As a webcam, i don't think you can get a better one at this price.

As for use in astrophotography, i can't say yet because I haven't had time to do the modifications to the circuit board and mount; scared i'll void the warranty lah. Since my Casio is doing a nice job, and I don't need to bring a pc/notebookalong to do astrophotography, i think the webcam is a little bit redundant.

But for those who don't have a digicam, and don't mind doing some soldering, then the Toucam is a nice camera.

This should be more than good enough for im. It's a CCD, not a cheap CMOS....
Better grab from DAViS before stocks run out.

I fell asleep early last night, didn't even look at the sky. Klang Valley seems to be already hit by the haze. Today very polluted sky....bad days again.

So how was the Messier gazing last night in Kluang? Hope you had a productive school holidays....astronomically speaking, of course.

Also has anyone sighted fragment B of 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann? It's reported at 9th magnitude now, and may be visible through binos from just after sunset. I think I'll try to spot it this weekend if the weather permits.

Well, if one only has a wideangle lens, and a standard tripod, then shooting trails is about all you can do.......i remember doing plenty of that with my SLR long, long time ago.

the interesting thing is that 73P has broken up into so many pieces and is still disintegrating, so the earlier ephemerides 73P (1995) will be quite inaccurate.

AIYAH! I thought the peak was to be on Saturday night / Sunday morning and I decide to sleep early last night so I would be fresh tonight......talk about missing the boat....

the Lyrids peak for us in Malaysia should be around 8.30 pm tonight. haven't missed the boat yet.

If we are lucky, we may see the meteors shooting up from the North-Eastern horizon! But generally speaking it is always better to wait for our part of the Earth to rotate to face the oncoming meteors so I reckon just after midnight is when I'll seriously start watching, although it will be over 3 hours after the expected peak......

Get ready with your DSLRs as Mr.LKM has pointed out (unfortunately I don't have one) - and also get ready to wish (this I have plenty) upon a falling star....

My private one-man party also fizzled out. It was still so cloudy at 1.00 am I gave up and went to sleep. But I wonder if I missed something because the sky was showing nice patches of clear blue this morning.......

Vega will rise at about midnight in the North-East, so don't wait until dawn.

But you don't need to look at Lyra to see the Lyrids. Shooting stars can be anywhere in the sky. Just concentrate on any part of the sky which is clear.

I usually start my star party with a few cups of coffee and plenty of kacang.....then move on to some beer when I'm about to finish........
