Most hospital do it no? Just ask your gynae.
If I still remember correctly, it's few hundred or so and few japs. I don't wanna go for the japs cause hear some people don't really react to it well. I rather go for pap smear every year. |

BP an pathlabs usually more expensive. Ive a cousin who also asked me whether want jap or not last time. Around few hundred for few japs also. But I didn get the contact or anything cause not interested.
Pap smear is actually a test that we girls should get checked up at our usual gynae every year. Many malaysians not aware of these tests but it's very popular overseas and in some countries it's compulsory for women to do it. Just go google about it la. Japs need to go for few times over few weeks or months like that. After that nonit edi, I'm not very sure about this though. |

Cervarix is the trade name of the vaccine that you can get in M'sia. From my experience you have 3 doses, the first 2 is one month apart... and then the 3rd one is 5 months later.
I suppose you can get it cheaper if you go to a government hospital or clinic. I got mine for a discount so it's 155 per dose. You should check around for the price. Can't be too sure about that. Cervarix is for HPV type 16 and 18. I'm not sure if there are newer ones out there. I know there are stories saying that it might be dangerous and cause disease, but this is a protein subunit vaccine, so they don't actually use viruses to stimulate immune responses. In my opinion there's really nothing to be worried about. Some people may have allergies, but the probability is very low. Maybe one in thousands. But don't take it from me, always confirm with your doctor. The only downside is that your arm WILL hurt for a few days after, cos it's an intramuscular injection. Well, depends on your tolerance for pain. There is another type called Gardasil, but I'm not sure if it's marketed here. Best advice: go to a clinic/hospital and get a consultation. |

I'm a medical student and had 2 jabs done. Indeed, going to government hospital or clinic is cheaper.
My view is, if u get to pay a sum of money in preventation of cancer, why spare the money? Cervical Cancer is often too late when discovered. Sometimes treatment involves removing ur uterus or worse. it's common that ur arm will hurt after vaccination, regardless of what vaccines u're taking. And yes indeed there've been documented side effects all over the internet, warning girls not to take the vaccine, but hey, which vaccines do not have side effects? It's just whether or not it has been publicized as much. |

I am planning to get the jab. Another friend's sis of mine took it in KL and it cost her RM800 or so for 3 jabs.
First jab, 2nd jab is 1 month after and last one 6 months after the first one and there you go completed the whole vaccination. It can last you up to 5 years thats what i heard of. Anyone took at @ gov hospital yet? so we can know roughly how much we could save up. |

Cervarix cost about rm220 per jab. Total of 3 jab. Another one is gardasil which cost around rm380 per jab. Difference between the 2? Cervarix cover more on cervical cancer while gardasil cover genital warts n some cervical cancer. More info pls ask ur doctors. It's not a good idea to see medical advice from public. U might get the wrong info.

Hi TS,
I just done my 2nd jab. My family doctor informed me that there are two types available in our market, one from Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK), another one from Merck (MDSB) Gardasil. GSK is RM199 per jab while MDSB costs RM270 per jab. I took the Merck Gardasil one but I could not recall the reason why I choose that over the GSK one, could be because I think the higher costs one should be better hehe Actually, you need to take total 3 jabs, the 2nd jab must be two months after you done first jab and the 3rd and final jab must be six months after the first jab. I did not encounter any side effects after the jabs so far. But each time I went for the jab, my hand will be sore for one day at most and it is quite painful I suggest you to seek advise from your family doctor to see if you are suitable to take the jab as age plays an important factor to consider this jab. Besides age, your current health condition like whether you are pregnant or having fever might affect the result too. I have no idea on gov or local clinic, but you may call up to ask how much it costs. In any case, for medical advise we as forummers can only give our opinions. For better and accurate info, it is always best to consult your family doctor or local gov clinic. |

Heres some info which I try to read up before taking them.
http://children.webmd.com/vaccines/feature...get-hpv-vaccine http://www.webmd.com/sexual-conditions/hpv...-papillomavirus http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/hpv-vaccine So ladies are advised to take your pap smear before the jab. I just wonder if there are people who took both of the vaccin since their coverage is a lil different. Still need answer to this. |

