AS per my info 1.5 years ago.. generally prepaid for Singtel is non convertible at all.. you don't get to retain your no.
*
My info is 0.5 year ago. Oso cannot convert.
I dun think Msia can oso. Postpaid to prepaid can, not the otherway round. Correct me if im worng tho.

Actually i suspect sg differentiate the passes to differentiate the people
I also think its much easier for ep to get pr compared to the other classes. I also think right now it's almost impossible/very rare for wpass to get pr
Like to know other's thoughts?
*
I was told that too.

i will lasik at this clinic call Shinagawa lasik centre. it's near wheelock place. i join the lasik forum conducted by them and they give 200$ off for the intralase lasik...

both eye cost around 2.8-2.9k (after gst and less 200$)

you can schedule a pre-lasik assessment which is suppose need to pay 90$ but they say due to their management havent put effect on this charges then they wouldnt charge you anything after the assessment. assessment will rought take 2 hours smile.gif
*
2 hrs to assess?? Wow!!
Thanks.

Hi,

Need some 2cent.

Does it worth the trouble to save $100-150 on the rental but needed to commute 1-2 mrt station?
*
One station average about 2-3mins. So 2 station is 5mins.
Assume commute 2times x 30 days x 5mins = 300mins=5hrs. Say 7hrs a month (because weekend maybe commute more frequent)

So is your 8hrs a month worth $100 - $150?
Only u know lar.

Malaysia can - I changed my hotlink to maxis postpaid like 2 years ago, kept same number.

Sigh sucks that Singapore can't do that ... I'd need a SG line ASAP but then I don't have proper address/whatever yet ... hurm ...
*
no choice just get a prepaid temporary no.
then wen u have ur EP u get a postpaid line.
get the signtel hicard for $28 (sometime got discount, but discount mayb for top up only)
with $28 u can call overseas for $28 and local for $100.
actually for calls/sms only and if ur the budget type, prepaid is cheaper. i think sms is free. or something like send 5 sms u get 10 sms free.

For my case, yes, employer is paying me additional employer CPF. But I don't know if it's standard practice or not.

Anyway I'm here! Company put me up in Grand Park City Hall hotel for a month while I look for a more permanent place to stay. Bought my ez link and starhub green (no micro sim so I had to buy scissors in carre4 and cut myself).
*
good for u. my company dun have.
big4 or banks?
1 month stay at hotel is considered good as well.

big wrong move on the first post.
then second wrong move by trying to be smart and defending him/herslf.
looks like he/her best move would be to disapper from the thread, and come back with a fresh new identity.

for the time being, i guess im just gonna crash at my friend place for few days,
still have no idea how to look for room to rent other than flatsdb and other equal websites,
*
look for newspaper if ur here already, buy NST better. only NST, not the othe malay mail lookalike type.
Internet good for price reference, but a lot times outdated. they just repeated their posting sometimes, or most iof the times.

yay, i finally found a place to rent, its either in tanjong pagar or tampines,

im working in tanjong pagar tho, axa tower, not sure which to pick, anyone can help me with the pros and cons?

tanjong pagar = $1k
+very convenient, everything is around
+walking distance to office
+let me sleep a bit more in the morning
+owner allow friends to come along
+light cooking
+aircon
+everything is provided, tv, internet, fridge, washer, dryer, f/furnished
+private owner, no agent fee
+owner friendly, (first impressions count)
-hurt a lot on first deposit, about $2k+ iinm
-will not left much amount of saving
-sometimes need to behave or on curfew since owner got little daughter
-basically the negative side is only on money

tampines =$650
+this is cheap
+able to save more money
+can cook whatever
+wireless internet
+fridge, washer, dryer
+can enjoy shopping later on
+MRT will be near to Changi, easier flight, but im not really a frequent flyers,
-a bit far from MRT, 20 minutes walking, but accessible by bus
-a bit far from convenient store, some even open till 10pm only
-+its a flat, so friendly neighborhood, quite crowdy, acceptable
-need to pay agent fee half the rent price
-house owner not really 'that' friendly, so im gonna feel weird around a bit
those are some of the pros and cons i listed out, will be staying for 6-7months only, hopefully fellow forumers can help me to pick.

