This lens without VR and shooting wide open will have shallow DOF, especially if you're shooting at closer distance.
You should keep your shutter speed 1/80 and above especially for moving subject.
And moving subject, shooting wide open can get OOF quite easily, you can try shooting further away like your first pic compared to those close up, you can see more obvious OOF.
If you want to focus and recompose, then it's even more tougher.

Shooting higher iso will introduce more noise will will sacrifice shaprness as well. Best if you have external flash and bounce the light, you can use low iso and fast shutter speed as well as slightly smaller aperture. With flash, it can gelp freeze motion, so you can go slighly slower shutter speed than 1/80.

okay... next time bump iso...but usable iso range for D70s is up to 400 ar?  unsure.gif
*
Well, if u underexpose with low iso, the noise will be worst than correctly expose with high iso. First, get the exposure right.

i mean angle.  unsure.gif
or shooting style.... or whatever you can see the "infomation" i used the phone to shoot and feel the 35mm suitable for me or not?  unsure.gif
basically i shoot street view quite often... i think so hmm.gif
*
You need wide angle or ultra wide angle tongue.gif
If you're talking about phone or digital cam, its usually wide angle already.

35mm is wide angle but for FX, on DX it become normal lens X 1.5X = 52.5mm

maybe need google some sample photo...actually wan to ask the 35mm 1.8f is how much or should get other more suitable lens? (of 35mm f1.4  unsure.gif  if like that estimate how much so i can plan my saving schedule in piggy bank  laugh.gif )
well tried 50mm f1.8 feel still tele for my style... i shooting rarely zoom one even i use kit lens, last time SG trip in low light really "beh tahan" with f3.5... need bigger aperture  laugh.gif

now using on DX of course...maybe future will change body i think? unsure.gif
*
see sample photo hard to estimate unless shoot same subject with different focal length. 35mm on DX is not wide, but shoot indoor normal use is OK. but if you want to shoot scenery, landscape, you need to stand further away compared to wide angle.

You got kitlens, 18mm on DX is wide angle, try it yourself, it might not be wide enough for you also
Zoom to 35mm also see how tight compared to 18mm.

haha finally got someone oppose thisĀ  laugh.gif
which means got better choice for 35 1.8? well i check price of 35 f2d and review first haha... not sure 35mm still tight for DX or not hmm.gif
(i thought aperture bigger then easier to make nicer bokeh to separate front subject and bg hmm.gif )
technical term like focus speed, colour frindging , etc i dunno la, still wan see feed back haha...
budget wise not really have limit..if over limit then save longer lor lol...see the quality and price la

like sifu Hinika said... i use shoot person infront of table only...as well as food...maybe gunpla laugh.gif

If you shoot above, 35mm on DX can fit your need.
Previous you show pictures of landscape/scenery taken with handphone, then it's different. If you try to do that with the 35mm on DX, you'll need to stand much further back and the perspective also different.

Here got detail comparison on the 35mm primes by Nikon (for your reference, you can try out yourself again):

The best is still to test and try out yourself; Nothing beats your own test.

The above test done by cameralabs is very detailed, I think it's worth to take note and verify it yourself. Plus, this site has done good reviews, they even test very detailed on the D7000, finding out it's weakness and it's not all about specs on paper. You should watch their High Quality video review on the D7000, and see if you can trust and respect the person.

If not wrong, Mansurof also reviewed and compared this. Even DPReview has done very detail test on this lens.

If you want to listen to user's feedback, there's many types of feedback actually, I've seen some pros prefer the f/1.8G, and even get it for their FX than the f/2D; But then, as I said, it's all about preference and testing out yourself.

just wondering, why buy 1.8 but dont shoot 1.8? might as well straight buy f2d?
*
He is using D3100...

Even if one have body with autofocus motor, it's still up to preference. You see D3, D3S, D3X users buy 1.8G instead of f2D? You may question why, but then it's again, personal preference.

judge from previous posts...

guess i think i will stick on 35mm f1.8 judge to price and preformance... maybe next month will get... tongue.gif
*
You can always try both, the price is not much difference.

Go to Nikon Centre at BTS, there got miniature models for you to shoot puas puas, test at sharpness, colour, etc wide open of both lens puas puas and judge for yourself which do you prefer, then only make your decision.

You going to N8 Photograhy Event right? Bring your D70 loh and maybe you get your lens liao? hehehe tongue.gif

AFAIK, Nikon Centre @ BTS don't sell products. That's the RRP (Recommended Retail Price).
Just go there test all you want... enjoy and get poison...

You can get outside for around RM760+/-

I really like the focal length of 50mm for portraits much more than 35mm, but sometimes can't predict, when walk up front the model change post and she looks at you, U gotta take the shot, if u walk back 1 step, gone..... lol  tongue.gif
*
Wait till you try longer focal length... I still feel 50mm on DX not tele enough, the feeling, going there but not there yet...

Personal preference tough.

Different people has different eyes, seriously. My friend said 85D sharp but to me soft. Same as 35mm case.
*
Maybe also depends on the lens condition? Testing same unit?

What about shooting same subject, same environment, everything same, using 1 camera, 1 person snap, and everyone comment on same picture? I think this is harder to argue already, unless the difference is very very minimal.

because it is not sharp? tongue.gif
seriously are you guys expecting rm 1k lens deliver a sharp picture at wide open? tongue.gif

even sigmalux is not too sharp in wide open.
*
Should say it's sharp, but not EXTREME, or ULTRA Sharp tongue.gif
It also depends on the focusing distance, if you're focusing close, usually it's sharper and keep ISO lowest to maximize the sharpness. That's why previously I said, to do proper comparison with shooting same subject at same distance with same camera shot by SAME person, then the image from different lens gets compared by different person; Now it depends how much difference is the sharpness...

Just like the cameralabs testing, DPReview, and other detail review which shows you the same subject taken by the same camera by the same person and same distance. If we want to truly determine the difference, then it's only fair to do very detail and extreme testing before judging. As cameralabs did, they also did FIELD test which is another important test to test how the lens perform in actual usage.

Just my cheap 2 shutter clicks.
