Few weeks ago i saw a stunning thread at garage sale there, someone(my good friend actually) offer 1k for sleeve his Corsair AX1200 cable. shocking.gif
Very soon, a guy took his offer. So my friend was expected some MDPC looks (or maybe close to it) on his cable sleeving, because 1k sleeving should worth for it.
But after seeing the result my friend was extreme disapointing. shakehead.gif I think many of you guys are witness for this job, its seriously not up to standard. mad.gif

After many of sms and pm with my friend regarding this issue, this current sleeving project log was born.
So i took the job for re-sleeving all his AX1200 cable, i'm here to challenge the 1k sleeving result. tongue.gif
I might fail to do so, you guys make the judgement.

I received the cable few days ago from my client--->acther, so i start here.

This is the result of 1k sleeving.

My client was so worry about his cable, since the result was totally not convicing.
And i start to checking the wire 1 by 1, surprisingly i found this. rclxub.gif

So i do the replacement wire for him, luckily i got all the stuff on hand. icon_rolleyes.gif
Cut 2 wire into require length.

The crimp contact.

And the result.

After the wire replacement i start to take out the wire from the connector using my MDPC pin remover "Kluang edition" haha.

I'm going to cut all the heatshrink out and re-sleeve the wire, the following picture below might make you feel uncomfortable. tongue.gif

it seems spoiled the cable while attempting to remove it from the molex. anyway, TS did a very good job on repairing the cable with proper tools. laugh.gif

keep up ts on the MM sleeving style.

Im lucky enough to know nej, else have to reorder cables from corsair direct. The 24 pin came faulty after sleeving by limhongwoon which makes me piss off. He only willing to pay a 250 refund or send the cables back him to repair. I'm more than unwilling to send it back to him. Sometimes i really don understand these ppl where thy can really accept ppl's offer n cant do the job.

I would like to say thank you bro by giving me this opportunity on working out your cable and show it here.
It really means a lots to me.
It will be really a big big different by showing/sharing the result here compare to watching the sleeving myself.
I haven getting into the 24 pins, but i'll make sure that i'm going to check 100% on it. wink.gif

Agree bro, it take times and experience making your skill better and better.
Practice on sample cables was a good idea, but before this i was using my GF's pc to practice my sleeving skill lol.
When she notice what i'm doing, i end up buying pink!!! sleeve to sleeve her psu on her request.
But forget about the result.

question:

1. how do you make sure the sleeve/heat shrink length are correct?
2. if wire bend, will the sleeve bend too?

eh sleeves can stretch dude.

mdpc sleeves are really tight woven. so u can just the right stretch for bending wires

cheaper sleeves tend to over stretch which is y u get that inflated look.

if only somebody knows where they buy the sleeves from

eh obviously he did bro since he is taking out each ends and in this case even more extreme

he is using custom wires + contacts

i wonder hmm if use gold plated contacts will improve the psu efficiency..

just a thought

I'm not sure about gold contacts, will let nej give his opinion on this. But I was actually referring to the end process of his sleeving, before he slides the contacts back into the brackets, did nej shrink the tube onto the wires 1st or he shrink it after fitting back into the black brackets. Hope i didn't confuse any1 here. I've done sleeving b4 but not mdpc sleeving, too tedious for me. So, in my case, i shrink the tubes onto the wire b4 slotting it back into the brackets.

Hi everyone, i'm back with some photo here. wink.gif
I knew that i'm delaying hell lots of time to finish this.
I'm running out of sleeve to continue this project, the last order from nils take about 1 1/2 months to arrive in Malaysia.
And i'm having some issue with the local custom regarding the parcel.
I'm glad that everythings was fine now, and i'm getting back on track. flex.gif

The 24 pins was tougher than my expect, the result are fairly acceptable, so it took me more time to do the revision.
Sleeve and re-sleeve it again and again. cry.gif
Eventhough the result was not MDPC standard but i think it doesn't hurt to show here. laugh.gif

Here is the result, the following photo will showing before and after i re-sleeve the 24pins cable.

This is the result before i re-sleeve the cable.

very nice sleeving skill ah jen. must say that not everyone is able to sleeve as a pro like nej did. the real owner must be smiling wide2 now haha... was wondering whether nils has smaller size than this sleeve or not I think slimmer sleeve could be easier for the heatshrink to fit into the connector.

This is different braid from mdpcx, it's thinner but it might still see through the inner wire once u bend the wire a bit. smile.gif
Obviously, it's nice looking thought.

I did my powder coat locally (Johor).
Last time I know a factory somewhere at puchong did a good job on powder coat. nod.gif

ya, teach me and give me some hints. I facing trouble to shrink the tube nicely. End up with heatshrink that are not even and also edges of the sleeves not even  sad.gif
*
It's very hard to explain here, but 2 things very important.
1st is to do the marking for sleeve onto wire.
2nd is do the marking for heatshrink onto wire also.
And the last is to prepare lots of heatshrink, replace the heatshrink whenever necessary. wink.gif

QUOTE(clawhammer @ May 16 2011, 03:23 PM)
You need a heatgun, it helps a lot smile.gif
*
Never try heat gun before, should do the job so.
But the heatgun need times to heat up right, I'm kind of lazy to wait. tongue.gif

QUOTE(lichyetan @ May 16 2011, 04:03 PM)
i am using hair dryer. heat gun helps alot compare tp hair dryer ?
*
I personally prefer using lighter, not so sure how it compare to hair dryer or heatgun.

lighter is the best imo since it provides the most heat, but u need to be very carefull.. a lil bit exposed too long will fry the wire/sleeve or the heatshrink sweat.gif ..

btw nej how do u capture those beautiful pics.. cant seem to find good lighting/angles for it.. sweat.gif .. mesti confirm guna RM20k punya lense nih..

I'm really not so sure how to shot a good picture, the way i did was shot a lots of pictures and then choose the best few to post. tongue.gif
Be frank, i'm still learning. I'm using Canon 500D DSLR with it's original lens, quite suitable to beginner just like me.
Definitely not kind of 20k lens. sweat.gif
But i can share with you the condition when i'm taking photo.
I always took the photo indoor "actually inside my room", my room using yellow lighting. (i think white color lighting should be better)
That's why you can see most of my photos are a bit yellowish.
I'll always put the item on a white color back ground, and tripod is a MUST.

I think the proper skill on taking photo need explain by real "sifu", i'm just try and error. wink.gif

Hairdryer won't be strong enough. I've explored using lighter, candle, hair dryer and heat gun. The best is using lighter or a heat gun. However a heat gun has it's advantage because even if you over heat it, nothing burns smile.gif If you heat it up too much using a lighter, I'm sure we all know what'll happen.

Perhaps nej is using some special secret lighter. What's the brand? biggrin.gif Come, let's bulk this lighter, haha.

the heatshrink are better qualities actually, you get better results during sleeving.. the sleeve are also more compact so even when you extend your sleeve a little bit you wont see the cable inside..
