Very odd... HDD is supposed to automatically format when you replace it and turn on the PS3. Try putting that hard disk into a USB case, then access it using Linux and delete any visible partitions on it. Then put it back and see if the PS3 can detect the hard disk. Dun create partitions on it and format it on the PC, let the PS3 detect and do that itself. If still cannot, take it to a video game shop or Sony Style and make them format it for you.

Dude.. you cannot use other ps3 to format your ps3 hdd. If you do that, your hdd will assign and encrypted to the other ps3...
If u reswap again, the person data will be total loss, unless he back up his data la..

Oh, i'm assuming ur ps3 had been upgrade to higher hdd.. where's your original hdd? and what hdd size u using now?

heheh.. so unlucky la u...
to recover u need the original hdd. because the firmware 3.56 require original hdd to work properly... thats why i know u change ur hdd already.. kat internet banyak post this issue.. and me sudah berlambak fix this issues using other method.. but since u're remark to me like this "hdd size ofcouse 2.5'' la u think me 1st day play ps3 ?"
u find the answer on the net la.. good luck
