obviously you will have no chance whatsoever to have fun with overclocking. This is why I never recommend Intel to the enthusiast.

btw, did anybody know how to Enable the Performance Mode for the Ram on IS7-E? i couldnt fine the setting in BIOS...

There is actually, but it's more like a tweak to the numbers. I can't remember the option function but you have to set it at 667 in order to enabled PAT. Post your BIOS screenies here and I'll try to point it out.

Dunno how to fill the form!

Intel PantaiTimun IV mPGA 478 2.8Ghz/133.3Mhz FSB/512K L2 Cache and my mobo:Asus P4V8-MX,Izzit good for overclocking?

Btw,do i need special fan for CPU and Chipset?Coolie Master 4 Lite can?

Pls help me,i dunno how to OCing, and what maximum Ghz for me?

THX!

For starters don't bother about cooling and stuffs. First you need to understand the concept of FSB and dividers. Make sure you lock the PCI/AGP bus for stability. Make sure you know CMOS reset button function/position in case of unbootable system.

Anyway check out the pinned fundamentals of overcloking thread. It consists of all information you need and more.

My P35-DS3 can easily do 450 currently without tempering with anything. I can't remember in my time overclocking was a child's play. How far can it go? I couldnt be bothered since have enough and the board is not holding me by any means. A great value buy but if you are looking to boost your egos, go and find some better boards.

genkis3 it doesnt hurt to try option2 does it? If you pass prime then you are good to go. Otherwise you can always switch back to option1.

My temp monitoring tool in BIOS and Windows reported wicked temp. I got 6 degrees and 100 respectively. So I use a hand touch the heatsink method. My previous experience with past procs is enough to tell me whether I'm safe or not.