money first, or convenient the best? will be working weekdays 9am-6pm tho
*
Assume u only have those 2 choices, I would choose TP for $1,000
I think u will save approx 2hrs (on average) everyday. That's 44hrs a month (based on 22 working days only)
Do bear in mind u got waiting time for bus, and to lesser extent MRT. The MRT is very convinient, but it's not perfect. I've encountered MRT overshoot stations a few times, especially when it rains cos they can't break on time at the exact door.
So it's $350 for 44hrs, or $8 an hr. Is ur one hr worth $8? only u know.

@tailtwist, @paranoid

Thanks!,

by the way, is aircon really a need? or fan would be sufficient?
the one in tampines is non-aircon, only provide wall fan.

though i will be working most of the time, but maybe on weekend will spend time in room, so is tampines area will be hot? or acceptable like malaysia? very subjectives really,
*
Weather in TP and Tampines will be the same.
U can assume SG is 1 celcius lower than Msia

@keelim as a KL guy i've always felt singapore is a bit cooler than KL
*
yeah, i'm from KL too.
i guess Sg is nearer to the sea, hence the country is more windy.
having aircond everywer and alot of buildings are connected might also contribute to the cooler feeling.

*
i dun think there is difference between SGreans and foreigns. it's whether u use EZlink or cash. cash is standard rate.
EZlink slight cheaper. WOrth it if u use it long run, cos u nid to pay deposit.

OOohhh..I also just realise, actually I can stay at Toa Payoh...
Do you all reckon to rely on agent to look for room, or I should personally head down on my own? sweat.gif
*
My suggestion:
Do some research thru internet to gauge the pricing. I can't rmbr the website, but u can check the first page of this forum.
Then come 3 days, starting Friday morning, buy newspaper and start calling. 90% of the time the advert is thru agent. That doesn't mean u just 'rely' on one agent.
Agent or not has its pro and cons, as discuss/argued in this forum. So just go with flow, and whichever unit u fell is rite.
Btw, make sure u have enuf $ (1mth deposit + 1 month advance+ 0.5 month agent fee (if any) + few hundreds for utility).

Good for u. Better ask all the stupid question u wan now. Ur chances of asking stupid question gets lesser wen u climb higher ranking.

Better to be stupid for a day (espcially in forum where ppl dunno u), than be stupid for the rest of ur life

0.5 month agent fee is painful. normally landlord or tenant pays? few hundreds for utilities? why is it so expensive?
*
I beliv is tenant pays 0.5, landlord pay 0.5. SO agent will get 1.0

Added on June 16, 2011, 5:41 pmI was told that Msia government has change rules again.
For those driving SG cars (including Msian) will have to pay the unsubsidised petrol price in Malaysia.

HDB requirements too strict ler. Buy secondary market too expensive, buy primary market need to convert citizenship (or buy with a Singaporean). But then also the $8k combined income ceiling too easy to bust.

@precursor: get a Malaysian doctor to certify us as unsound mind ... then can withdraw before 50 XD
*
The $8k ceiling is for primary market only rite?

For secondary market u nid a married PR or a citizen above 35yrs old can buy already.
Do correct me if Im wrong.

Stay in ur rented room in JB every day and nite, except goin out to work.
Drive motorbike, or better still take bus for work.
Eat mix rice with only one meat one vege everyday, 2 times a day. Only eat in JB, not in SG. Tapau ur lunch or dinner (if u work late) from JB before work.
No tv, no aircon, no water heater, no internet, no po*rn (it still incur cost)and no entertainment. Ok, u can play with marble inside ur room.
Im sure u can save SGD9k every month!!!
A monk can do go thru that life, why not u..
