Anyone know how to copy out the APK downloaded from market?

Why don't you try the latest CM v.1.2?

Just extract the zip file and look for the apk. You can delete the rest of the files.

how CM v1.2 so far?
can anyone share the pro & cons using it...
going to update after this...^^

It's smooth, faster and more responsive. The battery lasts much longer, GPS locks almost immediately.

Since mad2sd script is removed, you can have the option to use S2E or Link2sd.

Swap partition is not necessary.

Yes, this is important or it'll messes up your data because the new version 1.2 does not have mad2sd script.

Were you using .tar or .zip file for flashing CWM? You should use .tar file. The .zip is for those who have CWM installed already.

EDIT : Don't worry, your phone didn't brick.

Solution :

1. Reflash CWM.

This is the version you should be using since you are on stock rom :

RFS version (for stock ROMs only, don't expect constant updates): v0.4-RFS tar |
Note: the 0.4 RFS version is not working fully - it cannot reformat partitions from EXT4 to RFS format. If you only use stock roms, this will not be a problem, but if you switch between custom and stock ROMs, it will cause issues. Please wait for the next release for this to be fixed.

So. I shud put in the rfs version first, then install cyanogen? After that put in normal version?
*
Yes, do in these steps :

Install/Flash :

1) CWM RFS .tar with odin.
2) CM v.1.2 (don't worry about the google apps as you'll have to re-install again) with CWM.
3) CWM v.0.5 (.zip) with CWM. Perform data wipe. Reboot.
4) CM v.1.2 follow by Google apps.
5) Reboot.
6) Download S2E or Link2SD (your preference) But I prefer S2E.
7) Reboot.
Done.

Note : FIrst time reboot may take a longer time. If after 5mins and still doesn't reboot (don't worry, this is normal), Press > Volume Up button + Off Button and hold them for about 8 - 10 secs . The phone will reboot.

Added on August 27, 2011, 1:04 amBut if you intend to use CM, you can straight away flash CWM v.0.5 .tar .

During the flashing, CWM will boot up. Do data wipe and wait for Odin to finished. Reboot.

And then install using CWM , the v1.2 and google apps. (DON"T DO DATA WIPE HERE)

Reboot.

Does that means that CM is not the reconmended rom to flash?
I see that the newer posts are about Cm1.2 so I thought it's the latest and should be the best one?

Or am I wrong?
*
CM v.1.2 is the latest and the best one to-date. I said 'Intend to use" is because some people likes stock roms and don't like to 'play' around with customizations.

If you have used CM latest version, I think you wouldn't want to go back to froyo rom again. smile.gif It's can be highly customized to your preference and it's fast and smooth... rclxms.gif

Thanks to alexysc!
Do I have to install baseband?
But now my bluetooth can't be turned on..
*
You're welcome, buddy.

Your phone already have the baseband. Check > Settings > About Phone > Baseband version. I think you should have I5503DXJP6 or JP7.
Strange, my bluetooth is working fine.

I recommend you to back up with CWM. In case anything goes wrong, you can restore everything exactly as when you backed up.

Hi I want to upgrade from CM7.1 v1.0 to v1.2, please review my steps below especially in question mark, in case there are wrong steps. thank you before.

. Remove widgets
. Move apps to sdcard (fat32 partition?) (use app app2sd for simultaneously move the apps?)
. Disable mad2sd: su -> mad2sd off
. Reboot to CWM
. Flash CWM 4.0.1.5 -> CM 7.1 v1.2 -> Gapps -> reboot
. Install simple2ext -> open -> tick all boxes
. Reboot
. Transfer back apps to phone (will be transfered to sd-ext (ext4) partition?)
*
1) No need to remove widgets.
2) Try to disable mad2sd first. If you have many apps and your phone doesn't have enough space, the system will abort the disabling.
If so, I would recommend you to move the apps one by one ( >settings > applications > manage applications >>>> select one by one.
You can use app2sd, link2sd to move, but these may mess up your apps data when you install S2E. So it's better to do a little more work now than to gamble with problems later on.
3) The rest of the steps you mentioned are right.
4) With S2E, the apps will be transferred to your ext4 partition.

Strange, I have gapps installed. But no youtube.
*
The gapps doesn't come with all the google apps as our G5 doesn't have enough memory to store all. If you want more google apps, go to this link :
http://android.modaco.com/topic/335141-add...pps-2011-08-15/

Don't install the full package. If you do, you will still able to install, but you'll get corrupted files and they will be installed partially (due to memory space).

Select Option 1b - individual apps.

You can install via 2 methods :

1) Instal using CWM as .zip file or
2) Extract the .zip file and use the .apk file and install it as usual using your phone installer. (I prefer this method).

Added on August 27, 2011, 7:42 pmFolks,

CM v.1.2 hotfix 1 is released. This is extremely fast and smooth!

Guides (Credit to Psyke83):

1) If you are using S2E, you must ensure that you have selected "Mount as ext4" in the application's preferences before upgrading.
2) Also select "Set Read buffer"
3) Don't reboot! Boot up CWM and install hotfix1
4) Now reboot.

If you are not using S2E,

1) Install S2E from Market.
2) Open S2E, click the Menu key -> Settings. Enable "Mount as ext4" (mandatory) and "Set read buffer" (optional, may improve performance). Choosing "Advanced mode" is not recommended, as it will cause extreme lag.
3) Close the app and reboot.
4) Open S2E, select the folders you wish to place on the SD card, and then close the app. (This means tick all the check boxes which can be ticked in the 1st page of S2E).
5) Changes will take effect on the next reboot.
6) Install hotfix1
7) Reboot.

