...is the cam really really good..
As a webcam, i don't think you can get a better one at this price.

As for use in astrophotography, i can't say yet because I haven't had time to do the modifications to the circuit board and mount; scared i'll void the warranty lah. Since my Casio is doing a nice job, and I don't need to bring a pc/notebookalong to do astrophotography, i think the webcam is a little bit redundant.

But for those who don't have a digicam, and don't mind doing some soldering, then the Toucam is a nice camera.

I think I am going to buy one to be used in IM...  unsure.gif
This should be more than good enough for im. It's a CCD, not a cheap CMOS....
Better grab from DAViS before stocks run out.

I am going to do observing later, what about you?
I fell asleep early last night, didn't even look at the sky. Klang Valley seems to be already hit by the haze. Today very polluted sky....bad days again. vmad.gif

So how was the Messier gazing last night in Kluang? Hope you had a productive school holidays....astronomically speaking, of course.

No piracy please. hehe. That site got BIG warning signs about copyright.... laugh.gif

The email for APGM is at the site: astrophotogroup@yahoo.com. You should be able to get direct membership info if you email them.

I'll call William Chin (APGM President) for further details if you don't get a proper response from them. wink.gif

I don't think you want to do 5 minutes exposure without any mount just to take the astrophotos, you will just get trails.  smile.gif
5 mins not quite enough for nice trails..... sweat.gif

Just a reminder, tonite is full moon! The Egg Moon! (because it's Easter Friday). laugh.gif

Also has anyone sighted fragment B of 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann? It's reported at 9th magnitude now, and may be visible through binos from just after sunset. I think I'll try to spot it this weekend if the weather permits. rclxm9.gif

Do you think trails are nice to be taken?....

Well, if one only has a wideangle lens, and a standard tripod, then shooting trails is about all you can do.......i remember doing plenty of that with my SLR long, long time ago. laugh.gif

apparently 73P will be the only one making it's close approach to Earth....
the interesting thing is that 73P has broken up into so many pieces and is still disintegrating, so the earlier ephemerides 73P (1995) will be quite inaccurate.

Check here for daily updates!

the latest data update is a must if you want to see or photograph them!

AIYAH! I thought the peak was to be on Saturday night / Sunday morning and I decide to sleep early last night so I would be fresh tonight......talk about missing the boat.... rclxub.gif

Did you see any Lyrids this morning?

.....biggrin.gif  I am going to see it later. It's rainning now, the clouds are going away!  rclxms.gif...
According to this site:
http://comets.amsmeteors.org/meteors/april_radiants.html
the Lyrids peak for us in Malaysia should be around 8.30 pm tonight. sweat.gif haven't missed the boat yet.

If we are lucky, we may see the meteors shooting up from the North-Eastern horizon! But generally speaking it is always better to wait for our part of the Earth to rotate to face the oncoming meteors so I reckon just after midnight is when I'll seriously start watching, although it will be over 3 hours after the expected peak......

Get ready with your DSLRs as Mr.LKM has pointed out (unfortunately I don't have one) - and also get ready to wish (this I have plenty) upon a falling star.... tongue.gif

Even my stargazing party was affected so much......
My private one-man party also fizzled out. It was still so cloudy at 1.00 am I gave up and went to sleep. But I wonder if I missed something because the sky was showing nice patches of clear blue this morning....... doh.gif

Well, I'll try again tonight. Might catch one or two late Lyrids.

So are we able to see some before dawn of Monday? Is Vega at the direction of South-East?
Vega will rise at about midnight in the North-East, so don't wait until dawn.

Hehe you drink too much beer at last night's party. laugh.gif

But you don't need to look at Lyra to see the Lyrids. Shooting stars can be anywhere in the sky. Just concentrate on any part of the sky which is clear.

I usually start my star party with a few cups of coffee and plenty of kacang.....then move on to some beer when I'm about to finish........ rolleyes.gif

Ya, I often pop in at your blog just to check what you've been up to. Great site, wish I knew how to do one like yours. But I'm too boring lah, I don't know what to write about.

Reply? let me think of what to say first......it must be meaningful and wise to match your site lah. Aiyoyo my mind has just gone blank again!

You know like everybody I like to criticise the authorities a lot. So I would love to do a blog like Jeff Ooi's but scared the polis will come and visit me.........nanti masuk lockup pula! sweat.gif

Never mind the Lyrids lah, you can try again next year.
As for Uranus, this planet is just a p*in in the a*s to catch. laugh.gif
