flashing custom ROM will include kernel. but you also can flash other custom kernel if you like.

you and lunatique different mah, rom pro.. when wanna send back for warranty claim fast2 unroot back.

meaning before flash new rom, you didn't backup your files..? err, if you asked me, i will suggest MyBackup Root. this one

bro, how about you flash 2.2.7 r2 kernel first. before this using 2.2.7 r2 then i flashed 2.2.8 kernel but somehow i found out battery drain a bit fast. (from my opinion)

but now still using 2.2.8, just want to monitor my battery life first.