Done and enjoy the experience of smoothness! rclxms.gif tongue.gif

*
Did you select "Mount as ext4" first before installing hotfix1?
You shouldn't have performed data wipe.

Solution :

1) Restore using CWM.
2) Perform the steps stated in the previous post.

does we need to install update v1.2 again with hotfix1 & gapps,
or just install the hotfix1?
(im not really clear...)

TQ ^^
*
1) Boot up CWM means 'open' CWM.
2) You use recovery when you want to use CWM to backup/restore, install roms/hotfixes, etc.
3) Not need to install v.1.2 again, but you need to select "Mount as ext4" in the S2E first, then install hotfix1 and reboot. No need data wipe. Done.

I just got the latest clarification from the dev. (Psyke) :
http://www.madteam.co/forum/development/%2...7-port/new/#new

QUOTE
Folks,

Sorry about the S2E issues in hotfix 1 - unfortunately, the pain was necessary. The S2E script is supposed to mount /sd-ext itself, but in v1.2 (no hotfix) I edited another, separate script to mount /sd-ext before S2E. The result is that S2E just used the already mounted /sd-ext partition.

The problem with this configuration was that S2E was unable to tweak the partition for performance (things like changing the ext4 journal type, and mounting with optimized parameters to reduce lag). It seems that if you already activated S2E in v1.2 but later upgraded to hotfix1, some filesystem flag will causing interference with S2E, which will preventing it from mounting.

If you really need to recover your data, give me this output and I can try to figure out the problem:
Code: [Select]

$ tune2fs -l /dev/block/mmcblk0p2

If you already have stuff backed up, then I suggest that you reboot into CWM, data-wipe, and then follow the steps in post #2 for S2E. It's easier/cleaner.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and the new behaviour in v1.2hotfix1 will not change in future.

Some of my apps uninstalled by themselves.
I couldn't download anything from the market and the phone reboot itself.

My solution was I restore back my previous v.1.2 without the hotfix.

If you want to use the hotfix1, do as what Psyke prescribed.

Sorry Folks, I too had the same problem... sad.gif

A more simple solution (If you have backed up your v.1.2 WITHOUT hotfix1) :

EDIT : Move your apps to you phone first - untick all the checkboxes in S2E and reboot to take effect.

1) Remove (uninstall) your S2E.
2) Install hotfix1
3) Reboot
4) Install S2E from market.
5) Tick all the check boxes in the 1st page of S2E.
6) In the settings of S2E, Enable "Mount as ext4" (mandatory) and "Set read buffer"
7) Reboot.
8) Done.

Are you using S2E? The problem lies with S2E mounting Ext4 partition in hotfix1.
If you're not using S2E, then I think there's no problem.

*
Yes, it's the problem with mounting in S2E.

But now I have successfully re-installed hotfix1 (been using it for more than five hours) and no problems.

The procedures I did (according to Psyke's new guides) :

1) Move all the apps to internal memory. I used Titanium to backup and then deleted all my apps as the phone internal memory is not enough.
2) Copy my FAT32 contents (personal stuffs) to a folder in my pc. (Just to make double sure).
3) Untick all the checkboxes in S2E.
4) Partition my sdcard using CWM. (This is the same as formatting and partition) - EXT4 as 12++ MB (I have forgotten the exact size, it's in CWM for you to choose the size) and Swap as 0 MB (no swap) Reboot.
4a) Copy back the FAT32 contents to sdcard (as the CWM folder with backup files, Titanium Folder , etc are all there).
5) Install v.1.2 , hotfix1 and gapps in sequence. Reboot.
6) Install S2E and Enable "Mount as ext4" (mandatory) and "Set read buffer"
7) Close it and reboot.
8) Open S2E and tick all the available checkboxes in the 1st page.
9) Reboot.
10) Download Titanium from market.
10) Restore apps from Titanium.
Done.

EDIT : DON'T USE THE ABOVE GUIDES. SEE POST NO. #2569 BELOW

It seems that there is a problem with the scripts of S2E and CWM. If you plan to install v.1.2 + hotfix1, DON'T USE S2E. Use Link2SD.
I have disabled S2E and using Link2SD now.

Added on August 29, 2011, 9:50 pmLatest update on S2E from Psyke83 :

QUOTE
Re: [Development] CyanogenMod 7.1 "Galaxy5" Port
« Reply #5116 on: Today at 09:39:38 AM »

Update on the S2E problem: I've isolated the problem to ClockworkMod. It's got a very odd bug in which it's not backing up/restoring/formatting the /sd-ext partition correctly.

S2E itself is not faulty, but it is exposing the bug for most people due to the way that S2E tweaks the partition parameters. S2E's script changes some partition attributes that requires a "fsck" (disk check) in order to apply properly. However, due to the CWM bug, fsck never completes successfully, which causes the partition to become unmountable.

This corruption was happening with mad2sd as well, but people weren't getting "locked out" of their partitions, simply because I used less aggressive filesystem tweaks (that did not require a fsck to take effect).

Again, this is not the fault of S2E itself or any of my code. The problem seems to be in the ext4 shared support code that CWM uses. I've sent the information to koush and I'm awaiting a reply. Until this is fixed, I don't recommend the use of S2E.

For anyone who's good with programming and Linux filesystems, I've documented the bug: https://gist.github.com/1178341

Yes, select the auto link. It's up to you whether to use the hotfix or not.

But if you want to install the hotfix, the simple solution is to :

1) restore back to v.1.2 (without hotfix1)
2) install hotfix1
3) download link2sd.

The auto link settings in L2SD is for newly installed apps. For previous apps which are already installed, you have to manually link them by