Cervarix gives protection for type 16 & 18 strains. Pirce at RM600
Gardasil Gives protection for type 6, 11, 16 & 18. Price at RM1200. Both can be gotten from gynae clinic. But BP lab/Pathlab only had cervarix available when I last checked . Note that type 16 and 18 are 2 of 4 high-risk strains, at the end of the day you will still need to get pap smear because of the other two strains. So you pay RM600/RM1200 to reduce the chances as type 16/18 are responsible for 70% cervical cancers, but there's still 30%. Type 6 and 11 strains are responsible for 90% genital warts. These type do not cause cancer, but give ugly genital warts. Warts are harmless and can be cleared by your own immune system or medication. Some people lucky have no warts, some have but will clear, unlucky ones have big and ugly and painful ones that are chronic. However, even if you never showed symptoms or symptoms already cleared, the virus is still present, it will infect other people(Viruses cannot be cured/cleared!!!). So pay extra RM600 to reduce chances of ugly warts by 90%, but there's still 10%. I support the vaccine, but it's all a game of chances. Got money, chances reduced. Rich = less chances of dying..... NOTE: Now girls born in 1993 can get the vaccine for free too at government clinics. GO GET IT.[COLOR=red] Added on August 11, 2012, 6:06 pm QUOTE(lovelyhelp @ Aug 11 2012, 02:45 PM) Can, but because the vaccine was only tested for 13 - 26 age group, government agencies (FDA) do not recommend. Also, because above 25 everyone is assumed to be already sexually active or had many partners, the vaccine wouldn't do anything because the person is most likely already infected. I've heard some doctors don't give it though (for ages above 25)Added on August 11, 2012, 6:10 pm QUOTE(puiwen @ Apr 3 2011, 01:30 AM) I'm a medical student and had 2 jabs done. I'm a medical doctor and would like to shed some light.
Differences between Gardasil and Cervarix -Gardasil protects against HPV subtypes 6,11, 16 & 18 -Cervarix protects against subtypes 16 & 18 only -6 & 11 are responsible for WARTS (ugly!) -16 & 18 are responsible for 70% of cervical cancer cases -there are over 100 types of HPV viruses. Just that it is not cost effective to make so many vaccines to ALL these viruses when just subtypes 16 & 18 contribute 70% of cancer cases already. -Having said that, HPV vaccination protects you no doubt but that doesn't mean you can't get infected with other less common subtypes (the remaining viruses which caues 30% cervical cancer) -It is cost effective to vaccinate than to treat someone who already has cervical cancer that is why government has vaccination programs for young girls. -Currently, If you are born from 1993-1996 you qualify for it in Malaysia. How much is it? You will receive 3 injections at months 0,1 and 6. Each injection would cost (average retail price at GP clinic) RM200/injection for cervarix (3 jabs total price is rm600) RM300/injection for gardasil (3 jabs total price is rm 900) Be a smart consumer. -Google clinic in google maps in your housing area. -Enquire each clinic how much they are charging -Get the best bargain. What's the difference between pap smear and HPV vaccination? -HPV vaccination confers PRIMARY PREVENTION. Preventing you from getting infected with HPV -Pap smear is just SURVEILLANCE SECONDARY PREVENTION to see whether there are cancerous changes in your cervix e.g. Someone who never had sex before would benefit from HPV vaccination (as she is not exposed before to HPV virus/infection) e.g. Someone who is already having sex regularly and maybe already infected with HPV would benefit from surveillance to see if there are any cancerous changes in her cervix. (early detection and treatment) That doesn't mean that if you already have had sex you will NOT benefit from HPV vaccination as studies has shown that it has some benefits at reducing cancer risk as well although less compared to those virgins (not exposed sexually before). Preventing you from getting infected with HPV -Pap smear is just SURVEILLANCE SECONDARY PREVENTION to see whether there areĀ cancerous changes in your cervix e.g.
