Im currently holding HSBC Visa Classic CC (my 1st CC which I've only use up to 1 year). HSBC just called me up offering me HSBC Master Gold MC, free annual fee for 1st year and free GST for 1st year, points can be transferred, shall I convert to HSBC Master CC?

Yeah, my current VISA is expiring in Sept...If I really take the Master then I would be cancelling VISA...

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Mar 8 2011, 03:31 PM)
Newer card design ? Do you mean your MBB2 AMEX has the word Platinum printed on it ?
Yes. You can but make sure you do a follow-up.
I believe they are actually offering you a second card ... If you one day decide you do not one of the cards already, you'll have to cancel it yourself.

Why not? It's FREE anyway. Unless you are worrying HSBC will con you. Can't blame you for being cautious because there are a lot of con men outside.  smile.gif

i see...i didn't notice the post abt this in the prev version tho...actually I didn't do a very detail research...didn't have such time to find out bt it so much...I only see fr app form the 1st yr annual fee is waive but there's no black and white about the GST, HSBC marketing staff firmly tell me that GST will be waived once the card is approved, I ask her why tis promo I didn't see online, she only tell me sth like this is only for new card application blabla...but since she's HSBC staff still okay, if agent then I don't really trust...

QUOTE(hye @ Mar 10 2011, 04:06 PM)
Banks will generally not publish certain promotions online coz there have been many cases where another competing bank will complain to BNM just because another bank is having this xXx promo. (Especially when it comes to free GST because it has happened before where UOB was strongly "advised" by BNM when they publicly published their promo online.) We have talked about this before in the previous version of this thread and this news has once came out online local papers and in the papers (in print).

Not to get wrong by thinking I'm a nasty person ... but really .... have you search via Google or make any effort at all since you looked for the promo online ? The answers will be there.

Just keep in mind that promos will need to come in black and white and in this case HSBC will need to send you the promo details including the cc application form. HSBC CS and HSBC marketing staff are not integrated thus if you ask the CS they won't know ... and in their first place they are supposed to support cc customers and not do sales.

The 1st yr annual waived is printed on the app form but nothing on the GST. So, I'll be checking on it when I got my card approved. If GST is not waived then I'm gonna cancel the card and complain that staff. This staff is fr HSBC KL so I don't get to meet her. Anyway, I've met an HSBC agent sumwhr end of Dec in Sarawak, telling me HSBC amanah can b used every where even at non-halal place and this policy just changed one...But I was thinking impossible so I called the CS in Sarawak for clarification and she say no such thing. Agents really not trustworthy, lie a lot just to get ppl to sign up, sigh. Anyway, thanks for reminding me bt the safety precaution!

QUOTE(hye @ Mar 10 2011, 11:49 PM)
Yup ... you are right.
If you get the call/info directly from HSBC then it should be OK. Still rouge staff may exist. Just make sure everything is in black and white. One example to this practice would be SCB. Promos are not listed but whatever they offer you, it'll likely be written on the piece of paper. Plus, HSBC cc are not known to screw their customers up ... so you should feel safer.

You could write something extra on the application form such as "Please approve my CL to be RMxxK only" etc and you could modify it accordingly. And they should get the message - this lowers (not totally eliminates) the chance of miscommunication/frauds at the point of application.

As much as I remember, HSBC does not outsource their cc application units but instead hire their own staff. But that was a few years back and it may have changed. Emm .... if you do meet an agent ... ask for their business card. That should give you a firm indication whether they are agents or bank staff. Again ... this is only a rule of the thumb ... there are banks who totally outsource their cc marketing. Example SCB via Price Solutions and RHB. (I am not sure)

Either agent or bank staff ... always practice safety when presenting your IC and you may ask for a copy of your application form. These guys will also be careful when you are careful.

So for the new rule, we must keep only two cards by the end of 2011 huh? "Cardholders can only hold credit cards from a maximum of two issuers. for cardholders earning RM36,000 per annum and less." <---is it like if i get AMEX, VISA & Master fr X Bank it's consider from 1 issuer? Sigh, i wish they demolish the GST!

this is vey confusing, Gen-X. So means MBB, i can get Amex then CIMB i can get Visa & Master. Does it work this way?

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Mar 22 2011, 09:40 AM)
No, not two card but from two issuers. For example, you can have all the CC issued by MBB and all the CC issued by CIMB and combining them you can get more than 2 cards.
