Hi,

I'm a graduate from University of Nottingham with a second upper class trying to apply for masters in University Malaya. My application was rejected because they converted my UK-based grading system (average marks) to their CGPA grading system and my "CGPA" is only 2.5. I graduated with a second upper class and somehow my marks was "downgraded" all the way from second upper to a third or pass degree. I feel it is very unfair for them to convert since both are really different grading systems.

Just want to know if there is anyone out there experiencing the same thing as me? sad.gif cry.gif cry.gif

The grading conversion is not as simple as the linear relationship, but that's the general procedure to compare apples and oranges.

However, you may get the support letter from your potential research supervisor to state his or her intent to take you as a research assistant. You may also want to pitch your skills that are required in the research such as data mining, programming, modeling, etc. icon_idea.gif

I just got a letter from nottingham's student registry telling them how they calculate my average. Hopefully some miracle will happen then rclxub.gif

So, you plan to get an External Professor (outside UM) as your main research supervisor? sweat.gif

It's final already... they even said with this " pointer " I cannot even get a scholarship nor a conversion to phD. I'm totally lost now and my dream of doing a phD is being crushed hard now.

Thought that you have elected your main supervisor and a post doc as my co-supervisor? hmm.gif

the problem is.. the faculty itself don't let me admit into the university saying my pointer is too low. I have to fulfill their criteria in order to get in which is

1. A graduate from UM itself
2. have published at least 1 ISI-cited journal
3. have scholarship to go in
4. have working experience (at least 5 years working experience)

and I need to fulfill at least TWO criteria to get in. After get in, I also cannot apply for scholarship as again, similar problem like this will come. I worked hard to get a second upper and having my parents to spend such a huge amount of money just to let me study in a good university and now UM do this to me. doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

Thus, no offer letter unless u fulfill those criteria, no scholarship and no salary. Even if I found my potential supervisor also no use, UM clearly doesn't want me to go in. If know this earlier, I would have gone to TAR and no need my parents to sell their kidney (not literally) for me to study.
