I suggest u guys wait for a good thumbdrive before buying one. You can use most thumbdrive, but if the speed is not up to par, it'll not improve anything.

So far i found 2:

Adata PD7 - this is high-end thumbdrive with very fast speed. Check out their website and google for info.
http://www.adata.com.tw/adata_en/product_s...uctNo=AP07200SV

Kingston Data Traveller ReadyFlash:
http://www.kingston.com/flash/dt_readyflash.asp

Reviews for these 2 drives has been quite favorable for ReadyBoost compared to other models.

Some review links:
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AData/MyFlash/3

I can't find the kingston review again...too bad.

So choose wisely.

So far, the flip thingy is quite useless imo. I never bother with it.

I ve waited for 10 mins during the transition from the loading screen to the colorful screen, but the pc's status remain mystery as whether it is working or not after I seen the colorful screen.. no HDD LED, only the DVD LED lit on once in 1-2 minutes...

btw, I havent format the C: WinXP drive yet, can it be formatted in vista setup ?

does it take so long to install?

usually first time is longer, or after you've installed new hardware and drivers.

Mine took about 3 to 5 seconds for that.

Lesson #1 - Always only use official drivers from your product manufacturer (ex: Nvidia, ATI, Creative etc), unless the drivers is not available from them.

Hello, I'm planning on getting an OEM Vista Home Premium, since the non-OEM one is freaking expensive, and will kill my budget.

Got a few questions though: OEM means you can only install on one PC, rite? Lets say I install on this PC now, then 1 year later I buy a new PC. To install to that, I need to call Microsoft or something?

Also, what added things does Ultimate have, other than extra networking/System restore?

Thanks smile.gif

This has been said many times already. Only change mobo considered as new PC. Otherwise it's fine.

But actually u can change also, they're quite lenient i think. One guy running a shop said he has done that for customers when their mobo burst. MS still allow them to activate.

then how come theres only 12MB free in physical memory??

*
This is normal under VISTA. It uses the max available memory as it's own cache and allocate accordingly.

is it thru that window vista ultimate can play XBOX360 games??
*
YES! YES!! It can even play PS3 and WII games!!

Later when Service Pack 1 is out, it'll be able to play XBOX720 and PS4 games. Really.
doh.gif

MS simply makes it easier to port games between the platforms, higher level of integration like Online games, media sharing and hardware sharing (the gamepad etc).

U can't simply put in a XBOX360 games and expect it to run on a PC natively. Why do u think MS sell XBOX360 then??? doh.gif

I just installed vista and got Aero to run with 512 ram. Getting a WEI for ram of 2.9. You'll probably just need a decent video card to run aero.
*
Yep. 512MB can run aero. Check my HTPC rig. Previously only 512MB RAM when i installed VISTA. As long as you have a DX9 card u can it.

Added on March 7, 2007, 11:36 amJust to add:

Playing games with Creative card under VISTA sucks. I've bought a pair of headphones recently, can clearly hear the difference under XP and VISTA. Without EAX and with EAX is a lot of difference when using headphone, not so much when using speakers though.

There's a "Alchemy" program which supposely allow some games to run EAX under VISTA. I've tried it, some improvement but it's still better under XP.

Dreamscene is overrated. You can actually do something similar with animated GIF as wallpaper many years ago already. But of course, you can't stream full movies then (PC not powerful enuff back then anyway).

Nothing to shout about really. After watching the same looping movie for 10 minutes, i think you'll want to turn it off, unless of course, if it's porn.... drool.gif

I'm new to Vista.Just received two laptops for my office with Windows Vista. As for question above...i've encountered same problem.I've tried both Partition Magic 7.0 & 8.0 and it appears that Partition Magic is not compatible with Vista  sweat.gif correct me if i'm wrong.

One more thing...it's kinda shock me...is it normal when i open this laptop (without pressing the power button) it will automatically log in to windows? Those laptops are Dell Inspiron 640m.
*
(1) Not suprising. Partition Magic 8 is very old software. You'll find out very soon there's gazillion more software that won't work properly with Vista. Hasta La Vista dude.

(2) This is normal VISTA behaviour to log into Windows immediately. I think u can set somewhere to have the login screen, but i didn't bother.
