I think you're referring to the sales staff. bayan baru is considered one of the top branches in terms of their sales or operation team. if you're in operation and you come at 3pm, you're certainly a dead meat already.

Hi there.
I am hoping some Hong Leong staffs will come across this post and provide me some answers.
I am going to work for Hong Leong (at one of the branches in KL) as a Operations Executive in May 2011.
I would like to know how is the work load and the working environment.
And is it stressful?
And what are the benefits for Hong Leong staffs in terms of bonus / increment etc?
(I am confirmed for the job verbally but I have yet to see the HR to discuss about the benefits / packages etc)
Thanks!

HLBB branches is populated by some of the most ignorant staff because their top management failed to have any communication with them. All the time, the new recruit don't even get to see how GMD talk to them nor ever see her in person. In CIMB at least Nazir made an effort to talk to the staff via tele-conferencing on a weekly basis.

But when it comes to politic, HLBB from top to bottom are number one in this area. Thats why when all new exec recruit work in HLBB, they will notice some incompetent staff who are good at sucking up are promoted upwards and then those good one will leave the company.

The politic in the branches is even more "terror", especially favoritism. There was one staff in the loan center who is suppose to do loan credit processing but spend all the time hanging on the telephone chit chatting was allowed to work there because she is the boss favorite.

Some branch are so politicking that the Branch Manager does not allowed their staff to attend any HLBB annual dinner because they are afraid the staff might tell to other people about their imcompetencies. Further sometime the branch manager and the assistant manager will team up and put down certain staff in the branches because they feel threaten the staff more better than them. That is why the turnover is so high.

Every now and then all staff are forced to do cross selling. Although after the cross selling there is incentive for oversea trip, but since favortisme in the branch can come in the form of certain branch manager favoring their incompetent staff, so only that staff get to go on the oversea trip.

The bodek culture in HLBB is the most prevalent. Anyone who can bodek especially those exec to the Branch Manager. If the GMD send any new apprentice from HQ to the branches, we can see how the Assistant Manager and the Branch Manager

The only time any staff meeting the general manager(not CEO) is those marketing and sales meeting the boss during an annual function. Last time got gossip too one of the GM is a divorcee, so those leng lui marketing exec went to like tackle him, he accept because freebies attraction.

Most of the staff would be busy doing cross selling or into their smartphone that customer service is neglected.

As I know of many of the ex incompetent HLBB branch manager have switch their job to Alliance Bank, so both bank now have serupa culture. Idiot running amok in banks!

Some branches OK some branches not OK.

But mostly for the manager to survive there, they must be adept at politics inside Hong Leong Bank.

If anyone getting the marketing kind of job, sure the pressure is enormous ie regional manager saving their back so pressure the junior, then the branch manager meeting the KPI and sometime or all the time HLBB other associate company such as Unit Trust come and pressure the marketing or PFC to sell their investment linked fund for them. You see so many people pressuring, everyone just have something bad to say about HLBB.

Other than that, is the way their management is structured....in HQ all those GM is good at sucking up to the management and then playing favortisme and politics. This is very common in those company when the actual owner appoint another person to run the business as the face for them.

In those smaller or remote place such may also have a bunch of staff who are very kampung in outlook or a kind of insecure and jealous at somekind of shadow only. Some branches even ask their teller to do cross selling and also their credit analyst to do the work. But when KPI is met, only the Branch Manager enjoy the reward and also the branch manager like to show solidarity to the regional manager to show they are competent la. But in actual fact they are just so reliant on their assistant manager that they can't even perform simple task themselves, only know how to cry in the office.

I have also come across some branch where every time they dispose the computer, the assistant manager whose hubby got a computer shop would sapu all the computer although the rule stated it must be auctioned off to the staff. So you see, the assistant manager bodek the branch manager so much until computer scrap also they can get.

However, as time goes by, some of those branch manager have went to ALLIANCE BANK and CIMB BANK.So maybe Alliance and CIMB also have this kind of staff inherited from Hong Leong Bank.

I quit on 2010 as they offered VSS and i die die wanna apply it even they asking me not to leave the company.

Hong Leong is good company if you manage get close to Higher Management and slowly let them recognize you else it fail.

As a typical China Man business, hardwork can't guarantee you survive well in that bank now.

1. You must create a good relationship with your bosses.

2. Intellingent at protecting yourself being blame by others.

3. Work hard and always expect changing policy or requirement with immediate effect. There are no such things effect after 1 month even in such big organisation

4. Handle superb long and manual process.

5. Good Luck in getting everyone satisfied especially if handling with cross department. There is a very steep golden triangle.

6. No proper communication between senior management and staffs.(Newspaper will be faster) smile.gif

Annual Leave 22 days, notice period 1 month, probation 6 months. EPF 16%.

Credit card waive annual fee. Housing loan, car loan benefits with t&c. that’s all I know. The rest not too sure, cause these are information I obtained 2nd hand.

Oh ya, you get discount if you go to thistle hotel (also under HL Group or owned by Quek Leng Chan), etc, but those are the benefits most likely you won’t use.
