When your card has been delivered to you, normally the GST will be atuomatically charged but IF you don't use the card and you request to cancel it then you wont need to pay the GST.
To be safe, contact your card issuer.

Please do not assume, it does not means the card is not activated is you didnt used the card you need to make sure the card was activated or not. Under the BNM ruling card issuer are not allow to send a preactivated card or a live card. A lot of customer get caught into this thing because they said the didnt used the card and want the GST to be waived. If it is a existing card you need to cancel the card before the annivesary date. dont used card does not mean card not activated.. need to check.

Not sure this will have much of help, bcos under the new Credit Card guidelines.

Marketing Practices
17.4 Sales and marketing representatives should be required to highlight the following at the minimum, to consumers to ensure that the consumers are provided with the relavant information before making decision:
a. Profit rates means interest
b.fee and charges
c.eligibility criteria to enjoy priviliges.
d.card holder responsibilities.

17.10 Cardholders should be given the opportunity to revoke the credit card applications even after receiving the credit cards without any charges or unreasonable inconvenience, if it is established that sales and marketing agensts had coerced the cardholders into applying and/or the cardholders were not given enough time to consider the applications.

so by using this 2 points you can argue back lah.. hope it will help you. btw they are right... need to be more careful when applying credit card.

What I mean is that when a credit card is not activated does not means you can get a GST reversal. GST guideline say that cardholder will be charge for the GST when the card was issued, it does not matter whether you activated the card or not.

However under the new Credit Card guideline, there is a chance for the cardholder to argue back under the clause 17.4 & 17.10.

i reply the above bcos you say this:

"When your card has been delivered to you, normally the GST will be automatically charged but IF you don't use the card and you request to cancel it then you wont need to pay the GST."

There is different between card issued before GST announcement and after, bcos newly issued card will get charge once card issued. However for those cards issued before GST as long as you didnt activated it or used it before the GST charge you can get a reversal.

Hope this clarified your doubt.

Hence, i said contact your card issuer.
I still don't get you as your sentences are broken.
Anyway, you know what, let's just leave it there. For those who are in doubt its safer to contact your bank.
