Microsoft Security Essential is gud. For media player use MPC-HC with CCCP or K-Lite Codec

I use Norton in my Asus convertible netbook. It does not slow down my netbook compared to other AVs.

Antivirus: get avast! free edition or Microsoft Security Essential.

Install this browser add-on too for extra security
http://www.mywot.com/en/download

For media player you can try Media Player Classic Home Cinema
http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/

or

VLC Media Player

I do not think VLC is light, but i prefer it as it is few of the players that can play .mkv files properly.

My netbook lags when playing movies using the VLC player.

TS,

your netbook got lag or not when playing movies with VLC?

what i mean is. i want smoothness when i press fast foward.

Can you tell me your netbook's processor, RAM, GC and OS?

My netbook always lag when playing .mkv movie. Even for the 500 MB ones.

for AV I used to recommend avira lol. But it seems to be too "strong" in removing virus until it mess up ur pc baldly.

As for player go for k lite, vlc is annoying everytime when u play a new media it show "building font"
