I think youtube got vids step by step flash rom etc etc laugh.gif
Bro , got ah, the old Liquid was updated to Froyo 2.2, cos the shop show it to me. Only that Acer din announce it. thumbup.gif
*
yeah, and that's 1 out of how many models?

HTC, Samsung and SE are all giving their previous flagship devices (Desire - 2.1 -> 2.2 -> 2.3, Galaxy S - 2.1 -> 2.2 -> 2.3, Xperia X10 - 1.6 -> 2.1 -> 2.3) a 2nd upgrade...

besides, the lack of 3rd party support means that if Acer decide not to do anything abt upgrade, u re pretty much stuck forever...

Never thought I'd be posting here since I do solo research.. but this has been bugging me:

Battle Royale >>  HTC Incredible S vs. Sony Arc <<<<< ????????  rclxub.gif

IS
- no rooting yet, complicated by locked down bootloader? Pretty much 50/50 for now if and when can be rooted  rclxub.gif
- techy/geeky design due to the hunchback, and only in black so far
    - when placed face down, camera lens touches table. prefer not to have case sweat.gif
- long volume bar not much tactile feedback, easy to mispress
- still on Froyo
+ got HTC Sense, which is one of the better custom skins = HTC Locations for cached maps without needing Internet connection
+ dual LED flash
+ front camera
Price around RM1,700 (RM1,570 AP)

Arc
- no root yet, but online comments indicate Sony might actually encourage "responsible" rooting
- physical back button reported to be too close to screen, easy to mispress
- whites on the screen might be slightly yellowish compared to other phones  ohmy.gif
- plastic back is fingerprint magnet
- no music playback controls on lock screen
- no front-facing camera
+ on Gingerbread 2.3.2 w00t
+ cool arty design, available in silver, black, blue, etc  thumbup.gif
+ thinner at 8.7mm and lighter drool.gif
+ dedicated camera button, although unfortunately small and hard to press
+ slightly higher display resolution (854 x 480)
+ better battery life (1500mAh)
> claimed "back lighted Exmor R" camera sensor, but most online reviews show marginal low-light performance only?
> Bravia display is also not a big deal according to some reviews
Price around RM1,900 (RM1,700 AP)  ohmy.gif

Anyone has any of these phones??

HTC's lockdown on bootloader is not as strict as the others... Thunderbolt and Desire Z are cracked within 2 weeks...

IS will ve Gingerbread... HTC is going to update it...

Sense is the best bloatware that i ve ever used... but problem is, HTCSense.com is broken, sync with HTCSense.com uses quite a lot of data... HTC Locations? Google Maps already supports caching...

for Arc, the music playback problem is easily solved with apps...

1 minus of Arc is that it doesn't ve ambient light sensor to adjust the brightness of the monitor...

so far i don't see what's the advantage of android 2.3. 2.2 is a huge leap from 2.1 in terms of performance boost. 2.3 is less monumental.

about HTCSense.com, at least it's there and it's only time till HTC weed out the bugs. Other brands don't even have anything close to a service like that.

1) enhancements for game development, including a new concurrent garbage collector, more native APIs, faster event distribution, updated video drivers, and new sensors (gyroscope) – this is amazing for developers; expect gaming to get a lot more responsive and versatile
2) lots and lots of attention in the above bullet point has been given to the NDK – the Native Development Kit. This is simply excellent. Look in the 2.3 highlights for more details
3) NFC (Near Field Communications) support
4) UI updates for speed and simplicity
5) better, faster, more intuitive text input, selection, and copy/pasting
6) support for WebM, VP8, AAC, and AMR-wideband encodings
7) new native audio effects, such as reverb, equalization, headphones visualization, and bass boost
8) front-facing camera and SIP/VOIP support
9) improved power management
10) better control over applications
11) downloads management via a new Downloads app
12) 2.6.35 Linux kernel
13) improvements to core libraries:
- HTTP responses are gzipped by default. XML and JSON API response sizes may be reduced by 60% or more
- faster Formatter and number formatting. For example, float formatting is 2.5x faster
the main updates of Gingerbread, there's more, of course

HTCSense.com is not new... Lookout has already been around sometime which offers similar service...

well, Google Navigation supports North America, Europe and Australia at the moment... Maps Brut would unlock that in Asia...

afaik, Nexus S is the only phone with NFC now...

What mathematical theorem did you use to arrive at the differential of only "4 lines of pixels"?

There is also more than 1 upside as was listed out earlier, including dedicated camera button, slimmer and generally aesthetically better etc. The Exmor R is not actually a significant upside btw.

I'll all for reasoned discussion, but this is too much bias dude!! How about reading the list again.

Lastly his budget is RM2.5K so expensive is not really an issue in case of Arc or IS. I'm trying to decide between both myself.

well, HTC phones are known to be mod friendly (at least in the past, juz look at wat u can do with Dream/Magic, Hero and Desire), while SE is more abt selling the design...

Acer can support Flash? Price wise I think not much difference. Someone in LYP mentioned can get Acer LM for rm999, cheapest ACE also rm950.
*
Liquid Metal yes...

u can take a look at SE Xperia X10 as well... iirc rm1.1k?

what do you guys think about HTC Desire HD, HTC Desire Z and HTC incredeble S? which is better and why?

DZ is totally different since it has physical keyboard...

between DHD and IS, i would pick IS, due to the complaint abt battery life of DHD...

well, if u re not too much into ROM flashing, Motorola Milestone 2 is another option... it uses sliding keyboard instead of hinge...

ya..i also want to know..
let's make it Samsung galaxy ace vs SE Xperia x10 vs HTC wildfire vs Acer Liquid Metal vs LG Optimus One...
*
X10

Ace, Wildfire and Optimus One all using MSM7227 which dun support Flash...

both X10 and Liquid Metal are using Snapdragon, but Liquid Metal has zero 3rd party support and Acer dun seem so committed to upgrading... X10 on the other hand, has juz got it's bootloader cracked, has pretty nice support in XDA forum, and will receive Gingerbread in abt 2mths time...

QUOTE(SihamZhai @ Apr 7 2011, 10:04 PM)
Screen wise.. but I'm leaning towards Nexus S cuz I love customising my phone
*
Arc is 4.2" while Nexus S is 4"...
